Rogers finds perfect fit as new Sprint Series of Texas director

FORNEY, Texas – Kevin Rogers started attending Sprint Series of Texas events as a fan.

When the 11th annual tour for IMCA Eagle Motorsports RaceSaver Sprint Cars opens on March 20 at Heart O’ Texas Speedway, he’ll be the new series owner and director.

Rogers’ KR Promotions LLC purchased the Sprint Series of Texas from founder and industry icon Smiley Sitton last November. Twelve dates at nine different tracks in Texas and Oklahoma are on the 2015 schedule.

“We’re pretty excited. I’ve been helping with the series and this opportunity is a perfect fit for what we’ve wanted to do from a promoter’s standpoint,” said Rogers, from Forney and a former Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center Southern SportMod driver. “I’m really looking forward to getting the season started.”

Other series dates during IMCA’s regular point season are April 3 and Aug. 7 at Boyd Raceway; May 2 and July 11 at Abilene Speedway; May 24 at HO’T; June 6 at East Texas Speedway; June 20 at Cotton Bowl Speedway; July 25 at 281 Speedway; Aug. 22 at Southern Oklahoma Speedway; and Sept. 18 at Mountain Creek Speedway.

Special series points only will be given for the Oct. 3 finale at Timberline Speedway.

East Texas and Timberline are new to the series schedule.

“The foundation for this series has been laid so well with what Smiley and French Grimes have done over the years,” Rogers said. “Roger Hadan at Eagle Raceway and (IMCA director of track relations) Jim Stannard have helped a bunch, too.”

“The fans in the stands will see a very familiar show. We’re not going to change the series format,” he added. “We are starting a Sprint Series of Texas Kids’ Club and we’ll really focus on social media to promote our drivers and events.”

Results and point standings will be updated on the www.racesst.com website, which will also feature pictures and video.
