Winebarger scores third Wild West IMCA Modified Shootout win at SSP

By Ben Deatherage  BANKS, Ore. (Aug. 13) – The third different leader raced to his third feature win in seven Wild West IMCA Modified Shootout starts Friday at Sunset Speedway Park. Collen Winebarger got the best of a 23-car IMCA Modified field at Banks Bullring, earning $1,000 for his career 11th series triumph. Jake Mayden led the field at the start of the 40-lap main event and remained the pacesetter until lap five, when Greg Walters overtook him. Winebarger chased down Walters after one of seven restarts and took control of the top spot on lap 15, dealing with any lapped traffic and leading the rest of the way. Mayden rallied to end the race second while Grey Ferrando placed third.  Greg Walters took home fourth while the top five was completed by Craig Cassell in fifth. Cassell scores huge victory in Wild West IMCA Modified Shootout at Banks

By Ben Deatherage  BANKS, Ore. (Aug. 12) – A frequent visitor to victory lane at Sunset Speedway Park raced to a huge win Thursday night at the Banks Bullring. Craig Cassell’s fifth win of the season at SSP was also his career first in Wild West IMCA Modified Shootout action and the $1,000 checkers make him eligible to qualify for the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. When the initial green flag flew for the 40-lap main event, Cassell got right to the point and then had no issue with lapped traffic when he approached it. Toward the end of the race, Cassell began to feel pressure from behind. Collen Winebarger briefly challenged but Cassell kept him in check. Winebarger threw a slider on Cassell with a few laps to go, which Cassell countered with a cross-over maneuver. Five more IMCA Modified drivers eligible for Fast Shafts All-Star qualifying

BOONE, Iowa – Another five IMCA Modified drivers have made themselves eligible to qualify for the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational with recent feature wins.  Dylan Sillman, Jacob Pirkle and Chris Zogg all topped qualifying weekly events while Curtis Towns and Craig Cassell became eligible with checkered flag runs during the Wild West IMCA Modified Shootout. Drivers winning sanctioned events paying $1,000 or more held through the first weekend of September become eligible to qualify. They must be pre-registered for the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s to attempt to qualify for the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational.  Two rounds of group time trials on Thursday, Sept. 9 determine 28 of the 30 All-Star starters with the top driver in national point standings and the leader in 40-point feature wins attending Super Nationals at Boone Speedway completing the Friday, Sept. 10 grid. 77 IMCA Stock Car drivers eligible to qualify for inaugural B & B Chassis All-Star Invitational

BOONE, Iowa – Cameron Wilkinson is the latest addition to the list of IMCA Sunoco Stock Car drivers eligible to qualify for the B & B Chassis All-Star Invitational field.  Wilkinson won Sunday’s Thayer County Fair special. Time trial qualifying is Sept. 8 with the inaugural invitational to be held Thursday, Sept. 9 during the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s at Boone Speedway.  Drivers winning sanctioned events paying $750 or more held through the first weekend of September become eligible to qualify. Wild West Shootout checkers fly for Williamson in round 5

By Ben Deatherage COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (Aug. 10) – The quarter-mile clay oval at Cottage Grove Speedway continued to be good to Jesse Williamson Tuesday night. Williamson sped to his second $1,000 win in five Wild West IMCA Modified Shootout starts. The four-time series champion now owns 14 career tour victories, with five coming a CGS.  Jake Mayden was the early leader in the 40-lap main event and held onto the position until being overtaken on lap nine.  Williamson prevailed despite multiple yellow flags. Collen Winebarger ended the race second with third going to Eston Whisler. Veteran Paul Rea was scored fourth with fifth going to Mayden.  The Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod main had several stoppages but one thing remained the same and that was that Ryan Peery was in fine and dominant form.  The California teenager took possession of the lead on the opening start. Sheridan Speedway hosts Aug. 13-15 I-90 Challenge for IMCA Modifieds

SHERIDAN, Wy. – IMCA Modifieds are in action each night of Sheridan’s Speedway’s Aug. 13, 14 and 15 I-90 Challenge.  The Friday night feature pays $450 to win, with $800 paid to win on Saturday and $900 to win on Sunday. All three programs will be draw/redraw. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, Shaw Race Cars Western, KMJ Performance State and track points awarded each night. Entry fee is $40 on Friday, $75 on Saturday and $100 on Sunday or $215 for all three nights.  The pit gate opens at 4 p.m. Friday and at 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Drivers’ meetings are at 6 p.m. and will be followed by mud-in and racing each night. Pit passes for adults are $30 a night of $90 for all three nights. Youth 12 and under pit passes are $10 a night or $30 for all three nights. $250 Sunoco bonus Friday night in Davenport

VINTON, Iowa – Extra money is on the line for the potential winner of the main event for IMCA Sunoco Late Models this Friday at Davenport. The next installment of the $250 Sunoco Race Fuels bonus will be paid to the August 13 Late Model winner at Davenport Speedway.  Sunoco bonuses will be presented at IMCA Late Model sanctioned tracks in 2021. Drivers are eligible for one bonus during the racing season. Winners so far this year have been Matt Ryan at 300 Raceway in Farley, followed by Sean Johnson at Independence Motor Speedway, Andy Eckrich at 34 Raceway in West Burlington, Ron Klein at Dubuque Speedway, Kyle Prauner at U.S. 30 Speedway in Columbus, Chase Osborne at Boone County Raceway in Albion, Brock Carlson at Off Road Speedway in Norfolk, and most recently to Dave Eckrich last Friday night at Lee County Speedway in Donnellson.  IMCA will announce mid-week before the dates bonuses are to be awarded at each track.

Bob Salem Memorial next for United Rebel Sprint Series

OBERLIN, Kan. – The Bob Salem Memorial is on tap for the Drive to Zero POWRi United Rebel Sprint Series Presented by Mel Hambelton Ford Racing. The event is held dear to series promoter Rick Salem, as a race honoring his late father. This year along with Salem is a tribute to Tosha Garrison, who was a beloved fan of the series and dirt track racing in general. Racing action will take place atop the ⅜-mile oval of Oberlin Speedway in Oberlin, Kan., on Friday, Aug. 13 and Saturday, Aug. 14. Races are slated to begin at 7 p.m. both nights, with general admission $15 for adults, children ages 7-12 for $5, and children 6 and under free of charge. An extra $50 has been added to start the feature event both nights, bumping Friday’s feature to $200 to start and Saturday’s feature paying $250 to start. The grand prize for Friday’s feature winner will pay $700, with Saturday paying $1,000 to win.
