Kendall collects second straight Northstar IMCA Modified Tour win

BRAINERD, Minn. (Aug. 11) – Billy Kendall’s second Northstar IMCA Modified Tour victory in as many nights put a second $1,000 check in his pocket. Kendall drew the pole Saturday night for the main event at his home track North Central Speedway and duplicated his winning run Friday at Princeton, leading all 30 laps. The only caution of the contest came on lap two. Kendall was quickly through lapped traffic and won by a straightaway ahead of defending national champion Jason Wolla. “We’ve been lucky to start on the front row two nights in a row but it was another good, solid night for us,” said Kendall, who’d put his name on the 2019 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot with the Friday checkers. “This is the first time this season we’ve won on back-to-back nights. This was definitely the weekend to do it.” “The track was amazing tonight,” added Kendall, who lives minutes away from the Brainerd oval and started his racing career there. “You could run low, middle, high, anywhere on it.” Wolla had [Read More]

Kendall prevails at Princeton in Northstar IMCA Mod Tour opener

PRINCETON, Minn. (Aug. 10) – A driver who’s seen some wins get away from him got a big one Friday at Princeton Speedway. Billy Kendall led all 30 laps of the Northstar IMCA Modified Tour lidlifter, beating Brandon Beckendorf in the race for the $1,000 checkers and 2019 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot berth. “It feels good,” Kendall said following his first Princeton victory of the season. “We’ve been struggling to get wins this season and it seems like we’ve had a lot of seconds. The car was tight in the heat but it was perfect on the berm in the feature.” Kendall drew the outside row one start and quickly jumped out to a big lead. He’d maneuvered through and around lapped traffic before almost getting too high and opening the door for Larry Zeller with six circuits to go. After righting the ship, Kendall outran the hard-charging Brandon Beckendorf for the win. Zeller, 12th starting Clint Hatlestad and Shawn Fletcher completed the top five. Beckendorf, currently runner-up in the national point standings, had [Read More]
