Parker now carrying the keys to Merced Speedway

MERCED, Calif. – Ed Parker now carries the keys to the track he’s already been going to forever. The long-time fan and former driver and owner is the new promoter of Merced Speedway. Both Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds and Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods will run Saturdays at the 1/3-mile clay oval beginning April 2. “I want to get my feet wet, get some races in and make this a great place for the racers,” said Parker, who took charge at Merced in February. “Right now, everything is baby steps. We are focused on getting our weekly program up and running.” Doug Williams has been hired as race director and Tim Ragsdale, who used to drive for Parker, will do the track prep. “We have a lot of experienced drivers in our Modified division and hope to pull some big-name drivers from California here,” said Parker, also expecting an influx of local racers who haven’t competed regularly in the past three or four seasons. ‘Old-school IMCA guy’ named Michigan state tech inspector

ORLEANS, Mich. – A self-described “old-school IMCA guy” is IMCA’s new state tech inspector for Michigan. Terry Williams will alternate Fridays working with tech inspection crews at Tri-City Motor Speedway and newly re-sanctioned I-96 Speedway. He’ll be on the job Saturdays at Crystal Motor Speedway, where he’s teched since 2004. “This is my 25th year associated with IMCA and I’ve loved every minute of it,” said Williams, who raced at both I-96 and Crystal during his own career. “I raced an IMCA Modified for seven years until 1998 and began working the next year at I-96.” “(Promoter) Ron Flinn at Crystal asked me to fill in and finish out the season for him in 2004 and I’ve been there ever since,” he continued. “Ron and I hit it off and I stayed. No question about it, latest Cardinal track title puts Flowers in fast IMCA company

HOBBS, N.M. – Neal Flowers isn’t just good at the game of Cardinal Speedway track championship trivia. He’s the answer to a lot of the questions. Flowers won his career 10th Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified track title at the Eunice, N.M., speedplant in 2015. He’s the latest in just a handful of IMCA drivers to earn double-digit crowns, in one or multiple divisions, at the same track. “I’m sure winning the first one was tough but winning the last one was harder,” said Flowers, from Hobbs and a month removed from his 48th birthday. “Winning track championships gets tougher every year but it’s more satisfying knowing you can still do it. Heartland Park Topeka releases 2016 schedule

TOPEKA, Kan. – It was just a few weeks ago that Heartland Park Topeka officials named John and Larry Lowrey as co-promoters of the dirt track. This week the announcements keep coming for 2016. “We are very excited about getting back to racing at Heartland Park Topeka on the dirt track,” said Larry Lowrey, “Bringing IMCA into the mix is really going to jazz things up another notch.” The core of the 2016 season will revolve around the weekly race program. Dubuque fair date added to IMCA Hawkeye Dirt Tour schedule

DUBUQUE, Iowa – A 10th date has been added to the Hawkeye Dirt Tour, on Tuesday, July 26, opening night of the Dubuque County Fair. Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds will race for a minimum of $1,000 to win and a minimum of $150 to start when they make their first tour visit to Dubuque Speedway for the midweek show. In addition to special series points, IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, North Central Region and Allstar Performance State points will be awarded. The feature is a qualifying race for the 2017 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. Pit gates open at 4 p.m., hot laps are at 6:30 p.m. and racing starts at 7 p.m. Fair admission is $10, which covers admission to the grandstand while kids 11 and under are free when accompanying a paid adult. Modifieds race March 3, 4 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The half-mile Dirt Track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway hosts a pair of $750 to win events for Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds on Thursday and Friday, March 3-4. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, Larry Shaw Racing Western Region and Allstar Performance State points will be awarded both nights. Features pay a minimum of $75 to start with $50 paid to non-qualifiers. There is a $20 entry fee each night. RACEceivers and transponders are required. World of Outlaws Sprint Cars are on both programs. West Coast Late Models run on Thursday and 360 Sprint Cars on Friday. New season at Kennedale opens with Spring Kick-Off

KENNEDALE, Texas – IMCA EMI RaceSaver Sprint Cars get top billing at Kennedale Speedway Park’s season-opening Spring Kick-Off Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 27-28. There’s a first-place check of $1,000 with a minimum of $150 paid to start in the winged division on opening night. Running both nights are Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds for $500 to win and $75 to start and IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center Southern SportMods for $500 to win and $60 to start. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, Modified and Stock Car regional, and Allstar Performance State points will be awarded. There is no entry fee. Pit passes are $30. Luxemburg inducts three into hall of fame in June

LUXEMBURG, Wis. – A trio of former drivers representing stock car racing from the 1970’s through the 1990’s will be inducted into Luxemburg Speedway’s Hall of Fame on June 3, during “Life In The Past Lane” night at the races at the 1/3-mile clay oval. Luxemburg’s own Roy Ihlenfeld and Jerry Jonet, along with Kewaunee’s John Gregorich will be inducted into the speedway’s class of 2016 Hall of Fame during a ceremony at intermission. A number of former track champions from yesteryear will be on hand, along with several restored, vintage racecars. New promotional era begins at Skyline Raceway Park

CORTLAND, N.Y. – One era has ended and another begun at Skyline Raceway Park. Former track champion Dean Catlin and his wife Donna have purchased the facility from Frank and Audrey Payne, who had operated the 3/8-mile clay oval for 28 years. Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds return to Saturday night programs beginning April 23. The IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing point season at Cortland runs through Turbo Blue championship night on Sept. 17. The former Skyline Raceway has been IMCA sanctioned longer than any other track in New York and will crown a Modified champion for the 20th consecutive season in 2016. “This division is a lot different than most of the other cars around here,” Catlin noted. “They run on those narrow Hoosier tires and there’s a lot of talent needed to hook them up.
