Sprint foes at Hagerstown can’t keep up with Jones

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (April 20) – Jonathon Jones wasn’t sure he would make the trip to Hager­stown Speedway until Saturday morning, but he sure made it worthwhile by topping the field of 23 IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars for the win that evening.

Christian Rumsey challenged but ran out of laps and settled for second in the main event, co-sanc­tioned by the Virginia Sprint Series and Laurel Highland Sprint Series. 

Tyler Denochick and Jones paced the feature field to green. Jones stayed up high and that would be the magic line as he kept his car smooth and fast with Rumsey quickly challenging for second.

Rumsey lost that spot to Drew Ritchey for a few laps before regaining the position and set off af­ter Jones. Denochick and Ryan Lynn had a long-term battle for fourth as most other positions continued to change throughout the field.  

Rumsey reeled in Jones as the laps counted down but couldn’t catch up before the checkers flew.

Ritchey was third with Denochick and Lynn rounding out the top five. 

Next, the Laurel Highlands Sprint Series will try again Friday, April 26 at Clinton County Motor Speedway after two rainouts in a row to start the season at the Lock Haven, Pa., speedplant.

The Virginia Sprint Series is back at Shenandoah Speedway on Saturday, April 27.

Harris hustles to Hagerstown IMCA RaceSaver win

By Jim Haines HAGERSTOWN, Md. (April 20, 2024) – Jerald Harris finished the race right where he started it: At the front. Harris led the distance of Saturday’s IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car main event at Hagerstown Speedway, in the first of five races at the Maryland oval co-sanctioned by the Virginia Sprint Series and Laurel Highland Sprint Series. After running second in his heat, Harris and Jay Fry paced the 25-car field to green with Harris out first before Fry got too high in the loose stuff and spun to a stop. On the second start, Harris was out again with Dylan Shatzer now in second followed by Caleb Harris, John Scarborough and Ben Miklos. Hubbard smokes foes for Virginia Sprint Series win

(Sept. 25) – Billy Hubbard raced to the front like a cat with its tail on fire, then paced his right rear tire which he had smoking hard to the finish for his third Virginia Sprint Series feature win of the year Saturday at Shenandoah Speedway.  Matt Mullins and Chris Ware were on the front row as the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car event went green with Mullins out first and Ware moving to the bottom. Jerald Harris was making a quick trip up high to the front right away and by lap two he was on Mullins and going by for the lead. With Harris out front and looking strong, Mike Leraas made it to second and was chipping away at the lead with Hubbard working through the field to third. Spahr sprints to Hagerstown win

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (June 17, 2023) – Already a six-time winner in Pennsylvania Sprint Series action this season, Logan Spahr became a first-time winner in two other IMCA RaceSaver series Saturday night. Spahr collected the checkers at Hagerstown Speedway in the event co-sanctioned by the Virginia Sprint Series, Laurel Highlands Sprint Series and PASS. The annual meeting of the three series was another great event with 43 cars checking in. Michael Alleman and Ken Duke paced the field to green with Alleman out first and right away joined by Austin Reed. Duke and the front group swapped the lead every lap. Alleman was fast on the bottom while Reed stayed to the top. Spahr showed up and moved to second as Reed started to fade with mechanical problems but Duke was right there to take up the charge.
