Bubak is best in URSS Bob Salem Memorial finale

(Aug. 20) – Colorado’s Jake Bubak took the lead with two laps remaining to claim the United Rebel Sprint Series checkers on the final night of the annual Bob Salem Memorial Sun­day at Oberlin Speedway. Bubak passed Zach Blurton for the runner-up position with five laps to go then caught the rear bumper of leader Taylor Velasquez with three laps remaining. One lap later, Bubak completed a slide job in turn one and led the last two times around the track to capture a $1,022 payday and his second URSS victory of the season. Velasquez settled for second while Nick Haygood came home third. Jed Werner came home fourth and earned $1,500 bonus for being the two-day point champion. Chapman rules URSS thriller on night one of Bob Salem Memorial

(Aug. 19) – Toby Chapman proved patience is a virtue as he passed race-long leader Jed Werner on the final circuit to claim the thrilling United Rebel Sprint Series feature on Saturday in front of a packed house at Oberlin Speedway on night one of the Bob Salem Memorial. It looked to be Werner’s night but Chapman had other ideas as the Nebraska veteran passed Tracey Hill for the runner-up position with three laps remaining and set his sights on the leader. On the last lap Chapman put a slide job on Werner in turn one with Werner crossing under and they went side-by-side down the backstretch. SPRING CREEK, Nev. – Their second racing vacation of the season will take the Taylor family of Spring Creek, Nev., to the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s. IMCA Modified driver Wade Taylor will race at Boone Speedway for the first time. IMCA Weekly Late Model point season ends Aug. 27 

VINTON, Iowa – Final Late Model track points races for the 2017 IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing point season will be Sunday, Aug. 27. National and state points for the division will be given through the final Deery Brothers Summer Series event, now scheduled on Sept. 23. Track championship bonus points will be figured and the national champi­on and rook­ie of the year announced as soon as possi­ble after that date.

Wilson wires Sprint Series of Oklahoma foes at Ardmore

(Aug. 18) – Chad Wilson quickly took the lead from his fourth starting position and never looked back to capture his second career Sprint Series of Oklahoma IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car feature Friday at Southern Oklahoma Speedway. Tucker Doughty and defending tour champion Andy Shouse started on the front row for the 20-lap feature with Wilson the one taking the lead as the green flag fell. Several cautions dotted the feature yet Wilson would hold on to become the seventh different winner of the 2017 season. Tenth starting Michael Day, who won earlier at SOS, came home second while Doughty held on for third. Gary Owens, who had to run and won the 12-lap “B” feature, started 17th and came home fourth while Blake Dacus, who finished second in the “B” feature, rounded out the top five. Hinrichs tops Marshalltown main, Mitchell rules plush Super Dash 

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (Aug. 18) – It was another action packed night of racing on Friday at the Mar­shalltown Speedway and the 115 cars on hand provided the crowd with great close racing all evening long. Kyle Hinrichs captured his first IMCA Late Model victory while Justin Mitchell went home $3,000 richer in the Super Dash. Hinrichs led the 20-lap main event from start to finish.  Richie Gustin ran out of time to garner more than a second place finish, Todd Cooney was third, fourth went to Mitchell and Darrel De­France was fifth. Repeat winners abound at Davenport 

By Mike McGuire DAVENPORT, Iowa (Aug. 18) – Just one week before the 2017 Season Championships, the rac­ing action was intense at the Davenport Speedway Friday night. Matt Ryan drew the pole for the Petersen Plumbing & Heating IMCA Late Model feature and drove out to a sizeable lead. However in lapped traffic, Spencer Diercks was able to run down the leader. Diercks drove around Ryan on the high side on lap 22. In the final corner, Ryan pulled a massive slide job to retake the lead. Diercks tried to cross over but could not complete the move soon enough. The win was Ryan’s fifth of the season and third straight. Second went to Diercks, ahead of Jona­than Brauns in third. Rob Toland outlasted the field in the Eriksen Chevrolet IMCA Modified feature. Bruening scores IMCA Late Model win at Farley

By Jerry Mackey FARLEY, Iowa (Aug. 18) – With the biggest race of the year, the Yankee Dirt Track Classic, less than two weeks away, three-time event winner Tyler Bruening used Friday night at Farley Speed­way as a tune-up. The Out-Pace Racing Products IMCA Late Models took the green with Nick Marolf in the lead. Marolf held the lead until near the midway point of the caution-free 25-lapper when Bruening was able to take the lead after advancing from a sixth position start. Bruening held off the late challenges of point leader Justin Kay and took the checkers by a car length. Kay shot to the front of the GSI Collision Specialist IMCA Modified feature from his fourth row start, taking the lead on lap eight en route to the 20-lap feature win. United Rebel Sprint Series Ready for Three This Weekend!

By David Smith Jr. OBERLIN, Kan. – The United Rebel Sprint Series is set for three straight nights of racing action in Kan­sas this weekend as the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car series heads to the Rooks County Fair­grounds in Stockton on Friday night, Aug. 18, before heading to Oberlin Speedway in Oberlin, Kansas for the annual Bob Salem Memorial on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 19-20. Current URSS leader Zach Blurton holds a slim 12-point advantage over Steven Richardson while Jed Werner is just 24-points out of the point lead. Oklahoma’s Ty Williams will make the journey into Kansas fourth in the standings while Darren Berry sits fifth. J.D. Johnson, Tracey Hill, Brian Herbert, Aaron Ploussard and Keefe Hemel round out the top ten 10. Kansas Thunder Series wraps up at Stockton

By Mike Hughes STOCKTON, Kan. (Aug. 17) – The Kansas Thunder Series closed out the 2017 season at Rooks County Speedway in Stockton on Thursday evening during the Rooks County Free Fair. Point champions in two of the four divisions were up for grabs. Four drivers were still in the running for the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock crown as 19 cars took the green flag. Zach Olmstead took the lead on the opening lap before Brady Bencken took over a lead he would not relinquish. Three cautions kept the field close but Bencken was up to the occasion to score the win. Garrett Hager charged from his 11th starting spot to take second, followed by Olmstead. Cody Williams finished fourth, good enough to claim the series championship. Fifth was Jeromy Wagner.
