Bob Salem Memorial next for United Rebel Sprint Series

Events

OBERLIN, Kan. – The Bob Salem Memorial is on tap for the Drive to Zero POWRi United Rebel Sprint Series Presented by Mel Hambelton Ford Racing.

The event is held dear to series promoter Rick Salem, as a race honoring his late father. This year along with Salem is a tribute to Tosha Garrison, who was a beloved fan of the series and dirt track racing in general.

Racing action will take place atop the ⅜-mile oval of Oberlin Speedway in Oberlin, Kan., on Friday, Aug. 13 and Saturday, Aug. 14. Races are slated to begin at 7 p.m. both nights, with general admission $15 for adults, children ages 7-12 for $5, and children 6 and under free of charge.

An extra $50 has been added to start the feature event both nights, bumping Friday’s feature to $200 to start and Saturday’s feature paying $250 to start. The grand prize for Friday’s feature winner will pay $700, with Saturday paying $1,000 to win.

A Let ‘Er Rip Tater Chip Challenge in honor of Tosha Garrison has been added for those in competition both nights. The highest cumulative points driver from both nights will earn an extra $1,000, second highest an extra $800, third $500, and fourth highest in accrued points earning an extra $400.

Several contingencies have been added to this weekend’s Bob Salem Memorial for Drive to Zero United Rebel Sprint Series drivers, including motor oil from Myers Engine Services, fuel and much more. Another incentive for drivers is an added $500 for the quickest lap time throughout the weekend’s events, sponsored by Marshall Trucking.

Several fan giveaways are in place, including kids’ fishing poles, “Back to School” backpacks, apparel, and more.

Fast start sends Williams to opening night URSS victory

DODGE CITY, Kan. (April 24) – The Drive to Zero POWRi United Rebel Sprint Series Presented by Mel Hambelton Ford Racing kicked off its season atop the 3/8-mile semi-banked clay oval of Dodge City Raceway Park on Saturday. Twenty-one cars were in action for the season opener as Ty Williams claimed the victory. Williams and Connor Atkinson set the early pace for the 30-lap IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car main event with some heat from Jeremy Huish and Luke Cranston. On lap three, Huish got past Atkinson and lap four saw Cranston passing Atkinson and Huish to take second.   Williams, Cranston, and Huish remained in the top three while defending URSS champion, Zach Blurton made his march forward from the 10th place starting position. Cranston pull several slide jobs on Williams only to have Williams cross under and continue to lead. Richardson is best in URSS opener at Bullring Nationals

LaCROSSE, Kan. (July 25) – The POWRi United Rebel Sprint Series Presented by Mel Hambelton Ford Racing took to the Bullring at Rush County Speedway and Steven Richardson maneuvered a last lap pass to claim the night one Bullring Nationals feature win.  Zach Blurton and Jordan Knight set the pace for the 25-lap feature event for the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars. Blurton took off with the early lead. Koby Walters and Jordan Knight fell in behind the race leader. Blurton finessed lapped traffic on lap seven, separating some distance between himself and the runner-up.   A late race caution saw the field bunched back up. Some confusion on the restart called for mass chaos for front-runners Blurton and Walters. Both took off for the restart but the waving of the green had not yet occurred. Werner, Walters are URSS winners at RPM

HAYS, Kan. (June 13-14) – Jed Werner and Koby Walters ran the string of Mel Hambelton Ford Racing POWERi United Rebel Sprint Series winners to four in as many events, when the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car series joined the Mike Hughes Memorial Sunflower Classic slate at RPM Speedway. Werner got a run on race-long leader Shane Sundquist down the backstretch with just three laps to go to claim the opening night event on Saturday. Walters took the lead just before midway and never looked back to claim Sunday honors. Only two car lengths separated the front pair with five laps to go on Saturday. Lap 23 saw Werner get a run on the top side coming out of turn two and storm past Sundquist down the back stretch to take the lead.
