Deery Brothers Summer Series gets top billing at Benton County Fair show

VINTON, Iowa – The Deery Brothers Summer Series headlines blue ribbon fair week entertainment next Thursday, June 27 at Benton County Speedway. The 50-lap $2,000 to win, minimum $300 to start main event marks just the fourth visit by the IMCA Late Model tour to Vinton. Pit gates open at 5 p.m. and the drivers’ meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. Hot laps are at 6:45 p.m. with racing to follow. Grandstand admission is $15 for adults, $5 for kids and free for youngsters ages five and under when accompanying a paid adult. Pit passes are $30. Also on the Benton County Fair program are IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods. Thornton repeats at 141 Clash with big IMCA Modified payday

FRANCIS CREEK, Wis. (June 20) – The much-traveled Ricky Thornton Jr. made another stop in victory lane Thursday night, this time at the end of a $10,000 payday. Thornton led the last 45 of the 50 laps in repeating as winner of the Clash at the Creek main event for IMCA Modifieds at 141 Speedway. “This event is definitely near the top of my list of wins. It’s huge,” he said. “The track fits my driving style and there were a lot of good cars here. Realistically, everyone in the feature had a shot to win it.” Pole starter Terry Phillips was second and 13th starting Hunter Marriott ended in third. Rounding out the top five were Jordan Grabouski and Tim Ward. Hard charger Joey Taycher took the initial green flag last in the field of 24 and finished 10th. INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (June 19) – Add another Deery Brothers Summer Series event at Independence Motor Speedway to the growing list of rainouts. Tonight’s IMCA Late Model tour race at Indee has been canceled due to rain and resulting conditions. No make-up date has been announced. Next up on the Deery schedule is the $2,000 to win event at Benton County Speedway in Vinton on Thursday, June 27. Pit gates open at 5 p.m. for the county fair show. Hot laps are at 6:30 p.m. and racing starts at 7 p.m.

Aikey’s new ride passes Deery Series test, Maquoketa checkers are tour career 69th

The 56-year old veteran put his fairly new ride to the test early in Tuesday evening’s 50-lap Deery Brothers Summer Series feature at Maquoketa Speedway. It passed the test with flying colors as he flew to the $2,000 IMCA Late Model tour victory. “I could go anywhere on this track,” the all-time Deery Brothers feature win leader said in victory circle after his 69th career win. “The track was prepared great.” Aikey rolled off third and had the point by lap four, passing pole starter Andy Eckrich. He drew away from a charging Joel Callahan for several laps after Callahan took second on lap 10. Foulger figuring out Merced, IMCA Modified checkers at Ed Parker Memorial pay $2,028

MERCED, Calif. (June 15) – Slowly but surely, Troy Foulger is figuring out the nuances at Merced Speedway. Foulger raced from sixth starting to win Saturday’s Ed Parker Memorial IMCA Modified main event. His third victory of the season at the Central Valley oval paid $2,028, plus lap money, and landed him on the ballot for the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. “It was awesome,” said Foulger, who split leader Randy Brown and a lapped car to take the front spot on the 19th of 30 circuits. “We ran in traffic most of the way and I tried to get through it as quick as I could.” After an early caution, the race stayed green all the way to lap 27. Thornton is dynamic in Dirt Duel win at Stuart

By Josh Reynolds STUART, Iowa (June 12) – Another big-money event ended with Ricky Thornton Jr. in victory lane, this time in an IMCA Sunoco Stock Car. The multi-division star raced from eighth starting to win the 50-lap headline event at Stuart Speedway’s Dynamic Drivelines Dirt Duel presented by Sniper Speed & Midstate Machine Wednesday night. The checkers were good for $3,000 and came ahead of Abe Huls and Johnny Spaw. Huls had taken the early lead over Elijah Zevenbergen and Spaw before the yellow flew on lap three. Huls led the next circuit with Zevenbergen taking over on lap five. Zevenbergen led one more lap until he went into a wild spin in turn two to bring out the second and what proved to be final yellow of the night. Super Nationals online registration underway

BOONE, Iowa – Online registration for the biggest and best event in all of dirt track racing is underway. Drivers in all divisions except the Late Models planning to compete at the Sept. 2-7 IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s must pre-register online. The form for pre-registration can be found at www.imca.com and www.raceboone.com under the Super Nationals menu. Drivers who do not already have a MyRacePass account can create one when they go to that link. “We began the on-line registration process last year and it helped speed up the entire process immensely,” said IMCA President Brett Root. “It made it considerably easier for our staff to prepare for Super Nationals leading up to the event and streamlined much of the actual week of Super Nationals for IMCA and Boone Speedway employees.” Drivers must also pre-register to reserve pit stalls and to compete in the Aug. 31 Prelude at Boone Speedway. MAQUOKETA, Iowa – Deery Brothers Summer Series drivers return to a pair of familiar venues next week, with $2,000 to win features Tuesday, June 18 at Maquoketa Speedway and Wednesday, June 19 at Independence Motor Speedway. Both IMCA Late Model main events pay a minimum of $300 to start. Maquoketa, the site of a dozen previous Deery events, opens the pit gates at 3:15 p.m. Racing follows 6:15 p.m. hot laps, with IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods on the program as well. BRITT, Iowa – There’s a $2,500 check waiting for the winner of Hancock County Speedway’s Tuesday, June 18 Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod Nationals. The MaxYield Seed-sponsored special pays a minimum of $300 to start. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National and E3 Spark Plugs Iowa State, but no track points will be awarded and top finishers from each heat advance to the $200 to win DeKalb/Asgrow Dash to determine their starting spots in the main event. IMCA Wild West Modified Shootout set for June 21-29

Teams from Oregon, Washington, California, North Dakota, British Columbia, and beyond are expected to make the journey. The Speedweek extravaganza ventures to some of the best racing facilities in California and Oregon.
