Dolan delivers IMCA Late Model win at Benton County Speedway

VINTON, Iowa (May 31) – Ryan Dolan raced the top side to victory in the IMCA Late Model Sunday Series headliner at Benton County Speedway. Todd Cooney came from the second row to assume command on lap two and was challenged by Sean Johnson for the lead while Dolan worked from a fifth row starting spot. Dolan settled into fourth place when caution slowed action just prior to the halfway point of the 25-lapper. Following the final stoppage on lap 13, Dolan went to work on the outside of both Johnson and Charlie McKenna to steal second with four laps to go. Dolan quickly reeled in Cooney as the lead pair battled side-by-side before Dolan drove away to the victory. Cooney ran second ahead of a hard-charging John Emerson. Brandies is best in Marshalltown Stock feature

By Jeremy Fox MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (May 29) – When the dust settled Friday night at Marshalltown Speedway, David Brandies was among the four drivers with IMCA feature wins. Brandies wrestled the lead away in the MIller Lite IMCA Stock Car feature from Nick Thelen. Thelen got sideways in turn three, leaving Tyler Pickett and Steve Meyer with nowhere to go. Brandies pulled away while behind him the battle for second featured Jeff Wollam, Donavon Smith, Matt Deaton, Michael Jaennette and Trent Murphy. Murphy got the best of that battle ahead of Smith. Jake Strayer paced the Coors Light IMCA Modified main. Austin Luellen scored his fifth local Toby K’s Hideaway IMCA Hobby Stock victory. Clint Luellen was the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod winner following a duel with Sam Sieben.

Appel scores SportMod win at Dodge City

By Lonnie Wheatley DODGE CITY, Kan. (May 30) – Hometown driver Josh Appel captured his first local checkers since the 2013 season finale Saturday at Dodge City Raceway Park. After starting third, Appel slipped past early leader Austin Walker on the fourth round and then held off two-time and reigning track champion Jeff Kaup over the final half of the 20-lapper to become the third different IMCA SportMod winner in as many events this season at Dodge City. Appel’s father Mike climbed from the ninth starting position to take third. Clay Sellard stayed perfect in IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified action, surviving fuel issues for his third win in as many DCRP tries. Making just his second Dodge City appearance, Jason Rogers battled past Marlin Hogie on the fifth round and led the rest of the way in the 15-lap IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature. Ware sprints to Dixieland checkers

(May 29) – Chris Ware showed he had a fast car early Friday at Dixieland Speedway, winning the Virginia Sprint Series feature at the same track his father Charlie had won at a year earlier. Carl Simmons and Ware paced the field of touring IMCA Eagle Motorsports RaceSaver Sprint Cars to green. Ware moved up to the sticky cushion and set sail, leaving Simmons to fight it out with Tony and Jerald Harris. Jerald Harris made it through and took off after Ware as the laps clicked off. Daren Bolac was worked his way up to third. With five laps to go, the front three cars were running with traffic. Ware stayed with his high line while Jerald Harris ducked low as the white flag waved. Marriott wheels way to top cash at Open Wheel Challenge

MAQUOKETA, Iowa (May 23) – A first-time visitor to Jackson County Speedway wheeled his way to the top prize in Saturday’s Open Wheel Challenge. Hunter Marriott took the lead from Richie Gustin following a lap 23 restart and led to the end of the 50-lap, $2,000 to win main event for IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds. “I’ve won a 40-lap race before but this was the first time I’d won a 50-lap race,” said Marriott, who had to work his way from 12th starting through a field filled with heavy hitters. “Lapped traffic actually helped me because I was able to get through it OK,” Gustin, Brian Irvine, Brian Mullen and Jeremiah Hurst completed the top five. Marriott, now a qualifier five times over for the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot, got a quick feel for the track while winning his heat. Thompson tops PASS feature at Selinsgrove

SELINSGROVE, Pa. (May 24) – Reed Thompson was the the flag-to-flag leader of the final holiday weekend Pennsylvania Sprint Series feature, Sunday at Selinsgrove Speedway. Thompson started from the pole and was chased by third starting Jordan Thomas all 20 laps of the IMCA Eagle Motorsports RaceSaver Sprint Car event. Thomas raced in Thompson’s shadow every time around the track but never got the opportunity to make a pass for the lead. Reeser wins again in PASS at Port Royal

PORT ROYAL, Pa. (May 23) – Tyler Reeser led the distance in Saturday’s 25-lap Pennsylvania Sprint Series main event at Port Royal Speedway. Erin Statler gave up the second spot to Jeff Miller on the fourth lap, but got the position back and mounted a challenge for the lead after a lap 11 restart. However, Reeser stretched it out to the checkers and Statler was forced to settle for second. Nathan Gramley, Scott Ellerman and Zach Newlin rounded out the top five. Coopman wins third straight at Kossuth County

By Greg Grabianowski ALGONA, Iowa (May 28) – Three starts have now ended in as many feature wins at Kossuth County Speedway for Nate Coopman. Coopman started on the inside of the third row Thursday at Algona before cruising to the Mach-1 Sport Compact victory with Jay DeVries taking second and Kaytee DeVries third. Nick Meyer grabbed his seventh Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod feature win of the season at area tracks. One of the hottest drivers around, Meyer came from inside the third row to overtake front row starters Ryan Hiscocks and Jake Simpson. Simpson was runner-up and Hiscocks finished third. Mike Jergens grabbed the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified win. Rob Hughes held on for second and Kelly Shryock took third. Brad Sites is best in Empire State Series at Skyline

CORTLAND, N.Y. (May 24) – Brad Sites put himself in good position to capitalize on Matt Cole’s bad luck in Sunday’s IMCA Empire State Series main event at Skyline Raceway. Sites worked his way from 10th starting in the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified feature to second, trailing only Matt Cole when the leader coasted to a stop on the 22nd of 30 laps. After taking over the point for the restart, Sites led to the finish for his career third series win and first-ever Skyline victory. “I knew I had some work to do after starting 10th and was really able to start picking off cars about midway,” he said. “I’d finished second and third at Skyline before and it’s good to finally get a win there.” He held off a late-race challenge from eventual runner-up Jason Benjamin. Wood wins a thriller at Southern Iowa Speedway

By Jeremy Fox OSKALOOSA, Iowa (May 27) – Nathan Wood was the winner in a Wednesday night thriller for Budweiser IMCA Stock Cars at Southern Iowa Speedway. Derrick Agee and Jerry Pilcher enjoyed early turns up front before Daniel Hilsabeck settled into the spot. Cayden Carter and then Damon Murty charged ahead, only to see Wood and Hilsabeck drive by on the white flag lap. Wood edged Hilsabeck at the line to take his first win of the season at Osky. Tyler Groenendyk was the Musco Lighting IMCA Modified winner while ninth starting Curtis VanDerWal notched his fourth local KBOE Radio IMCA Northern SportMod victory of the season. Dustin Griffiths was first across the stripe in the Pepsi Cola IMCA Hobby Stock main and Michael Grossman paced the Mach-1 Sport Compacts.
