Winebarger dominates Wild West Shootout at Southern Oregon

(June 23) – Collen Winebarger brought his ‘A’ game to Southern Oregon Speedway Saturday night and as a result, the rest of the Wild West IMCA Modified Shootout field was in the race for second. The Corbett chauffeur went unchallenged nearly the entire distance after the early laps were interrupted by multiple cautions. Winebarger held the point through six restarts and felt some pressure in the closing laps from Ethan Dotson, but the California challenger was unable to complete the pass for the lead. Already on the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot, Winebarger picked up the $1,000 victory, the second of his Shootout career, ahead of Dotson, Grey Ferrando, ‘B’ feature winner Darrell Hughes and Bricen James. Trenchard tops Wild West IMCA Modified Shootout opener

(June 22) – Opening night for the 2018 Wild West Shootout played out much like the opener for last year’s IMCA Modified tour as Nick Trenchard topped Friday’s main event at Siskiyou Motor Speedway. The Oregon wheelman drew the pole and led every circuit, mastering lapped traffic as the feature stayed green following a lap 13 caution. Already on the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot, Trenchard was challenged several times but crossed the wire as the $1,000 winner ahead of Collen Winebarger, Bricen James, Ryan McDaniel and D.J. Shannon. The victory was Trenchard’s Wild West Tour career third. Teams from California, Oregon and Nevada as well as the Canadian province of British Columbia were represented in the Friday show. Thornton dominates $10,000 to win IMCA Clash at the Creek

By Mike Spieker FRANCIS CREEK, Wis. (June 21) – Ricky Thornton Jr. dominated Thursday’s IMCA Modified Clash at the Creek at 141 Speedway to earn the $10,000 payday. Already on the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot, Thornton led all 50 trips around the smooth and slick 1/3-mile dirt oval. The Clash did double duty as an Arnold Motor Supply Dirt Knights Tour event, the first such held outside Iowa. Eighty-two Modifieds were entered and seven states were represented in the main event. Thornton grabbed the lead from the pole on the opening lap as Mike Mullen filed into second. A gaggle of cars, including Hunter Marriott, Joel Rust, Kyle Stickler and Benji LaCrosse, raced for the final positions inside the top five. Deery Brothers Summer Series gets top billing at Benton County Fair show

VINTON, Iowa (June 22) – The Deery Brothers Summer Series makes a much anticipated return to Benton County Speedway next Thursday night. Touring IMCA Late Models race for $2,000 to win and a minimum of $300 to start the June 28 main event, which headlines the county fair show in Vinton. Pit gates and the grandstand open at 5 p.m. Hot laps are at 6:30 p.m. and racing begins at 7 p.m. The series has made just two previous visits to BCS, which can stake a claim to fame as the site of Darrel DeFrance’s first series win. The Marshalltown driver has competed at all 484 series events to date and captured that first victory at Vinton on July 14 of 1988. Wild West IMCA Modified Shootout opens at Siskiyou

By Ben Deatherage YREKA, Calif. – For the second straight occasion in the history of the Wild West Shootout, Siskiyou Motor Speedway will kick things off for the IMCA Modified Tour. Hosting the same honor in 2017, the Northern California ¼-mile oval will shred the clay on Friday, June 22 and is expected to have high car counts along with great racing. All eight Wild West Shootout features pay $1,000 to win, a minimum of $100 to start and are 2018 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying events. Hancock County reschedules Northern SportMod Nationals to July 10

BRITT, Iowa (June 19) – Chalk up a “W” for Mother Nature tonight in Britt. Due to rain, already wet track conditions and a less than stellar forecast, Hancock County Speedway’s Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod Nationals have been rescheduled to Tuesday, July 10. The MaxYield Seed-sponsored special pays $2,500 to win and a minimum of $300 to start. The evening’s IMCA Modified feature pays $1,000 to win and is both a Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot and Wehr’s Dash at the Harris Clash qualifier. Last lap is a wild one as Martens prevails at DCRP vs. URSS Sprint Car Nationals

(June 16) – Jake Martens survived a wild last lap to pocket more than $4,000 by winning Saturday’s Lubbock Wrecker Service DCRP vs. URSS 305 Sprint Car Nationals 30-lap championship feature at Dodge City Raceway Park. Martens took the lead away from Brian Herbert, then kept Chad Koch at bay before escaping a last-lap slider from Jake Bubak to pocket $4,040, an amount that included $1,040 in lap money along with the posted $3,000 IMCA RaceSaver Sprint car winner’s share. Martens raced to the stripe ahead of Koch and 15th starting Luke Cranston for the lucrative payday. Ward gets career fourth Greased Pig win

By Roger Williams AUBURN, Mich. (June 15) – The first race in the new dirt track era of Tri-City Motor Speedway took place in mid-June back in 2011. Each year, Tri-City commemorates the occasion with the annual Greased Pig special for the IMCA Modifieds. On Friday night, A.J. Ward won the event for the fourth time and earned $2,018. Chris Cohoon started on the pole and led the field to green flag but his night ended early because of mechanical problems. With Cohoon out, the lead was handed to Matt Szecsodi, who took advantage of a long green flag run and began to pull away from the field. However, with 31 laps down and 10 to go, a caution bunched up the field and put the ninth starting Ward and defending track champion Kody Johnson on Szecsodi’s rear bumper. By Jim Haines HAGERSTOWN, M.D. (June 16) – Ken Duke proved to finish first, you must first finish when 53 IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars converged at Hagerstown Speedway. The Saturday event was co-sanctioned by the Laurel Highlands Sprint Series, Pennsylvania Sprint Series and Virginia Sprint Series. Duke was running second but took the win after Jeff Miller fell out on the last lap. He led PASS point leader Zach Newlin and defending LHSS champion Scott Lutz across the stripe. Newlin and Ryan Lynn paced the field to the initial green with Newlin out first. Miller stayed close to the leader while Duke worked his way toward the front. Miller became the new leader on lap seven with Newlin holding off Drew Ritchey for second with Duke closing in. Miller was smooth out front while Duke took over second on the 16th circuit. FRANCIS CREEK, Wis. – A $10,000 top check is at stake when IMCA Modifieds travel to 141 Speedway for the history-making June 20 and 21 Clash at the Creek. The Clash doubles as the second installment of the Arnold Motor Supply Dirt Knights Tour and pays a minimum of $750 to start in the tour’s first-ever venture outside the State of Iowa.
