IMCA Desert Classic this weekend at Canyon Speedway Park

By Lonnie Wheatley PEORIA, Ariz. – The 1/3-mile Canyon Speedway Park clay oval is back in action for two full nights this weekend with the running of the 26th annual IMCA Desert Classic on Friday and Satur­day, Sept. 19 and 20. IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds will take center stage, battling it out for $1,500 to win both nights with the pure stocks, renegades, dwarf cars and AMA Mod Lites in action as well. After having his seven-race win streak snapped on the opening night of the recent Stock Car Shootout on Aug. 30, Ricky Thornton, Jr., will try to get to work on another win streak after top­ping the IMCA Modified feature the next night. IMCA Modified feature pays $3,000 to win at Estevan’s Race for Life special

ESTEVAN, Sask. – IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds will race for $3,000 to win at Estevan Motor Speedway’s Saturday, Sept. 20 Race for Life special. Sponsored by Kevin Lisafeld and Airseeder Hopper, the special also pays $1,300 to win for IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and $700 to win for IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks. All applicable points except for local track points will be awarded. The Modified feature is a qualifying event for the 2015 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. Pit gates open at noon and the grandstand opens at 1 p.m. Hot laps are at approximately 2 p.m. and racing starts at 3 p.m. Car and driver is $25; pit passes are $20. Saturday show at Davenport next for Deery Series

DAVENPORT, Iowa– The track that hosted the first tour event of the season is the site for the next Deery Brothers Summer Series date. Touring IMCA Late Models return to Davenport Speedway this Saturday, Sept. 20 for a $3,000 to win, minimum $300 to start the show on the half-mile dirt oval. IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods, street stocks and 4-Stocks complete the card. Andy Eckrich of Oxford was the winner in the series lidlifter on April 11. Davenport has hosted 22 previous Deery Series events. Jeff Aikey of Cedar Falls is a six-time winner there. Pit gates open at 4:30 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 5:30 p.m. Saturday. MAYETTA, Kan. – Feature events for four IMCA divi­sions are slated each night of Thun­der Hill Speedway’s Friday and Saturday, Sept. 19-20 Thun­der On The Hill Special. IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified features pay $2,000 to win, a mini­mum of $200 to start, and are qualifying events for the 2015 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. Soares memorial service, celebration of life will be Sept. 14

PETALUMA, Calif. – Racers, sponsors, friends and fans are invited to a memorial service and celebration of life for Jim Soares this Sunday, Sept. 14 beginning at 2 p.m. in the Petaluma Speedway grandstands. Soares, 68, died Sunday, Sept. 7. He had promoted Petaluma and Merced Speedway. After the eulogy, anyone who would like to share a story or anecdote about Soares is invited to do so; anyone with a picture or memento is also encouraged to bring it for display. A catered barbeque will follow the service in the Sonoma-Marin Fairgrounds outdoor covered dining area located next to Herzog Hall. Side dishes would be appreciated. The front gate to the fairgrounds will be open so folks may come in behind the grandstand. The pit area will also be open. BILLINGS, Mont. (Sept. 9) – A pair of $1,000 to win features for IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds are on the card this weekend at Billings Motorsports Park. Both Friday, Sept. 12 and Saturday, Sept. 13 Rebel Run races are 2015 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifiers and pay a minimum of $100 to start. BOONE, Iowa (Aug. 26) – The first champion of the 2014 IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s will be crowned on opening night of America’s Racin’ Vacation at Boone Speedway. The Monday, Sept. 1 main event for IMCA Late Models following the Deery Brothers Summer Series will be 50 laps, with a potential top prize of $4,500 and a minimum of $300 paid to start. Super Nationals tech inspection and other information

Tech inspection precedes practice, Sunday Night Tailgate BOONE, Iowa – Tech inspection, an open practice session, some music and a pretty awesome party are planned for Sunday, Aug. 31, the night before the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nation­als fueled by Casey’s get underway at Boone Speedway. A new tech inspection process has been announced for the 32nd annual event and beginning at 9 a.m. Sunday, drivers will receive tech inspection sheets and inspection group cards at the tech inspection trailer on a first-come, first-served basis. Drivers will be called over the PA system to the lineup board for staging and then sent to the inspec­tion area in groups; drivers are encouraged to go to the tech trailer and get their inspection sheets and cards as soon as they and their race cars arrive at the speedway.
