Dakota Tour online entries close on Thursday

JAMESTOWN, N.D. – Online entries close Thursday, July 6 for the 28th annual Kupper Chevrolet Dakota Classic Modified Tour. Early entries for the July 8-13 tour are already in hand from a record 94 IMCA Modified and 41 IMCA Sunoco Stock Car drivers. Seventeen states and Canada are already represented in pre-registration numbers. The tour starts on Saturday, July 8 at the Statesman County Fairgrounds Jamestown Speedway track in Jamestown. From there the Tour goes to Nodak Speedway on the North Dakota State Fairgrounds in Minot on Sunday, July 9. Round three takes the tour north of the border to Estevan, Sask., Motor Speedway on Monday, July 10. The tour’s next stop is Tuesday, July 11 at Williston Basin Speedway, located at the Upper Missouri Fairgrounds. Round number five is in Dickinson and Southwest Speedway on Wednesday, July 12. Marriott gets confidence boost, top check at Hogan Memorial

VINTON, Iowa (July 2) – It sounds hard to believe, but even Hunter Marriott needs a confidence booster once in a while. He got that, and a check for $3,433 Sunday night at Benton County Speedway. The 15th starting Marriott took the lead 29 laps into the 50-lap Hogan Memorial main event for IMCA Modifieds, then went to the higher line and held off fellow hard charger Tyler Droste for the victory. “I never count myself out. You always have the chance to win. You’ve just got to keep your head up and keep digging,” said Marriott, who had qualified through his ‘B’ feature. “I went out there, hit my marks and when I had a chance to get the lead, I took it.” Droste had started 13th. Dominant Dotson becomes first to repeat in Wild West IMCA Modified Shootout

(June 29) – Ethan Dotson became the first two-time feature winner when the Wild West IMCA Modified Shootout rolled into town Thursday for the first of three events at Willamette Speedway. Dotson enjoyed a smooth drive to the $1,000 checkers as the Bakersfield, Calif., hotshoe took full advantage of his front row starting position to seize the lead from the start. Already a Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational candidate, Dotson dominated the race in its entirety as the cautions came out just at the right time before lapped traffic would play a factor. Jesse Williamson, winner of the Sunset Speedway park event on Wednesday, was second with Brian Thompson, winner of his Thursday “B” qualifier, an impressive third. Defending champions among early entries for Kupper Chevrolet Dakota Classic Tour

JAMESTOWN, N.D. – Defending champions Hunter Marriott and Elijah Zevenbergen are among the nearly 100 drivers, from 16 states and Canada, who have already pre-registered for the upcoming Kupper Chevrolet Dakota Classic Tour. Early entries are already in hand from 63 Modified and 35 Stock Car drivers for the 28th annual tour, which travels to five tracks in North Dakota and another in Saskatchewan. Opening night is Saturday, July 8 at Jamestown Speedway. Two voting sessions planned to elect 28 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational starters

BOONE, Iowa – Twenty-eight of the 30 starters for the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational will be elected in a pair of polling sessions this summer. Three drivers from each of the five regions for IMCA Modifieds will be elected during polling from July 24-27; 13 more will be elected from an at-large pool of the next 25 top vote recipients between July 31 and Aug. 3. All voting will be conducted through the IMCA Facebook page. One hundred and fifteen drivers are currently vote eligible for the 14th annual Invitational, to be held Sept. 8 during the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s at Boone Speedway. IMCA Modified winner’s check could top $5,000 at Hogan Memorial

VINTON, Iowa – The IMCA Modified winner at Benton County Speedway’s 23rd annual Hogan Memorial could take home a check for more than $5,000. The Sunday, July 2 main event pays a minimum of $2,333 to win. Fifty dollars will be paid to the leader of each of the feature’s 50 laps with a bonus of $250 plus a new Hoosier G-60 tire going to the leader when the race is stopped at halfway. A 2017 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot-qualifier, the Hogan pays $983 for second, $808 for third, $683 for fourth and $558 for fifth. Minimum start money is $283. IMCA Stock Car Shootout set July 3-4 at Southern Iowa

OSKALOOSA, Iowa – The Class Too Tough To Tame takes top billing at the 22nd annual Budweiser Stock Car Shootout set for Monday and Tuesday, July 3 and 4 at Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa. IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars run for $2,500 to win, $1,500 for second and $1,000 for third; a minimum of $300 will be paid to start the Tuesday night main event. $1,000 IMCA Empire State Series feature during Fireworks Night at Outlaw Speedway

DUNDEE, N.Y. (June 27) – IMCA Modifieds race for $1,000 to win when the Empire State Series travels to Dundee this Friday to join the Fireworks Night event at Outlaw Speedway. The Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifier pays a minimum of $100 to start and IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, Dirt Works Eastern Region, Allstar Performance State and track points will be awarded at the June 30 show. There is no entry fee and the feature will be 30 laps. Pit gates open at 4 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 5 p.m. Hot laps are at 6 p.m. and racing starts at 7 p.m. Grandstand admission is $17 for adults, $15 for seniors and free for kids 12 and under. Campos collects Cottage Grove checkers for first Wild West IMCA Modified Shootout victory

(June 26) – John Campos earned $1,000 plus a dose of redemption along with the checkers when the Wild West IMCA Modified Shootout returned to Cottage Grove Speedway Monday night. Campos led the last 16 of 35 laps, running side-by-side with Mark Wauge much of that distance before taking the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying victory. “We were persistent on the bottom,” said Campos, who had started seventh. “He (Wauge) was right there. We had that late-race caution on lap 29 and checked out a bit from there.” The former super late model driver has found a more economical division in the IMCA Modifieds. Campos has followed the Shootout each of his three seasons in the sanctioned divisions and had posted second- and fourth-place finishes since being disqualified in post-race tech on opening night.
