Glass gets first career win at 34 Raceway

By Dana Royer WEST BURLINGTON, Iowa (May 31) – Tyler Glass picked up his first career feature win in the Ryner Transportation IMCA Modified feature Saturday at 34 Raceway. A nice field of 15 cars took to the track with Collin Rothzen and Dugan Thye on the front row. Thye led the field for the first four laps of 20-lapper before Glass took over the number one spot on lap five. By mid-race Glass worked his way through lapped traffic and went on to get his first win. Todd Hanson, Bill Roberts, Jr., Levi Laymon and Dean McGee rounded out the top five. Brody Anders couldn’t contain his excitement after being taken to victory lane when his dad Bobby won the Casebine Credit Union IMCA Northern Sport Mod feature. Yeager extends streak with EQ Wild West Tour sweep at Sweetwater

ROCK SPRINGS, Wyo. (May 30-31) – He’s always been consistent, but it’s been a while since Justen Yeager put together an EQ Cylinder Heads Wild West Tour winning streak. He’s hoping the current trend continues. Yeager swept IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified series events at Sweetwater Speedway, earning $1,000 for each of his Friday, May 30 and Saturday, May 31 victories. “It’s always good to win at home,” said the three-time tour champion, who took the opening night checkers ahead of Eddie Belec and Jeremy Frenier, then topped the Saturday show ahead of Belec and Jeff Hunter. “It was nice to have those Colorado guys come up here. Three first-time IMCA winners at Davenport Speedway

By Mike McGuire DAVENPORT, Iowa (May 30) – Three IMCA drivers made their first visits to victory lane this season at Davenport Speedway on Friday. Andy Nezworski took home the hardware in the Petersen Plumbing and Heating IMCA Late Model feature. He led lap one of the 25-lap race before yielding to Todd Malmstrom. Nezworski re-took the lead on lap eight and led the rest of the way to the checkers. Justin Kay was closing on the leader but had to settle for second. Malmstrom held on for third, with Brunson Behning and Ray Guss Jr. completing the top five. Brandon Durbin captured a wild Milan Heating and Air IMCA Modified main. The 20-lap race saw the entire field diving for the bottom lane of the track, resulting in numerous cautions. Bob Dominacki led the first 15 laps. Durbin was one of the first to try a slightly higher line and found the middle to his liking. Durbin led the final five laps en route to the victory. Hayes tops Quincy Stock Car feature

By Jack Walbring QUINCY, Ill. (June 1) – Nathan Hayes took his first feature win in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car division Sunday at Quincy Raceway after a great battle with Jim Lynch and Abe Huls. Huls had to settle for second with Terry Houston in third, Brandon Savage in fourth and Jake Powers in fifth. Joey Gower grabbed the lead of the Summy Tire and Auto Center IMCA SportMod feature event on the seventh lap and held off Bobby Anders Jr. to take the feature event win. Anders settled for the second spot followed by Tony Dunker in third, Brad Holtmeyer in fourth and Tanner Klingele in fifth. Pat Dunker has been complaining of “having to kiss his sister” this season as he has had to settle for the second spot behind Austen Becerra on several occasions but it was Dunker’s night to howl as he held back Bercerra for his first feature win of the year in the Mach-1 Sport Compact division. Lincoln County victories go to Herrick, Clough, Bond, Baumgardner

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (May 31) – Bryan Herrick, Kyle Clough, Kyle Bond and Andrew Baumgardner earned trips to the winner’s circle at Lincoln County Raceway Saturday evening. Snaring the lead with seven laps remaining, Herrick never looked back in picking up the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod win. Kerry Jones led the initial two laps before relinquishing the lead to Henry Henderson, who led from lap three through lap 12. Coming from deep in the starting lineup, Terry Dressel drove into the runner-up position. Dillon Schultz rounded out the podium finishers with a third place finish. In a very competitive race, Clough took the point on the 10th circuit and held off all challengers to win the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car main event. Laney repeats Make-A-Wish win at Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (May 31) – Cody Laney has to be wishing every race night could be like Make-A-Wish Night at Bakersfield Speedway. Laney repeated as winner of the Saturday evening IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified special, this time in a feature that ran caution-free for all of its 40 laps. “It was a pretty long race,” understated Laney, who’d won for the first time in his IMCA career at the 2013 event. “I wasn’t sure if I could win it back-to-back. It’s pretty cool.” The checkers were accompanied by a $1,000 check. Laney raced his way back onto the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot after starting fifth and running side-by-side with Larry Hood before taking the lead for good on lap 16. Funeral services are Thursday for Brandon Smith

QUASQUETON, Iowa – Brandon J. Smith, 25, of Quasqueton died Saturday, May 31 at his home as a result of an accident in his shop. Services for Smith are at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 5 at Orchard Hill Reformed Church with burial at Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Richardson Funeral Service and also for one hour prior to services at the church. Richardson Funeral Service is assisting the family. Smith was born Nov. 1, 1988 in Waterloo, the son of Scott and Amy Smith. He graduated from Northern University High School in 2007 and was a truck driver with Martin Brothers Distributing. Brandon was an avid race fan who started racing go-karts at a young age and went on to race Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods at Marshalltown, Independence and Vinton. Aero Race Wheels awards go to IMCA special events drivers, state champions

ESTHERVILLE, Iowa – Special events competitors and state champions in five IMCA divisions earn awards again in 2014 courtesy of Aero Race Wheels. Jerovetz captures Luxemburg IMCA Modified checkers

(May 30) – Troy Jerovetz returned to Luxemburg Speedway victory lane in Friday’s IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified main event in just his second night back at the track. Jeremy Jacobs led the opening lap and through the first caution on lap two. Johnny Whitman used the only caution of the race to make a move for the top spot. Whitman shot up top and used the outside berm to cruise into the lead. Whitman was well on his way to victory with a half straightaway lead but Jerovetz had other ideas. Jerovetz who started 11th on the field, ran the bottom to the front. He got past Jeremy Jacobs on top and then set his sights on the leader. Jerovetz went back to the bottom and caught Whitman with four laps remaining. Jerovetz made quick work of the leader and went on to take the impressive win.
