Meyer, Albrant among winners at Boone Speedway

By Joyce Eisele BOONE, Iowa (July 17) – You couldn’t have asked for better racing than the fans saw at the Boone Speedway on Saturday night.  The 167 cars that checked into the track put on some of the best racing of the year with close finishes and exciting action throughout all classes. Nick Meyer in the IMCA Modifieds was a first-time winner at Boone, as was Nate Albrant in the Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods and Dillon Raffurty in the IMCA STARS Mod Lites.  Eric Stanton returned to victory lane in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Devin Smith picked up his fourth regular season victory in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car division.  It was also a night where drivers and fans paid their respects to longtime worker at the track, Tammy Stevens who recently lost her fight to cancer. She was the gal who got the command to “send them Tammy” as the cars pulled onto the track. There was an increased purse in all classes thanks to donations from drivers and sponsors, with many [Read More]

By Ben Deatherage COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (July 16) – Curtis Towns raced to IMCA Modified win number two of the season at Cottage Grove Speedway Friday night.  Paul Rea was the early race leader in the main event.  The veteran chauffeur set a fast pace until his driveline spat out, on lap five, sidelining him for the rest of the race. Shryock earns career win number 500 at Kossuth County

By Greg Grabianowski  ALGONA, Iowa (July 15) – To say that Kelly Shryock’s racing career has been special would be a huge understatement. The veteran driver reached yet another milestone on July 15 at Kossuth County Speedway as he earned his 500th career victory. The milestone win came with a little icing on the cake for Shryock as the Beck’s Hybrid IMCA Sunoco Stock Car Special paid a cool $1,000 to the victor on Thursday evening.  Kevin Opheim and Ryan Watnem brought the 16-car field to the starting line as Watnem jumped out to the early lead. The caution flag appeared on lap number three and Donavon Smith became the new leader after the restart.  The yellow flag came out one lap later again but Smith continued to hold the lead. On lap six, Shryock took over the top spot and never looked back for his memorable win and his fifth Stock Car feature win of the summer in Algona.  Smith held on for the runner-up spot followed by Derek Green, Troy Swearingen and Watnem. Believe it! James tops IMCA Modifieds in Dakota Classic Tour finale at Mandan

MANDAN, N.D. (July 15) – On opening night of the Corral Sales Dakota Classic Tour, Bricen James didn’t believe he had a top 10 car. But the Oregon driver stood on the top step of the podium on the final night of the 32nd annual tour after leading all 30 laps of the $2,000 to win IMCA Modified feature at Dacotah Speedway. “The car was so easy to drive. It was just perfect,” he said following the Thursday checkers. “This is our first time on the tour so we’ve never been to any of these tracks. Winning (tonight) was pretty danged cool.”  His best finish in four tour starts, before a Wednesday DNQ, had been 17th. Making some minor changes led to a “less aggressive” setup that paid off at Mandan. Timely cautions kept lapped cars from becoming a factor and James was catching up with the back of the field at the finish. Former tour champion Marlyn Seidler was runner-up. Tripp Gaylord and Ethan Dotson were next across the stripe. Tim Ward’s charge from 13th starting [Read More]

Déjà vu on Night 5 of IMCA Dakota Tour as Laney is IMCA Modified winner at Southwest

DICKINSON, N.D. (July 14) – Almost five years to the day he first won at Southwest Speedway, Cody Laney raced his way back to victory lane at the lightning-quick North Dakota oval. Laney topped the fifth installment of the Corral Sales Dakota Classic Tour IMCA Modified feature, adding to his tour point lead with the $2,000 checkers.  The California driver had also been the winner of the July 13, 2016 event at Dickinson, his only previous tour victory.  “That’s the only other time I’ve raced here,” said Laney, noting that track prep for the Wednesday night show fit his driving style. “Last year was the first time we’d raced the tour since then. We had motor problems and I only raced the first three nights.” “Following the tour is a lot of work but it’s a really cool deal,” he continued. “The tour has been around a long time and has a lot of prestige. There are a lot of good drivers – the locals are really good.”  Former tour champion Troy Cordes led much [Read More]
