Jamestown hosts IMCA Modifieds this Saturday

JAMESTOWN, N.D. – Jamestown Speedway rolls out the red carpet this Saturday, June 6 for the first of five appearances this season by IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds on the ¼-mile high-banked clay oval. The feature pays $500 to win. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, Belleville Motorsports North Central Region and Allstar Performance State Points will be awarded. “We like bringing the IMCA Modifieds here because it gives our fans a chance to see popular drivers they know and remember but don’t get to see race often,” said promoter Tim Baldwin. Pit gates open at 4 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 5 p.m. Racing starts at 7 p.m.; the IMCA feature will be the second main event on the evening’s program. Kossuth County hosts IMCA North Star Touring Series on Thursday

ALGONA, Iowa (June 1) – IMCA’s North Star Touring Series makes its first venture outside the State of Minnesota, when Kossuth County Speedway hosts the June 4 show. Touring IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Mach-1 Sport Compacts race at Algona on Thursday evening. All applicable points, including special series points, will be awarded. They’ll be joined by IMCA Late Models running for IMCA Speedway Motors National and Allstar Performance State points. Pit gates and the grandstand both open at 5:30 p.m. Hot laps are at 7 p.m. and racing starts at 7:30 p.m. Pit passes are $25. Grandstand admission is $10. Alvarado has 2,000 reasons to celebrate after sweep at Diamond Mountain special

VERNAL, Utah (May 29-30) – The success Ricky Alvarado enjoyed at Diamond Mountain Speedway over the course of his Wild West Tour career carried over to a pair of weekend Racing For A Reason Rumble victories. IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified victories Friday and Saturday at Vernal were each worth $1,000 plus lap money. “I don’t know what it is about Diamond Mountain,” admitted Alvarado, a six-time winner when the Wild West Tour visited. “It’s a fun little track that fits my driving style.” Alvarado started outside pole in Friday’s 20-lapper and had the lead before sliding high and falling back to fourth. He found the line at the top of the track, ran side-by-side with Justen Yeager for two circuits and then eked ahead on the last lap, winning by a car length. Hopkins bests Bay Area Tour foes at Southern Raceway

MILTON, Fla. (May 30) – Greg Hopkins started outside row one, took the lead early and stayed in front to the finish of Saturday’s Bay Area Emerald Coast Tour at Southern Raceway. The IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified tour win was the second of the season for Hopkins and came ahead of Justin Galbreath, who mounted a late charge from the ninth starting spot. Tietz tops Bruns Cup opener at Jackson

JACKSON, Minn. (May 30) – Ken Tietz started his trek toward a third career Dominick Bruns Memorial Challenge Cup Chase crown with the Saturday checkers at Jackson Speedway. The IMCA Sunoco Stock Car victory was Tietz’ first this season and was good for $1,000. Devin Smith, Shaun Bruns, David Wickman and Jason Mickelson completed the top five. “I was very thankful to get this one,” said Tietz, who topped Challenge Cup Chase point standings in 2011 and 2013. “There were some very good drivers up here.” Tietz had started third in the field of 26, then fell back to fifth behind Wickman, Smith, defending Chase champion Jim Larson and Dustin Larson. Lennox scores big payday at Quincy

(May 31) – The Summy Tire and Auto Center IMCA Northern SportMod main event was the special event of the evening Sunday at Quincy Raceway, with the 22-car field competing for $500 first place money. Pat Dunker of Dunker Concrete Services came up with a twist with the Back Row Challenge issued to the first two drivers to accept the challenge in the first five rows of the feature event. Brandon Lennox and Wes Mayfield accepted the challenge and went to the rear of the field to start the 27-lap main event. As the crowd got into the festivities, more money was raised to bring the total bonus to win from the back row to a whopping $600, giving a possible $1,100 to win for Mayfield or Lennox. Lennox and Mayfield used several early caution periods to their advantage to move up quickly in the field with Lennox working his way into third by the 12th lap. Wilinski wins Modified main at Seymour

(May 31) – Jerry Wilinski took the lead on lap three and held off all challengers in capturing his first local Budweiser IMCA Modified checkers of the season Sunday at Seymour Speedway. Wilinski was solidly in control the second half of the contest while Benji LaCrosse methodically picked his way to the front and was moving on Mike Wedelstadt for second when the white flag appeared. Right after the leaders took the white flag, the sole caution of the race appeared and ended the contest one lap short with Wilinski in front. Wedelstadt took the runner-up spot with LaCrosse settling for third. A solid field of 133 cars filled the pit area and ran an excellent program that was completely in the books by 9 p.m. The Coors Light IMCA Stock Cars had 34 entries that put a very competitive field of 20 on the track for their feature event. Dolan delivers IMCA Late Model win at Benton County Speedway

VINTON, Iowa (May 31) – Ryan Dolan raced the top side to victory in the IMCA Late Model Sunday Series headliner at Benton County Speedway. Todd Cooney came from the second row to assume command on lap two and was challenged by Sean Johnson for the lead while Dolan worked from a fifth row starting spot. Dolan settled into fourth place when caution slowed action just prior to the halfway point of the 25-lapper. Following the final stoppage on lap 13, Dolan went to work on the outside of both Johnson and Charlie McKenna to steal second with four laps to go. Dolan quickly reeled in Cooney as the lead pair battled side-by-side before Dolan drove away to the victory. Cooney ran second ahead of a hard-charging John Emerson. Brandies is best in Marshalltown Stock feature

By Jeremy Fox MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (May 29) – When the dust settled Friday night at Marshalltown Speedway, David Brandies was among the four drivers with IMCA feature wins. Brandies wrestled the lead away in the MIller Lite IMCA Stock Car feature from Nick Thelen. Thelen got sideways in turn three, leaving Tyler Pickett and Steve Meyer with nowhere to go. Brandies pulled away while behind him the battle for second featured Jeff Wollam, Donavon Smith, Matt Deaton, Michael Jaennette and Trent Murphy. Murphy got the best of that battle ahead of Smith. Jake Strayer paced the Coors Light IMCA Modified main. Austin Luellen scored his fifth local Toby K’s Hideaway IMCA Hobby Stock victory. Clint Luellen was the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod winner following a duel with Sam Sieben.
