Hobscheidt drives old ride to IMCA Modified checkers at Antioch’s Bill Bowers Memorial

ANTIOCH, Calif. (Oct. 2-3) – Jacob Hobscheidt was feeling a twinge of seller’s remorse Saturday night at Antioch Speedway. Behind the wheel of the 2017 GRT he’d sold to Sean Wilson two years ago, the Plattsmouth, Neb., driver led all but two laps of the inaugural Bill Bowers main event for IMCA Modifieds in racing to a career-best $5,000 payday. “I would gladly take that car back now,” said the new Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifier. “I didn’t expect to win but everything worked out pretty good for us.” Hobscheidt had started from the pole and led the first 29 times around the track. Troy Foulger, who’d swept the weekend IMCA Sunoco Stock Car features at Antioch, led the next two circuits before Hobscheidt got the front spot back and stayed there until the end of the 40-lapper. Three IMCA divisions run at Jordan Page Winter Nationals

ARDMORE, Okla. – IMCA Modifieds, Smiley’s Racing Products Southern SportMods and IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars are all on the ticket for Southern Oklahoma Speedway’s Oct. 9 and 10 Jordan Page Winter Nationals. Modifieds run for $2,500 to win and a minimum of $300 to start their 2021 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifier. Southern SportMods run for $1,500 to win and a minimum of $200 to start, Stock Cars for $1,000 to win and a minimum of $175 at the 16th annual event. Pre-entry for all three divisions is $75 until Oct. 8 or $100 after that date. An open practice is Thursday, Oct. 8. Pit passes are $15. Friday qualifying locks top in the top 12 drivers with last-chance racing and main events on Saturday. Grandstand admission is $15 for adults and $10 for kids ages 6-12 on Friday and $20 for adults and $15 for kids ages 6-12 on Saturday. Batesville’s IMCA Modified Race For Hope boasts $12,000 payday

BATESVILLE, Ark. – One of the biggest races on the IMCA Modified calendar will benefit two area non-profit organizations this season. Batesville Motor Speedway’s fourth annual Race For Hope 71 is Oct. 6-10, with $12,000 paid to win and a minimum of $1,500 to start the main event. The Saturday night main event is a qualifier for the 2021 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. Top two finishers in each heat on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday advance to qualifying features that send the top 10 finishers to the inside, middle and outside rows, respectively, of Saturday’s 30-car starting grid. Drivers who don’t advance to the nightly feature earn points in one of four (B-C-D-E) non-qualifier races. Pit gates open at 4 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday. OSBORN, Mo. – The second annual IMCA Missouri Nationals is set for Oct. 8-10 at US 36 Raceway. The event features the IMCA Modifieds, IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods. The event is also broadcast live on IMCA TV. IMCA Stock Car, SportMod aluminum 4412SA carburetor requirements

VINTON, Iowa (Oct. 1) – Holley’s first production run of new aluminum 4412SA carburetor main bodies have some issues that will affect some IMCA racers. Holley recalled and recovered all first production runs of this carburetor with the exception of one carburetor builder. Holley’s Circle Track Manager Graham Fordyce said, “There was an issue with the original castings that we released to carburetor modifiers (did not fit the sanction gages) so the tooling has been revised. The L6R3250B aluminum castings should NOT be allowed for use in competition.” Effective immediately this original release of casting number L6R3250B aluminum 4412 carburetor will not be allowed in IMCA competition. This product can be identified by the casting number behind the choke horn. Also effective immediately, any driver competing at an IMCA sanctioned event with this product will be disqualified. Tiny Lund wins different kinds of IMCA firsts for Shryock, Van Horn

HARLAN, Iowa (Sept. 25-26) – Kelly Shryock’s Saturday IMCA Modified win was his first ever at Shelby County Speedway’s Tiny Lund Memorial. Dusty Van Horn’s IMCA Sunoco Stock Car win the same night was his first-ever in the division. Shryock, already on the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot, started on the pole, then had to get the lead back from Jacob Hobscheidt before collecting the $1,528 checkers. “He’s “He’s pretty fast. Neisen aces Arlington IMCA SportMod feature

ARLINGTON, Minn. (Sept. 26) – A Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod feature that ran green to checkers ended with Chris Neisen in victory lane Saturday night at Arlington Raceway. Neisen caught Dave Siercks for the lead on lap seven and stayed in front to the finish. Matt Looft started 11th and chased neisen across the stripe. Ninth stating Clint Hatlestad was the IMCA Modified feature winner, Justin Allen paced the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car main and Matt Speckman raced up another IMCA Sunoco Stock Car victory. Cory Probst was the third and final leader in an IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock feature that saw just a single caution, on the opening lap. Jaedan Erickson topped the Mach-1 Sport Compact feature.

Blurton sweeps URSS WaKeeney Showdown

WaKEENEY, Kan. (Sept. 27) – The Mel Hambelton Ford Racing Lucas Oil POWRi United Rebel Sprint Series took to the 3/8-mile dirt track of WaKeeney Speedway for the WaKeeney Showdown finale Sunday night and it was Zach Blurton picking up the $1,000-to-win feature event. Blurton had started the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car weekend at WaKeeney with the $700 feature win on Saturday. Kyler Johnson and Todd Plemons were scheduled to set the pace for Sunday’s 30-lap feature event, but trouble ensued for Johnson during the pace lap causing him to pull off the track and Jake Martens took over the pole starting position. Lincoln Speedway PASS checkers fly again for Bard

Bard brushed aside a bad heat race starting draw and won that event, then moved from his fourth starting position to second on the opening lap and passed early leader Ken Duke Jr. following a lap four restart to take control of the feature. He held off a charging Devin Adams at the end of a race that highlighted several of the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car series “young lions.” Bard had led all 20 laps for a July 4 win at Lincoln, countering Doug Dodson’s bid for the lead.
