11 dates on XSAN Hawkeye Dirt Tour schedule

VINTON, Iowa (Feb. 7) – The fifth annual XSAN Hawkeye Dirt Tour takes the best Modified drivers from in and around Iowa to 11 different tracks this season. IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds race for a minimum of $1,000 to win and $150 to start each night. The champion also earns a $600 share of the $3,000 point fund, a portion of which is provided by new series title sponsor XSAN. Knoxville Raceway is new to the tour schedule as the Thursday, July 17 show doubles as a series show and the Harris Clash. For the fourth straight year, the series opens at Benton County Speedway in Vinton on Tuesday, May 13. I-35 Speedway at Mason City hosts the Memorial Day program on Monday, May 26. Winter Nationals at Cocopah next for IMCA in Arizona

SOMERTON, Ariz. (Feb. 4) – IMCA action in Arizona races to Cocopah Speedway beginning this weekend, with the first two of four Winter Nationals programs. IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds race for $1,000 to win and a minimum of $100 to start features on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 7-8. The same payout is in place for the Friday, Feb. 14 event with $3,000 to win and a minimum of $300 to start at stake in the Saturday, Feb. 15 finale. Sobbing ends Thornton’s series streak in Canyon finale

PEORIA, Ariz. (Feb. 1) – Two weeks of ups and downs ended on the upside Saturday night for Jesse Sobbing. Sobbing beat Ricky Thornton Jr. to the $1,000 checkers by half a car length in the sixth and final Winter Challenge Series feature for IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds at Canyon Speedway Park. The victory was the first of the season for the Iowa traveler, runner-up in national standings and the top rookie driver in the division in 2013. PEORIA, Ariz. (Jan. 31) – Ricky Thornton Jr.’s latest Winter Challenge Series feature win at Canyon Speedway Park came with a bonus. Along with a fourth consecutive $1,000 prize, Thornton gained the top spot in point standings for the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified series Friday night. “The season started off way better that we thought it would,” he said after catching Tim Ward for the point lead. “Hopefully we can keep hitting our setup.” After returning to the sixth starting spot, Thornton was quick to shoot to second behind Chris Olexiewicz. PEORIA, Ariz. (Jan. 30) – The folks at Bank of America in his hometown of Chandler have seen a lot of Ricky Thornton Jr. lately. Thornton deposited the $1,000 proceeds from his third straight Winter Challenge Series victory after a back-and-forth IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified battle with Tim Ward Thursday night at Canyon Speedway Park. “I’ve been fortunate once to win nine in a row but never against the caliber of drivers I’m racing against now,” said Thornton, who kept the same setup that helped him to Jan. 25 and 26 victories. VINTON, Iowa – A dozen dates at three different tracks comprise the inaugural IMCA Late Model Sunday Series. Benton County Speedway in Vinton, I-35 Speedway in Mason City and Stuart Speedway each host four events. A standard purse will be paid and drivers will be eligible for point fund shares. The series is at I-35 on May 18, June 15, July 20 and Aug. 17; at Benton County on May 25, June 29, July 27 and Aug. 24; and at Stuart on June 1, June 22, Aug. 3 and Aug. 31. PEORIA, Ariz. (Jan. 25-26) – Ricky Thornton Jr. admitted that he missed on his setup for Friday’s Winter Challenge Series opener at Canyon Speedway Park.
