Weather gets win at Lee County, Marshalltown hosts Friday IMCA Frostbuster

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa – With the rainout of Thursday’s event at Lee County Speedway, opening night for the IMCA Frostbusters moves to Marshalltown Speedway on Friday, April 7. IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods also run at Frostbusters Saturday, April 8 at Boone Speedway and Sunday, April 9 at Benton County Speedway in Vinton. All Frostbuster Modified main events pay $1,000 to win and are qualifying events for the 2017 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. Stock Cars run for $500 to win, Northern SportMods for $400 to win and Hobby Stocks for $250 to win each night. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, regional and Allstar Performance State points will be given at all three shows. Park Jefferson opens season with Jimmy Cole Night

JEFFERSON, S.D. – Park Jefferson Speedway will open its 2017 racing season on Saturday, April 8 with Salute to Jimmy Cole Night. Popular racer Cole is fighting cancer and this night will see Park Jefferson donate $1 from every ticket to his recovery fund. This night will also be the kickoff to the 2017 IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing season and thanks to fan donations, the IMCA Modified winner will earn $1,255 along with a berth of the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. Second place in the Modified feature pays $555. Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks will run for $355 to win and the Mach-1 Sport Compacts for $155 to win. Pellegrini family adds top five bonuses for Mid-Atlantic Sprint Series opener

Fronsman, Stafford are Canyon IMCA winners

(April 2) – George Fronsman captured his fifth victory of the season in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car division while Bradley Stafford took home his third IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock win in a row at Canyon Speedway Park on Saturday night. The Stock Cars once again put on one of the best races of the evening. After picking up his first win of the season two weeks ago at the Shamrock Showcase, Cody Center jumped out to the early lead. Behind him the battle raged as Justin Thornton battled Fronsman throughout the first half of the race. Fronsman continued to apply the pressure until he was finally able to make a pass to the inside in the late stages of the race. Winnemucca pays $1,000 to Sunday High Desert Classic Shootout IMCA Modified winner

WINNEMUCCA, Nev. – On opening weekend of a season dedicated to building IMCA Modified car counts, Winnemucca Regional Raceway will pay $1,000 to the winner of the Sunday, April 9 High Desert Classic Shootout main event. IMCA Modifieds race for $500 to win in the Saturday, April 8 lidlifter at Winnemucca. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, Larry Shaw Racing Western Region, Allstar Performance State and local track points will be awarded and both shows will be draw/redraw. Sunday’s feature is a 2017 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying event. Title sponsor of the High Desert Classic Shootout is Model T Hotel and Casino. Pit gates open at 10 a.m. and the grandstand opens at 11 a.m. both days. Hot laps are at 11:30 a.m. with racing at noon. Leraas leads last in Virginia Sprint Series opener

(April 1) – A cool evening greeted fans on opening night and Mike Leraas cooled off the rest of the Virginia Sprint Series field to take the feature win Saturday at Shenandoah Speedway. Glenn Worrell and Leraas paced the IMCA RaceSaver main event field to green and it was Worrell out first with Leraas, Tony Harris and Jerald Harris all in a group at the front. Laps clicked off fast as Leraas was making the high line work. He went to the front on lap 15 just as Worrell was fading. The Harris brothers went by Worrell also and Tony went on the attack. Shryock takes off, takes home top cash from Tri-State Kegger

POCOLA, Okla. (April 1) – Kelly Shryock admitted to having some concerns after drawing the outside row five start in Saturday’s Cecil Harlan Memorial Kegger IMCA Modified main event at Tri-State Speedway. “There were some pretty good drivers starting ahead of me. I drew 10 and thought the inside row was going to take off,” he said. “They dropped the green, I took off and I think we had the lead by lap five. It turned out to be a pretty cool win for us.” No stranger to the Pocola speedplant, Shryock took home more than a little gas money – $1,500 – for the victory. Sprint Series of Oklahoma reschedules Longdale show

By David Smith Jr. LONGDALE, Okla. – Saturday night’s event at Longdale Speedway for the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Series of Oklahoma presented by Smiley’s Racing Products and the United Rebel Sprint Series Myers Racing Engines national was canceled because of rain. Track and series officials have rescheduled this combined event for Saturday, Aug. 26. The next event for the Sprint Series of Oklahoma will be held Friday, April 21, at Southern Oklahoma Speedway in Ardmore, for the second of seven races scheduled at the speedway. In the season opener on March 25, it was Wichita Falls, Texas driver Chad Koch getting the best of a 31-car field to capture his first-ever series victory.

IMCA Spring Shootout starts new season at Fairmont Raceway

FAIRMONT, Minn. – Fairmont Raceway opens the 2017 season with five IMCA divisions filling the card for the Friday and Saturday, April 7 and 8 Cellan Motorsports Spring Shootout. IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods all race for $1,000 to win, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks for $700 to win and Mach-1 Sport Compacts for $300 to win on Friday. Saturday winner’s shares are $2,000 for Modifieds, $1,500 for Stock Cars and SportMods, $1,000 for Hobby Stocks and $500 for Sport Compacts. Marolf is the main man in Deery Series opener at 34 Raceway

WEST BURLINGTON, Iowa (April 1) – Nick Marolf will have much memories of his second visit to 34 Raceway than he will of his first. Marolf passed Darrel DeFrance and led the last 30 times around the track in winning Saturday’s Deery Brothers Summer Series opener at West Burlington, earning $2,000 for his IMCA Late Model tour efforts. His one previous outing at 34 came at the Pepsi USA Nationals 17 years ago when his drive shaft broke during hot laps. “That was early in my career and we were just trying to make laps. That night was forgetful. I’d like to not remember it at all,” Marolf said. “We got lucky tonight with the redraw and got to start close to the front (third).
