Armed with fast car, high aspirations, Childs starts with three straight Sport Compact wins

WEATHERFORD, Texas – Folks were telling Julia Childs she had a fast car before the season started. She proved them right by winning the Mach-1 Sport Compact opener at Boyd Raceway on March 13. After a rainout, the Weatherford High School sophomore won March 27 and April 3 starts at the same speedplant. “It was pretty neat. I was on a roll,” said Childs, who finished third despite a broken tie rod her next night out. “I was hoping I could make it four wins in a row. That didn’t happen but three straight wins was a big accomplishment.” A top five finisher in a dozen of her 21 starts last year as a rookie, Childs was runner-up to car builder and crewman Brant Bachman in the Boyd point standings. Getting that career first feature win was goal number one for 2015 and she didn’t take long to achieve it, leading every lap and taking the checkers three car lengths ahead of her closest challenger. “I got really nervous when I saw that there were [Read More]

Bonine trades paint late, still leaves Raceway Park with top IMCA Modified check

By Bob Coney JEFFERSON, S.D. (April 11) – After trading some paint, Matt Bonine took home the big check from Saturday’s season-opening Spring Nationals at Raceway Park. Bob Moore, Jim Cole and early leader Jim Thies completed the top five. Shawn Primrose kept five-time defending track champion Jason Ward in check for the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car win. Jim Hall was third. Karl Brewer dominated the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod feature, taking the win over Rusty Montange and Kirk Beatty. Former IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock track champion John Cain got his year off to a fast start by powering around early leader Jon Androy en route to the feature victory. Sites starts promising season with Empire State Series win at Five Mile

KIRKWOOD, N.Y. (April 12) – Eddie Sites likes the start of his 2015 a lot more than he does his 2013 or 2014 campaigns. Sites won Sunday’s opening event for IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds following the Empire State Series at Five Mile Point Speedway. The victory paid $400 and came ahead of Jared Spalding and Jason Benjamin. Gary Smith and K.C. Cole completed the top five. Sites had started third, passed Mike Stoddard and Matt Cole on the second circuit, then led to the end of the 25-lapper. After seeing a comfortable lead erased by a lap 23 caution, he took the checkers two car lengths ahead of Spalding. “It rubbered up but I didn’t have any trouble getting around the track,” Sites said. “I had a pretty good car. This was the best race I’ve had in a long time.” “I won this series two years in a row (in 2011 and 2012) but haven’t raced much the last two seasons,” he continued. “In 2013 we had a lot of parts failures, some [Read More]

Seymour becomes site of 1st, 200th wins for Snellenberger

PULASKI, Wis. (April 11) – That big sigh of relief you heard from victory lane at Seymour Speedway came from Rod Snellenberger. Snellenberger won for the 200th time in his IMCA Sunoco Stock Car career Saturday evening, holding off Brandon Czarapata by the narrowest of margins. “It was a relief to get it this early in the season. Everyone has been asking me how soon I thought I’d get the win,” the Pulaski driver said following his second start of 2015. “My mom and dad got back last week from spending the winter down south and were there to see me win, so that meant a lot to me.” Snellenberger counts the 2008 national championship, seven Allstar Performance State and 14 local track titles among his IMCA achievements. Czarapata, twice a national champion with 100-plus wins of his own, made him work to complete the latest accomplishment. After starting from the pole, Snellenberger caught Kyle Frederick for the lead six laps in. Czarapata, meanwhile, made his way up from mid-pack to challenge for the front and [Read More]

WEST LIBERTY, Iowa (April 11) – Justin Kay got back in the groove Saturday at West Liberty Raceway. Foulger first in epic Antioch battle

ANTIOCH, Calif. (April 4) – Troy Foulger and Michael Paul Jr. waged a side-by-side battle that lasted half the feature in IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified racing Saturday at Antioch Speedway. “The track was perfect – with two grooves to make it a great race – I had so much fun,” Foulger said after having Paul, Jr. outside his passenger window lap after lap, with no chance to pass him. “I finally figured if I open up the straightaway, it would help me when I entered the corner.” Foulger, who started sixth, got by Paul and went on to the checkered flag. “It was a good race – but it would have been better if I won,” Paul laughed. “My car was loose (handling) and his was better. Troy just got under me and would not let go.” Paul studied the track to maintain his advantage. His car being loose meant he wanted to stay out of the driest groove on the race track. “I was hunting for moisture, looking for any part of the [Read More]
