Abelson answers challenge with IMCA Speedweek victory at BVR

ALTA, Iowa (Aug. 4) – Round three took IMCA Speedweek to Buena Vista Raceway, where Chris Abelson, Devin Smith, Brandon Nielsen and Rusty Montagne all raced to $1,000 Lynn DeWall Memorial feature wins. While Abelson was scored first every time around the track in Wednesday’s IMCA Modified main event, upstart Kollin Hibdon nearly stole the lead away with a late slide job. Despite fuel pressure issues, Abelson answered that challenge and pulled back ahead, then eased away from his young challenger. Hibdon had made his way from eighth starting to second just seven circuits into the 20-lapper. Abelson, already eligible to qualify for the upcoming Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational was running with the back of the field when the only caution of the race came out on lap 12. LaCrosse, Richards lead the way at Outagamie Speedway

By Edward Anschutz SEYMOUR, Wis. (Aug. 3) – Benji LaCrosse and Kenny Richards were IMCA winners Tuesday night at Outagamie Speedway. Kelsy Hayes paced the opening laps of the IMCA Modified feature until Greg Gretz raced by up top on lap three. Gretz immediately came under fire from LaCrosse, who was able to slip by for the lead on five. Gretz was up for the challenge and dogged the leader until midway, when Johnny Whitman came to call, racing to second and setting the fastest laps on the track. A caution with three laps remaining bunched the field. As the green flew LaCrosse kept the competition at bay to score the feature win. Whitman had to settle for second, Brian Mullen rallied late to place third, Gretz was fourth and Wyatt Block Jr. rounded out the top five. Williamson sweeps CGS Mark Howard Memorial Weekend

By Ben Deatherage COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (July 31) – Night two of the Mark Howard Memorial Cottage Grove Speedway IMCA Modified Nationals took place on Saturday, July 31. The 52-lap, $2,600 to win feature started off with Jesse Williamson obtaining the lead on the initial start. After that, the Coburg chauffeur reigned supreme against the competition but did have to be smart on the restarts. As a result, eight total stoppages occurred, including four in the last dozen circuits. There were points in which lapped traffic was caught and Williamson was briefly challenged; he flexed his muscle against the field from those times on. Nevertheless, Williamson swept the weekend en route to his record seven Mark Howard Memorial Cottage Grove Speedway titles. Already Fast Shals All-Star Invitational qualifying eligible, Williamson has amassed an impressive five straight wins to his credit, going back to Independence Day, when he was victorious for the first time in 2021. Green goes old school at I-37

By J.M. Hallas PLEASANTON, Texas (July 31) – Saturday was I-37 Speedway’s annual Back to School Night with the track and Team Dinsmore handing out school supplies to kids in need that attended. A lucky 13 IMCA Modifieds took the green with Rick Green grabbing the point off turn two pursued by Marcus Mikulencak, Logan Dinsmore and Craig Oakes. After a series of cautions, it was Green getting a slight advantage while Mikulencak and Jared Maupin battled for second and Oakes quickly working forward getting past Cameron Starry and McSpadden for fifth. JP Dowell had a good run going taking third from Maupin before pulling off just before halfway. Oakes was able to snag third from Mikulencak while Dinsmore and McSpadden were side-by-side for fifth. Up front, Green was easing away while Oakes and Maupin battled for second. A late caution for Mikulencak stopped on the back stretch erased his lead. SPRING VALLEY, Minn. (Aug. 3) – Zane DeVilbiss had his eye on the custom trophies made for the 30th annual Harris Clash before the first green flag flew Tuesday night. After taking the final checkers of the night, DeVilbiss left Deer Creek Speedway with that hardware and a career-best $10,000 payday after leading all 30 laps of an IMCA Modified main event that played out in front of a packed grandstand. “This is the breakthrough we were looking for on this little tour,” said DeVilbiss, from Farmington, N.M. “We’ve had a good car the last few weeks and it’s awesome to be here.” “I saw all those cool trophies Chad (Wehrs) was building and said ‘Man, I’d better get out there and try to win one of those,’” he added. The IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars saw a great field of drivers take the green and the father and son team of Damon and Dallon Murty always provide strong competition for the locals when they pull into the track. David Brandies took control of the feature in the early going before the elder Murty, Damon was able to catch Brandies and take over the top spot. Following a restart, fourth row starter Dallon Murty was able to catch his father and race side by side for a few laps before taking over the lead. Mullen doubles up at Outagamie Speedway

By Edward Anschutz SEYMOUR, Wis. (July 30) – Mike Mullen took home top honors in the IMCA Modified and IMCA Sunoco Stock Car features Friday at Outagamie Speedway. Dan Roedl took command early in the Modified main as Tyler Wilson gave chase. Roedl worked the extreme high side to open up a sizable advantage over the field but a caution on nine erased that. As the green flew, Mullen slashed his way through the field, pulling even with Roedl for the lead. A dive bomb from Mullen gave him the number one spot and once there he never looked back, scoring his third feature win of the season. Wilson was second place and Roedl third. ABILENE, Texas – Josh McGaha checked another accomplishment off his IMCA Modified to-do list. Wagner wins first career Mod Lites of Arkansas feature

VAN BUREN, Ark. (July 31) – Cameron Wagner won his first career Mod Lites of Arkansas feature at Crawford County Speedway Saturday night. Starting from the fourth position, the Hot Springs hotshoe took the lead on lap four and held off challenges from eventual runner-up Bryce Vowan and third-place finisher Jeromy Wilson. Wagner maintained his composure despite cautions as he bested a 29-car field en route to his first IMCA STARS Mod Lite win. After the race, Wagner dedicated the win to his late grandfather Orville Wagner who recently passed away. Orville was a huge supporter having never missed a race that Cameron had competed in since making the transition to the IMCA STARS Mod Lites.
