Merv Chandler Memorial set July 5 at Hawkeye Downs

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – IMCA Mach-1 Sport Compacts take to the quarter-mile asphalt at Haw­keye Downs Speedway for the $2,000 to win Merv Chandler Memorial on Saturday, July 5. All IMCA rules apply for the inaugural event and there is no entry fee. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National and Allstar Performance State points will be awarded. SportMod Nationals resume July 4 at Hancock County

By Chad Meyer BRITT, Iowa (June 30) – Heavy rainfall prevented completion of the annual IMCA Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod Nationals on Thursday, June 26 at Hancock County Speedway in Britt. All main events were washed out in the storm. Persistent showers and clouds hampered track drying efforts on the scheduled Friday, June 27 rain date. All remaining feature events, including the 25-lap MaxYield Seed SportMod Nationals main event, will be run Friday, July 4 prior to regular weekly racing action. Hot laps begin at 7 p.m. with racing to follow. Twenty-eight cars are slated to start the SportMod Nationals finale. The winner of Hancock County Speedway’s MaxYield Seed Northern SportMod Nationals earns as much as $4,000 for his or her efforts. Salute to the king, fireworks on holiday schedule at Phillips County Raceway

HOLYOKE, Colo. – A salute to the king and plenty of fireworks accompany three IMCA series for Thursday, July 3 and Friday, July 4 Mid-Summer Nationals shows at Phillips County Raceway. PCR hosts the Salute to the King farewell tour, with Steve Kinser in Holyoke on opening night. Fireworks follow the Independence Day program. The Precise Racing BST Series for IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds, Addiction Chassis BST Series for IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and Leary Racing Products BST Series for Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods are in action both days, along with IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks. Cotton Bowl, HO’T shows bring curtain down on IMCA Lone Star Series

PAIGE, Texas – A fan appreciation night program and two Texas Nationals shows bring the curtain down on IMCA’s Lone Star Series. IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center Southern SportMods and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks are in action Thursday, July 3 at Cotton Bowl Speedway in Paige and Friday and Saturday, July 4 and 5 at Heart O’ Texas Speedway in Waco. Weather cancels opening night of Cottage Grove Modified Nationals

(June 27) – Unfortunately weather prevented the first night of the an­nual Modified Nationals from getting under way at the Cottage Grove Speedway on Friday June 27th. Saturday, June 28 is still on and will feature the Race Of Champions in the program. Also on the card will be the Northwest Extreme Sprints and Hornets. Pit gates open at 2 p.m., the grandstand opens at 4 p.m. and racing starts at 6:45 p.m. Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors, military and juniors ages 13-17, $5 for youths ages 6-12 and free for five and under. Marshalltown canceled June 27; next Friday is 50th anniversary celebration

By Jeremy Fox MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (June 27) – Mother Nature decided to rain out the races for tonight (Fri­day) at the Marshalltown Speedway on what was to have been Shawn’s Custom Hay Grinding Night. Marshalltown Speedway celebrates its golden anniversary next Friday, July 4. There will be a free luncheon from noon-1 p.m. and fans are invited to bring out old photos, memorabilia, and stories to share. Spectator admission for that evening’s race program will be $5 for adults and children 11 and un­der get in free on this special occasion. All retired past track champions and their families are in­vited to attend and receive complimentary grandstand admission. Cardinal’s Kelly Sheen Memorial guarantees big paydays in four IMCA divisions

EUNICE, N.M. (June 26) – Four IMCA divisions take their turn running for big paydays at Cardinal Speedway’s fifth annual Kelly Sheen Memorial Topless Shootout. Total purse for the Friday and Saturday, July 4 and 5 special is more than $20,000. As the name of the event implies, IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds and Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center Southern SportMods must remove all body panels above the deck, including the roof, sail panels and pillar posts. IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars run for $3,000 to win, Modifieds for $2,000, SportMods for $1,500 and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks for $500. FAIRMONT, Minn. (June 26) – IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds are in the running for $1,000 to win and a berth on the upcoming Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot Friday at Fairmont Raceway.
