
Gustin motors to Marshalltown World Nationals win
By Joyce Eisele MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (Sept. 14-15) – Richie Gustin took the lead at the drop of the green and 50 laps later took home the biggest share of green from Marshalltown Speedway’s 12th annual World Nationals. Gustin outran Jordan Grabouski for Saturday’s $10,000 IMCA Modified payday. The outside pole starter was fast from the onset, getting the lead back after Grabouski enjoyed a brief stay at the front of the field, and then pulling away after the final restart with two laps to go. Already on the ballot for the 2019 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational, Gustin got the victory ahead of Grabouski, Cayden Carter, Tim Ward and former World Nationals winner Benji LaCrosse. Terry Phillips, who’d won ahead of Gustin at last year’s World Nationals, was sixth. Friday night feature winners at Marshalltown were Jeff Mueller in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, Chanse Hollatz in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Austin Luellen in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods.
