Rogers finds perfect fit as new Sprint Series of Texas director

FORNEY, Texas – Kevin Rogers started attending Sprint Series of Texas events as a fan. When the 11th annual tour for IMCA Eagle Motorsports RaceSaver Sprint Cars opens on March 20 at Heart O’ Texas Speedway, he’ll be the new series owner and director. Rogers’ KR Promotions LLC purchased the Sprint Series of Texas from founder and industry icon Smiley Sitton last November. Twelve dates at nine different tracks in Texas and Oklahoma are on the 2015 schedule. “We’re pretty excited. I’ve been helping with the series and this opportunity is a perfect fit for what we’ve wanted to do from a promoter’s standpoint,” said Rogers, from Forney and a former Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center Southern SportMod driver. “I’m really looking forward to getting the season started.” Other series dates during IMCA’s regular point season are April 3 and Aug. 7 at Boyd Raceway; May 2 and July 11 at Abilene Speedway; May 24 at HO’T; June 6 at East Texas Speedway; June 20 at Cotton Bowl Speedway; July 25 at 281 Speedway; Aug. 22 at [Read More]

Final SST checkers of season fly for Garland

WACO, Texas (Oct. 25) – A low-budget driver raced to one of the biggest wins of his career in the Sprint Series of Texas finale. David Garland collected the Saturday checkers, his SST first, after swapping the lead with Trevor Reed three times on the final circuit at Heart O’ Texas Speedway. “Whew! What a night!” he exclaimed. “I’d started seventh and had to battle Kenny Elwood for second before I could even try to catch Trevor.” After seeing his motor expire during the Sept. 26 IMCA Eagle Motorsports RaceSaver Sprint Car series show at Mountain Creek Speedway – he and fiancée Renee traded vows in the pit area at Grand Prairie that evening – Garland ran 11th in the Oct. 4 feature at Cotton Bowl Speedway. His Wheels of America-owned Sprinter was powered the last two nights by a motor borrowed from Sebie Davis, who’d contacted Garland via Facebook after learning of his engine woes. Reed, Dustin Woods and Jerry Hammock ended second through fourth, respectively, at HO’T. Jason Howell lent a hand with [Read More]

Reed makes SST history with 281 feature win

STEPHENVILLE, Texas (Aug. 16) – Reagan Reed raced to a couple of firsts Saturday night at 281 Speedway. And she had to regain the lead from a former national champion to accomplish both feats. The 16-year-old junior-to-be at Waco’s Connally High School earned her career first IMCA Eagle Motorsports RaceSaver Sprint Car feature win at Stephenville. She became the first female driver to win a Sprint Series of Texas main event as well. “I couldn’t believe it,” admitted Reed. “I was excited for my dad and my crew and wished my brother (who was racing in Michigan) could have been there to see it.” Reed campaigned five seasons in the mini-sprints. She had just nine starts under her belt during her rookie Sprint Car season before getting the Saturday win. After starting the 20-lapper from outside the front row, she made the most of the fast lower line and pulled away from the rest of the veteran-laden pack by midway. Jason Howell made up ground when lapped traffic slowed Reed, finally catching her on the [Read More]

Hammock travels to Oklahoma for SST feature win

ARDMORE, Okla. (June 7) – The out-of-state excursions for the Sprint Series of Texas have been good to Jerry Hammock. The tour ventured to Southern Oklahoma Speedway on Saturday night and the 12th starting Hammock caught buddy Rodney Henderson coming to the checkers for the IMCA Eagle Motorsports RaceSaver Sprint Car tour win, his second of the season. “I guess we’ll just have to win all the out-of-state races,” said Hammock, also the victor when the series traveled to Ark-La-Tex Speedway in Louisiana in April. “They really did a fabulous job preparing the track for us. The weather was awful and they had to rush through to get done before the rain.” Russell Shoulders. Kenny Elwood and Gary Kelley were third through fifth, respectively, in the 20-lapper at Ardmore. The win came in Hammock’s fifth night in the Outlaw Driving School-owned J & J Chassis. “It was flawless,” he said. “I’m just lovin’ it.” Feature results – 1. Jerry Hammock; 2. Rodney Henderson; 3. Woods makes most of late race restart in SST feature at Abilene

ABILENE, Texas (May 10) – A restart with five laps left proved to be the opportunity Dustin Woods needed Saturday night at Abilene Speedway. Woods went all the way to the top of the oval after the Sprint Series of Texas main event went back to green, passed Sean Mayfield for the lead and stayed in front to the finish of the 20-lapper.
