Last lap pass lands Linkenhoker in Virginia Sprint Series victory lane

By Jim Haines SHENANDOAH, Va. (June 18) – Shenandoah Speedway has seen many great last-lap passes for the win as the wide track lends itself to multi-groove racing. Anthony Linkenhoker put his name on the list of drivers to win this same fashion in Saturday’s Virginia Sprint Series main event. Tony Harris and Bill Rice paced the field to green with Rice up high and leading the field with Harris running low. On lap 10, Harris made his move and was in the top spot as Rice with beginning to fade. Linkenhoker moved to second at halfway and the fight was really on. Harris was working his tires hard to stay up front as Linkenhoker kept sticking a nose in there three or four times as he tried high and low to get by, and with the white flag waving they were nose to tail again. Going into turn three Linkenhoker went high and Harris went low for a charge to the flag and they went across side by side with Linkenhoker charging by for [Read More]

Chadwick wins round six of Wild West Modified Shoot Out

By Ben Deatherage BANKS, Ore. (June 17) – Round six of the Wild West Modified Shoot Out at Sunset Speedway Park resulted in Kellen Chadwick’s third win of the Pacific Northwest Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified Tour. Chadwick outran fellow front row starter and 2012 race winner Ken Schrader for the 35-lap victory. Schrader was making his sole appearance on this year’s tour. The tight ¼-mile bullring in Banks is the smallest track of the 2016 tour and provided stellar action all night long. Forty-six cars made the journey, representing the states of Oregon, Washington, California, North Dakota, Montana, Colorado and Missouri as well as the Canadian province of British Columbia. Chadwick went right to work on the initial start, establishing a straightaway lead over Schrader in a matter of a few laps. Just as traffic was coming into the picture, however, a lap 10 caution was thrown for debris. The rest of the feature would be stop and go for several laps before the final restart on lap 28. More pit parking in the works for 34th Super Nationals

BOONE, Iowa – It’s a good problem to have, but a problem nonetheless. With another division added to the program, IMCA and track officials have been pro-active in making sure there’s enough pit area parking for the 34th annual IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s, to be held Monday through Saturday, Sept. 5-10 at Boone Speedway. In particular, the pits will be expanded to include the cell phone tower area south of the existing pit area. Divisions that run complete programs on a single day – the Southern SportMods on Monday, Sport Compacts on Tuesday and Deery Brothers Late Models on Thursday – will all have reserved space in that area, which will also accommodate overflow in all other divisions. Modifieds and Stock Cars can move in before their qualifying resumes on Friday. “We have addressed a number of issues at Super Nationals to be as accommodating as possible and pit parking has been number one,” said IMCA President Brett Root, also citing turn one seating and bleacher seating adjacent to the hot pit. 51 IMCA Modifieds at Willamette but rain is Wednesday Wild West Shoot Out winner

By Ben Deatherage LEBANON, Ore. (June 15) – Fifty-one Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds packed the pits for round five of the Wild West Shoot Out but rain was the Wednesday night winner at Willamette Speedway. Teams made the trip to Lebanon from the states of Oregon, Washington, California, North Dakota, Montana, Colorado, and North Carolina as well as the Canadian province of British Columbia. During the support class main event, a heavy rain began to fall and brought an early halt to that race.  Unfortunately, the race was not able to be resumed and the IMCA Modified feature was not able to be held. It is the first time that a Wild West Shoot Out race has fallen victim to weather since 2013 at Cottage Grove Speedway. The entire preliminary program was able to be completed with Mark Carrell, Brad Martin and Ryan Gaylord the winners of the three “B” mains. Sunset Speedway Park in Banks is the next stop on the tour. The bullring will host an appreciation party, presented by FinishLine Graphics, [Read More]

Wauge holds on to win round four of Wild West Shoot Out at Cottage Grove

By Ben Deatherage COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (June 14) – Despite drama on the last lap, Mark Wauge emerged from Tuesday’s Wild West Modified Shoot Out feature at Cottage Grove Speedway with the $1,000 feature win. While the second half of the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified main event ran practically caution free, Wauge had a close call on the final circuit after another car came to a halt in turn four. Wauge, and the rest of the field, managed to miss the stopped car and crossed the line to win for the second time in his Shoot Out career. Alex Stanford was scored second, followed by Bricen James, Danny Lauer and Randy Brown. Wauge had started from the pole position and built a sizable lead early on.  Following a lap seven restart, he paced the pack for a long green flag run. As Wauge started to catch the tail end of the field, he was briefly bottled up in lapped traffic before the yellow came out on lap 18. He remained in charge to the [Read More]

Once in front, Kay can’t be caught in Deery Series feature at West Liberty

WEST LIBERTY, Iowa (June 14) – Another West Liberty Deery Brothers Summer Series show, another IMCA Late Model tour win for Justin Kay. Kay led the last 22 of 40 laps in winning Tuesday’s main event at West Liberty Raceway. The $2,000 victory was his sixth in nine events there since July of 2013 – he finished fourth, second and third in the other three races – and third in as many outings in the car Brian Birkhofer had been driving. “We’d won weekly shows at Davenport Friday and West Liberty on Saturday. We didn’t make any changes from the weekly show here,” Kay said following Deery career win number 17. “We always enjoy racing at West Liberty.” Denny Eckrich had won the 30th annual tour opener back in April and led the first 17 circuits Tuesday night. Lapped traffic forced him to change lanes however and Kay was quick to pounce, taking the lead on the lower line coming out of turn two. The only caution of the race waved on lap 20. Kay cruised [Read More]
