Wilinski wins Modified main at Seymour

(May 31) – Jerry Wilinski took the lead on lap three and held off all challengers in capturing his first local Budweiser IMCA Modified checkers of the season Sunday at Seymour Speedway. Wilinski was solidly in control the second half of the contest while Benji LaCrosse methodically picked his way to the front and was moving on Mike Wedelstadt for second when the white flag appeared. Right after the leaders took the white flag, the sole caution of the race appeared and ended the contest one lap short with Wilinski in front. Wedelstadt took the runner-up spot with LaCrosse settling for third. A solid field of 133 cars filled the pit area and ran an excellent program that was completely in the books by 9 p.m. The Coors Light IMCA Stock Cars had 34 entries that put a very competitive field of 20 on the track for their feature event. Dolan delivers IMCA Late Model win at Benton County Speedway

VINTON, Iowa (May 31) – Ryan Dolan raced the top side to victory in the IMCA Late Model Sunday Series headliner at Benton County Speedway. Todd Cooney came from the second row to assume command on lap two and was challenged by Sean Johnson for the lead while Dolan worked from a fifth row starting spot. Dolan settled into fourth place when caution slowed action just prior to the halfway point of the 25-lapper. Following the final stoppage on lap 13, Dolan went to work on the outside of both Johnson and Charlie McKenna to steal second with four laps to go. Dolan quickly reeled in Cooney as the lead pair battled side-by-side before Dolan drove away to the victory. Cooney ran second ahead of a hard-charging John Emerson. Brandies is best in Marshalltown Stock feature

By Jeremy Fox MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (May 29) – When the dust settled Friday night at Marshalltown Speedway, David Brandies was among the four drivers with IMCA feature wins. Brandies wrestled the lead away in the MIller Lite IMCA Stock Car feature from Nick Thelen. Thelen got sideways in turn three, leaving Tyler Pickett and Steve Meyer with nowhere to go. Brandies pulled away while behind him the battle for second featured Jeff Wollam, Donavon Smith, Matt Deaton, Michael Jaennette and Trent Murphy. Murphy got the best of that battle ahead of Smith. Jake Strayer paced the Coors Light IMCA Modified main. Austin Luellen scored his fifth local Toby K’s Hideaway IMCA Hobby Stock victory. Clint Luellen was the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod winner following a duel with Sam Sieben.

Appel scores SportMod win at Dodge City

After starting third, Appel slipped past early leader Austin Walker on the fourth round and then held off two-time and reigning track champion Jeff Kaup over the final half of the 20-lapper to become the third different IMCA SportMod winner in as many events this season at Dodge City. Appel’s father Mike climbed from the ninth starting position to take third. Clay Sellard stayed perfect in IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified action, surviving fuel issues for his third win in as many DCRP tries. Ware sprints to Dixieland checkers

(May 29) – Chris Ware showed he had a fast car early Friday at Dixieland Speedway, winning the Virginia Sprint Series feature at the same track his father Charlie had won at a year earlier. Carl Simmons and Ware paced the field of touring IMCA Eagle Motorsports RaceSaver Sprint Cars to green. Ware moved up to the sticky cushion and set sail, leaving Simmons to fight it out with Tony and Jerald Harris. Jerald Harris made it through and took off after Ware as the laps clicked off. Daren Bolac was worked his way up to third. With five laps to go, the front three cars were running with traffic. Ware stayed with his high line while Jerald Harris ducked low as the white flag waved. Marriott wheels way to top cash at Open Wheel Challenge

MAQUOKETA, Iowa (May 23) – A first-time visitor to Jackson County Speedway wheeled his way to the top prize in Saturday’s Open Wheel Challenge. Hunter Marriott took the lead from Richie Gustin following a lap 23 restart and led to the end of the 50-lap, $2,000 to win main event for IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds. “I’ve won a 40-lap race before but this was the first time I’d won a 50-lap race,” said Marriott, who had to work his way from 12th starting through a field filled with heavy hitters. “Lapped traffic actually helped me because I was able to get through it OK,” Gustin, Brian Irvine, Brian Mullen and Jeremiah Hurst completed the top five.
