Corell wins thrilling Sanders Mod Tour finale at Buffalo River, Pavlicek crowned champion

By Mike Spieker GLYNDON, Minn. (Aug. 21) – The stage was set for a fantastic Sanders Mod Tour finale Sunday night at Buffalo River Race Park and it did not disappoint. John Corell topped the 25-car Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified feature field after taking the lead in the closing laps. The $2,000 checkers put the North Dakota veteran on the ballot for the 2017 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. Austin Arneson, winner of the first two Sanders Mod Tour events, started on the pole for the 35-lap feature with Ryan Mikkelson to his outside. Arneson got the jump on Mikkelson as the green flag flew and grabbed the opening lead as Mikkelson, Michael Johnson, and Hunter Marriott fought for second. Johnson had secured the second spot and was racing door to door with Arneson on lap five when the two made slight contact entering turn one. As a result, Johnson made heavy contact with an infield tire barrier and Arneson was charged with the caution. Johnson restarted as the race leader, but retired shortly after [Read More]

Trautner triumphs on record-setting night three of Sanders Mod Tour at Jamestown

By Mike Spieker JAMESTOWN, N.D. (Aug. 20) – The penultimate night of the inaugural Sanders Modified Challenge Tour brought a new record 54 Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds to Jamestown Speedway for the Saturday night special. Compared to the standard of the first two nights, Saturday’s event was a bit offbeat. After failing to transfer out of the heat race, point leader Austin Arneson made a big charge in the “B” feature but came up a half-car length short of finishing in the top four and moving on to the main event. Jamie Trautner led the 25-lap feature wire to wire to score the victory in the $2,000 to win Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying headliner. “This is outstanding. When I started racing I ran Jamestown and Norman County Raceway and I’ve never won here. I’ve been close a few times here, but I finally got one and this is the biggest one of my career,” Trautner said from victory lane. “I knew there was so many good guys behind me that if I [Read More]

By Mike Spieker WEST FARGO, N.D. (Aug. 19) – A Sanders Mod Tour and Red River Valley Speedway record 53 Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds were signed in Friday evening for night two of the tour. In a performance that mirrored his effort Thursday night at Norman County Raceway, Austin Arneson took the lead at the midpoint and cruised to the $2,000 win. John Nord and Myles Tomlinson led the 25-car field to the green flag for the 25-lap main event, with Nord leading the opening lap over Michael Greseth. On lap two, Gresesth, who already has a RRVS feature win to his credit, took the point away before opening up a comfortable lead. Meanwhile, fifth starting Arneson moved by Nord for second one lap later and set his sights on Greseth. Early on, it appeared as though Greseth was up to the task of keeping Arneson at bay, but as the feature wore on Arneson kept getting faster. With 11 to go, Arneson reeled in Greseth and they went door to door down the [Read More]
