Wilinski repeats Shawano success

SHAWANO, Wis. (Aug. 8) – Jerry Wilinski scored his second straight Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified feature and fourth local checkers overall Saturday at Shawano Speedway.

Wilinski made his pass of Eddie Muenster for the lead stick on lap 14. Muenster gave chase for the rest of the race but couldn’t catch up. Mechanical woes forced third-running Jeremy Christians to pit on lap 17.

Engine problems in the heat race forced Travis Van Straten to scratch from the IMCA Stock Car feature, putting an end to his 11-race win streak in the process. Steven Stewart took the lead on lap one and clearly had the car to beat.

No one was able to make a serious challenge for the lead.  Behind Stewart though Mike Schmidt, Dustin Loberger, Joe White, and Kyle Frederick fought hard for position.  On lap seven Loberger raced to second behind Stewart.

Stewart continued to enjoy a comfortable margin out in front of the field as the white flag waved. Stewart looked as though he had the race won but exiting turn four on the final lap with the checkered flag in sight, his car shot right and into the front stretch wall.

Stewart rode along the wall towards the green flag but was passed by his uncle Dustin Loberger for the win.

Jordan Barkholtz led all 20 laps of the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod feature for this second win of the year, but it was not easy. Barkholtz faced early challenges from Brandon Nygaard and Jordan Bartz, and late race pressure from Lucas Lamberies.
