Disqualification leads to Kay’s career 22nd Deery Series win

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (June 6) – Justin Kay won for the 22nd time in his Deery Brothers Summer Series career Tuesday night at Marshalltown Speedway. The victory came in unique fashion for Kay, who was awarded the top spot when apparent winner Jeremiah Hurst was disqualified in post-race tech after a failed rear end inspection. John Emerson became runner-up and IMCA Late Model tour point leader Jesse Sobbing was third after starting 15th. Jeff Aikey and Jake Neal completed the top five. Neal had led the first half of the 50-lapper before giving way to Hurst. The last caution of the race came on lap 48. Kay is now tied with Gary Webb of Blue Grass for fifth on the all-time Deery Series career wins list. The ninth event of the 31st annual Deery Series is next Tuesday, June 13 at West Liberty Raceway. The Arnold Motor Supply Hawkeye Dirt Tour for IMCA Modifieds is on the same card. Shute’s late-night decision pays off with win in Arnold Motor Supply Hawkeye Dirt Tour

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (June 6) – The decision Todd Shute made right around midnight on Monday paid off with the Arnold Motor Supply Hawkeye Dirt Tour feature win Tuesday at Marshalltown Speedway. He was right there,” Shute said following his career 78th win in the division. “It was a very fun race but also very tense.” Shute passed Jimmy Gustin for the front spot on the sixth of 30 laps and denied Droste over the final 10 circuits. Droste ended in second, three car lengths off the pace. Kelly Shryock and 16th starting Darin Duffy closed late and were scored a very close third and fourth, respectively. Gustin, winner of the opening night event at Benton County Speedway on Memorial Day, was fifth. “We haven’t been very stellar this year. I think we changed just about everything we could on the car and didn’t actually decide until about midnight the night before that [Read More]

Now we’ve got one,” he said. “We’ve been right with these guys and it feels good to be able to get a win.” Sobbing started third and admittedly got a little anxious as he worked his way to the front of the field. “It seemed like once we got into the lead, around midway, there [Read More]
