Williamson collects third Wild West Modified Shootout win at SSP

By Ben Deatherage BANKS, Ore. (June 17) – Jesse Williamson’s drive to a career third Wild West Modified Shootout crown continued with his third feature win of the 2015 tour Wednesday at Sunset Speedway Park. B.J. Wild was the man to beat for much of the first half of the $1,000 to win Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified race. Wild was under constant pressure from Williamson but each time it seemed the challenger had the position secured the yellow would come out resulting in Wild retaining the lead. On lap 21, defending champion Alex Stanford negotiated his way into the lead and took right off.  Stanford was catching lapped traffic before getting into the wall after contact was made with a lapped car on lap 37. Stanford was towed off the track and Williamson moved to the front for the restart. With a handful of laps to go, Williamson stayed in front the rest of the way for his third main event of the 2015 Shootout and second career Shootout win at SSP. Wild ended [Read More]

Williamson is first to repeat Wild West Modified Shootout checkers

By Ben Deatherage COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (June 16) – A two-time tour champion became the first two-time winner in the 2015 Wild West Modified Shootout Tuesday at Cottage Grove Speedway. Jesse Williamson rallied to win the fourth installment of the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified tour, and $1,000. He’d also topped the opener at Southern Oregon Speedway on June 13. Forty-three cars from eight states and Canada were on hand for the Tuesday show. Californian Troy Foulger was the early leader before giving way to Williamson on lap five. Williamson appeared to have checked out and had the race won until going off of turns three and four on lap 16. He got back on the track but relinquished the front spot to defending champ Alex Stanford. Cautions took lapped traffic out of play while Stanford continued to lead and Williamson worked his way through the field. Williamson found his way around Stanford on the 28th circuit, just before the caution flag came out. Shortly after the restart, Mark Carrell came out of nowhere on the [Read More]

First IMCA win comes at Coos Bay for Martin

By Ben Deatherage COOS BAY, Ore. (June 15) – The third night of the 2015 Wild West Modified Shootout ended with a third different driver in victory lane. Brad Martin got the best of the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified field at Coos Bay Speedway, taking the $1,000 checkers and Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot berth despite the best efforts of Danny Lauer. The win was Martin’s IMCA career first. Thirty-three drivers from eight states and Canada vied at Coos Bay. Martin drew the pole and maintained the lead following a handful of cautions throughout the first 10 laps. As the green flag run continued, he started to catch up with the back of the pack. While struggling to handle traffic, Martin had to fight off the ultra fast Lauer. Lauer beat Martin to the line on lap 27 but couldn’t secure the position. The front two went back and forth in a seesaw battle that was eventually resolved when Martin worked his way through the lapped cars. California drivers filled out the rest of [Read More]

Peery scores huge Wild West Shootout win at Siskiyou

By Ben Deatherage YREKA, Calif. (June 14) – A quick decision late in the race paid off for Travis Peery. Originally from nearby Fort Jones, the North Dakota transplant won Sunday’s Wild West Modified Shootout feature at Siskiyou Motor Speedway. Peery started outside pole but the $1,000 Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified victory was sealed until he made a split second decision and chose the right lane that took him through lapped traffic with two circuits left. After taking the lead at the drop of the green, Peery set a rapid pace interrupted only by cautions on laps 15 and 18. The second yellow involved Colorado pilot Ryan Gaylord, running second at the time. He spun into the infield and the second spot was inherited by North Dakota chauffeur Troy Heupel. Heupel nearly caught Peery on a couple occasions but each time Peery was able to pull away. Heavy lapped traffic came into play with just a few laps remaining and that’s when Peery picked the right line to work his way through. The win [Read More]

By Ben Deatherage WHITE CITY, Ore.
