With the cancellation, the first event of the season will be the Browynn Birdsong Childhood Cancer Awareness Night and season opener on Friday, April 24. The evening will feature fundraising for the Birdsong family along with seven divisions of racing action.
By Dave Panske SEYMOUR, Wis. – NEW DIRT moves its weekly racing programs at the Seymour Speedway back into the normal Sunday night slot beginning this week, April 19, and for the remainder of the 2015 season at the 1/3 mile banked clay oval. The weekly programs will feature five divisions, Budweiser IMCA Modifieds, Coors Light IMCA Stock Cars, O’Reilly Auto Parts IMCA SportMods, Turbo Blue Street Stocks and 4 Cylinders. Pit gates will open at 3 p.m. Sunday. This week all cars draw/redraw for opening night. Cutoff is 4:30 p.m. Racing is at 5:30 p.m. All drivers must be club members starting this week. Dues are $10 for the season. Spectator Eliminators will return this season on a bi-weekly schedule. This season will see the addition of the Thunder Trucks on the nights the spectators are off. Kids Club will be open Sunday night with activities and drawings throughout the season.
By Ben Deatherage BANKS, Ore. – Sunset Speedway Park will open the 2015 campaign in a big way as the Budweiser IMCA Modifieds invade the 1/4-mile clay oval on Saturday, April 18. With $650 going to the main event winner, the event is sure to attract some of the top-shelf talent in the Pacific Northwest. Last season, Sunset produced nine different winners in 13 events. Eventual champion Doug Lockwood scored four victories to lead the win column while Allstar Performance Oregon State Champion Craig Cassell was the only other multi-race winner with his two triumphs. In addition to the Budweiser IMCA Modifieds, there will be street stocks, pure stocks, dwarf cars and 4-Bee’s in action. Pit gates open at 2 p.m. and front gates open at 4 p.m. Racing starts at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are adults $13, seniors, military and juniors (ages 13-18) $10, youths ages 6-12-6 and five and under free. By Jeremy Fox OSKALOOSA, Iowa (April 15) – Mother Nature ruled last week, but Frostbuster winner Danny Thrasher picked up right where he left off two weeks ago at Southern Iowa Speedway. Thrasher led the distance and held off several challenges from Jamie Songer to take the Pepsi Cola IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock win Wednesday evening. Bill Bonnett got by Songer for second coming to the checkers. Jacob Murray scored the Musco Lighting IMCA Modifieds victory despite the best efforts of hard-charging Carter VanDenBerg and Jimmy Gustin. Zack Vanderbeek worked his way from seventh starting to second and finally made the pass of Damon Murty for the Budweiser IMCA Stock Car lead on lap eight. Vanderbeek held on to win despite a restart with four circuits to go. Cayden Carter got by Damon Murty on lap 15 to take second. FREEPORT, Ill. (April 15) – Out-Pace Racing Products will give new awards to special events competitors in its second year as an IMCA marketing partner. Drivers finishing in the top five at 30 Modified specials and at 15 SportMod specials receive $50 gift certificates from the Freeport, Ill., suspension component manufacturer. Out-Pace again gives $50 gift certificates to a top five finisher at each Deery Brothers Summer Series Late Model event and each Hawkeye Dirt Tour Modified event. IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds race for $1,000 to win on Friday and for $2,000 to win on Saturday. A minimum of $50 will be paid to start and both events are qualifiers for the 2015 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. BATESVILLE, Ark. – Modified drivers at a record number of tracks in IMCA’s Western Region will enjoy the title sponsorship support of Larry Shaw Race Cars for a fourth consecutive season in 2015. The Batesville, Ark., chassis builder again provides a portion of the $6,000 point fund to be paid to top 10 drivers in official standings for the region encompassing Arizona, California, western Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, northern New Mexico, Oregon, Utah and Wyoming. Drivers are required to display two Larry Shaw Racing decals on their race car to be eligible for point fund shares. The champion earns $2,500, with $1,250 for second, $625 for third, $325 for fourth and $300 for fifth. Sixth through 10th place finishers each receive $200. Sanctioned Modified events are scheduled at 50 tracks in the region this year. FRANCIS CREEK, Wis. – IMCA’s Mach-1 Sport Compact division makes its Wisconsin debut on opening night April 18 at 141 Speedway. The four cylinder class takes the place of a similar sport-4 class that had run weekly on the 1/3-mile clay oval. “At the end of the day, our decision to sanction the class came down to rules. IMCA makes them and we enforce them,” explained Dan Ratajczak, who co-owns and co-promotes Francis Creek with his brother Scott and Toby Kruse. “Being able to follow a nationwide set of rules is the biggest thing for us.” 141 also sanctions the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified, IMCA Sunoco Stock Car and Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod divisions. Features at Farley Speedway on Friday, April 17 and at Hamilton County Speedway in Webster City on Saturday, April 18 both pay $3,000 to win and a minimum of $300 to start. Pit gates open at 5:30 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 6:30 p.m. at Farley. Hot laps are at 7:30 p.m. with racing to follow.
