Business as usual for Olson at Benton County Speedway

VINTON, Iowa (July 19) – Tony Olson’s dream season continued Sunday night at Benton County Speedway. In just 34 Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod starts in 2015, Olson earned his 18th feature win, his seventh on the Vinton quarter-mile. Kurt Hogan took the lead from Jake Salisbury following a lap one caution while Olson worked through the pack from a fifth row start. Racing the top side, Olson made his way into the top five after three laps and then found himself challenging Hogan for the lead a handful of laps later. Olson swept around Hogan at the line at the midway point of the 16-lapper, then survived a pair of late stoppages to drive to victory ahead of Danny Dvorak and Matt Petrzelka. Dirt Wars 2.0 is this weekend at Idaho Falls

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho – A pair of $1,000 to win features for Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds are on the schedule for Idaho Falls Raceway’s Dirt Wars 2.0 special this Friday and Saturday, July 24 and 25. Both races are qualifying events for the 2016 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. IMCA SportMods race for $500 to win each night. All applicable points, including local track, will be given in both divisions. Drivers’ meetings start at 5:30 p.m., hot laps are at 6 p.m. and racing starts at 7 p.m. Pit gates are open all day Friday and Saturday. Car and driver for the Modifieds is $50 each night. Pit passes are $25. Grandstand admission for the weekend is $15 for adults, $5 for kids ages 4-12 and free for ages three and under. Cole, McCarty top Tri-State features

By Rob Nugent POCOLA, Okla. (July 17-18) – Tate Cole and Ken McCarty were IMCA feature winners Saturday at Tri-State Speedway. Cole’s sixth Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified feature win this season at Pocola came ahead of Van Gemmill and Zane Hunter. McCarty took home his fourth IMCA SportMod trophy. Logan Ellis and Dalton Ragsdale rounded out the top three. Winner of Friday’s IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature was Dale Richardson, who became a first-time visitor to victory lane. Jay Anderson was second and third went to Ron Grover.

Tony Harris first to checkers on Fast Friday at Dixieland

(July 17) – Tony Harris has been struggling a little lately with handling in his IMCA Eagle Motorsports Sprint Car but on the third Fast Friday feature of the season he got everything right for his first win of the year. The Virginia Sprint Series victory came at Dixieland Speedway. Charlie Ware and Harris paced the field to green with Harris out first and Ware taking up the charge. The fast, short track suited Harris’ style as he stayed on the cushion while the challengers lined up to fight for the lead. Tom Humphries got by Ware but could only get on the leader’s bumper and never around. It went wrong for Humphries when he got together with a spun car. That incident ended his night and allowed Jerald Harris the next try for the lead. While cars sliced and diced behind him, Tony Harris stayed in the top spot to the checkers. Murray takes second Dodge City IMCA Modified Stampede triumph

(July 18) – David Murray Jr. showed exactly why he ranks as a four-time Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified national champion by taking his second Modified Stampede victory in three years Saturday at Dodge City Raceway Park. Starting from the front row outside, Murray gunned into the lead at the drop of the green flag and paced all 30 circuits to take the $1,200 winner’s share after sweeping through the inaugural version of the event in 2013. With 36 entries on hand, Murray ran third in his heat and then redrew the front row outside starting position for the main event. 34 celebrates 50th with Blast From the Past

By Dana Royer WEST BURLINGTON, Iowa (July 18) – It was a Blast from the Past at 34 Raceway Saturday night as the 3/8-mile high bank celebrating its 50th season of racing. Admission price was rolled back to 1966 to $1.50, memorabilia was on display courtesy of Billy Dusenberry and yes, even the vintage race cars took to the track. Tales from the past were shared throughout the evening by former racers and current Hall of Fame members were remembered. Even the trophies were a reminder of the first race at 34 Raceway, which was originally called 34 Raceway Park. Fifty years later, 34 Raceway is listed in the top 10 in continuous operating tracks in the country. Race fans also dug deep as drivers went through the stands collecting money for the Cameron, Ill., families hit but a tornado last week. Wilson wins at Dacotah

MANDAN, N.D. (July 17) – Spencer Wilson took the lead on lap four and pulled away to win the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified feature on a very busy Friday night at Dacotah Speedway. Jay Tooley led from the pole as Rusty Kollman, Tracy Domagala and Wilson raced three-wide for second. Wilson had the fastest car on track, quickly reeled in Tooley and started to check out. Lapped traffic became a problem as Jeremy Keller and Shawn Strand raced side-by-side for second. With four laps to go, Strand made contact with Dylan Barnhardt, spinning out both drivers out and collecting fifth running Mark Dahl. Strand was charged for the caution and sent to the back. After swapping the spot with Jerad Thelen, Keller finished a season-best second place. Josh Roehrich picked up his third Mach-1 Sport Compact feature win of the year.

Handschke, Long win first career features at 141

For Beau Handschke it just decided to happen on the same exact night. Handschke picked up his first career 141 Speedway heat race win and then later Saturday won the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod feature. Brandon Long won many features in his Northern SportMod career. It took just four months to earn his first career Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified win. Long outlasted defending champion Johnny Whitman and older brother Josh for the win. John Heinz earned his sixth IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature win. Part-timer Matt Brehmer returned after a six-week absence to win the Mach-1 Sport Compact main event.

Peebles notches first, Van Straten’s streak still intact

(July 18) – Jesse Peebles scored his first Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified victory of the season Saturday at Shawano Speedway, while Travis Van Straten kept his IMCA Sunoco Stock Car streak going, winning his ninth in a row. Peebles started on the pole and survived numerous restarts and challenges from John Berna on his way to victory lane. The race was shortened to 15 laps due to the time limit. Jerry Wilinski finished third. Trent Nolan led the opening lap of the Stock Car feature before being overtaken by Dan Michonski, who was soon pressured by Van Straten. With Michonski still leading on lap seven, a caution flag flew to bunch the field back up. Strickler Wins on Fast Shafts Night at Marshalltown

By Jeremy Fox MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (July 17) – Kyle Strickler became the first candidate on the ballot for the 2016 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational with his $1,000 Coors Light IMCA Modified feature win Friday at Marshalltown Speedway. California’s Ethan Dotson and North Carolina traveler Kyle Strickler led the field to the green and it was Strickler taking the early lead. Strickler did not let any cautions bother him, pulling out to a solid lead after restarts before and following midway. Strickler held off challenges from Jon Snyder before the final caution came out on lap 22 and set up a three-lap dash to finish. Snyder slid up the track and fell back while Strickler went on to take the checkered flag ahead of Ronn Lauritzen, 11th starting Tim Ward, 15th starting Josh Gilman and 13th starting Scott Simatovich.
