Thrasher wins again at Southern Iowa Speedway

By Jeremy Fox OSKALOOSA, Iowa (April 15) – Mother Nature ruled last week, but Frostbuster winner Danny Thrasher picked up right where he left off two weeks ago at Southern Iowa Speedway. Thrasher led the distance and held off several challenges from Jamie Songer to take the Pepsi Cola IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock win Wednesday evening. Bill Bonnett got by Songer for second coming to the checkers. Jacob Murray scored the Musco Lighting IMCA Modifieds victory despite the best efforts of hard-charging Carter VanDenBerg and Jimmy Gustin. Zack Vanderbeek worked his way from seventh starting to second and finally made the pass of Damon Murty for the Budweiser IMCA Stock Car lead on lap eight. Vanderbeek held on to win despite a restart with four circuits to go. Cayden Carter got by Damon Murty on lap 15 to take second. Fifth starting Curtis VanDerWal took the lead at the start and pulled away from the pack in topping the KBOE Radio Northern SportMod main event. Brett Lowry ran second the entire distance. IMCA Modifieds open 27th season at Crystal on Saturday

CRYSTAL, Mich. – Test and tune sessions at Crystal Motor Speedway are complete and officials at the 3/8-mile clay oval are making final preparations for the season opener on April 18. IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds kick off their 27th consecutive season at Crystal Saturday. Pit gates open at 4:30 p.m. and the main grandstand opens at 5 p.m. Adults spectator admission is $12 and kids ages 5-11 are $5. Pit passes are $25. Out-Pace announces new awards for IMCA special events drivers

FREEPORT, Ill. (April 15) – Out-Pace Racing Products will give new awards to special events competitors in its second year as an IMCA marketing partner. Drivers finishing in the top five at 30 Modified specials and at 15 SportMod specials receive $50 gift certificates from the Freeport, Ill., suspension component manufacturer. Out-Pace again gives $50 gift certificates to a top five finisher at each Deery Brothers Summer Series Late Model event and each Hawkeye Dirt Tour Modified event. Weekend Ice Breaker Challenge opens season at Eagle

EAGLE, Neb. – The new race season at Eagle Raceway starts with the traditional Ice Breaker Challenge this Friday and Saturday, April 17 and 18. IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds race for $1,000 to win on Friday and for $2,000 to win on Saturday. A minimum of $50 will be paid to start and both events are qualifiers for the 2015 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. Also on the Friday program are Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks, both running for $500 to win and a minimum of $70 to start. Larry Shaw Race Cars in fourth season as IMCA’s Western Region title sponsor

BATESVILLE, Ark. – Modified drivers at a record number of tracks in IMCA’s Western Region will enjoy the title sponsorship support of Larry Shaw Race Cars for a fourth consecutive season in 2015. The Batesville, Ark., chassis builder again provides a portion of the $6,000 point fund to be paid to top 10 drivers in official standings for the region encompassing Arizona, California, western Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, northern New Mexico, Oregon, Utah and Wyoming. Drivers are required to display two Larry Shaw Racing decals on their race car to be eligible for point fund shares. The champion earns $2,500, with $1,250 for second, $625 for third, $325 for fourth and $300 for fifth. Sixth through 10th place finishers each receive $200. Sanctioned Modified events are scheduled at 50 tracks in the region this year. Mach-1 Sport Compacts make Wisconsin debut at 141

FRANCIS CREEK, Wis. – IMCA’s Mach-1 Sport Compact division makes its Wisconsin debut on opening night April 18 at 141 Speedway. The four cylinder class takes the place of a similar sport-4 class that had run weekly on the 1/3-mile clay oval. “At the end of the day, our decision to sanction the class came down to rules. IMCA makes them and we enforce them,” explained Dan Ratajczak, who co-owns and co-promotes Francis Creek with his brother Scott and Toby Kruse. “Being able to follow a nationwide set of rules is the biggest thing for us.” 141 also sanctions the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified, IMCA Sunoco Stock Car and Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod divisions. FARLEY, Iowa (April 14) – A weekend doubleheader takes the Deery Brothers Summer Series to two tracks with long IMCA Late Model tour histories. Features at Farley Speedway on Friday, April 17 and at Hamilton County Speedway in Webster City on Saturday, April 18 both pay $3,000 to win and a minimum of $300 to start. Pit gates open at 5:30 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 6:30 p.m. at Farley. Hot laps are at 7:30 p.m. with racing to follow. Armed with fast car, high aspirations, Childs starts with three straight Sport Compact wins

WEATHERFORD, Texas – Folks were telling Julia Childs she had a fast car before the season started. She proved them right by winning the Mach-1 Sport Compact opener at Boyd Raceway on March 13. After a rainout, the Weatherford High School sophomore won March 27 and April 3 starts at the same speedplant. “It was pretty neat. I was on a roll,” said Childs, who finished third despite a broken tie rod her next night out. “I was hoping I could make it four wins in a row. That didn’t happen but three straight wins was a big accomplishment.” A top five finisher in a dozen of her 21 starts last year as a rookie, Childs was runner-up to car builder and crewman Brant Bachman in the Boyd point standings. Bonine trades paint late, still leaves Raceway Park with top IMCA Modified check

By Bob Coney JEFFERSON, S.D. (April 11) – After trading some paint, Matt Bonine took home the big check from Saturday’s season-opening Spring Nationals at Raceway Park. Bonine earned $1,000 and a spot on the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot for his IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified efforts. Contact with another car resulted in steering issues late in the 25-lapper but Bonine continued to make the most of the lower line in turns one and two and held off Ricky Stephan for the victory. Bob Moore, Jim Cole and early leader Jim Thies completed the top five. Shawn Primrose kept five-time defending track champion Jason Ward in check for the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car win. OSKALOOSA, Iowa – No pit pass fee will be charged to drivers who compete in the rescheduled opening night show Wednesday, April 15 at Southern Iowa Speedway. Inclement weather got the upper hand over last week’s scheduled show. IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Mach-1 Sport Compacts comprise the upcoming draw/redraw card.
