Gustin motors to Marshalltown World Nationals win

By Joyce Eisele MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (Sept. 14-15) – Richie Gustin took the lead at the drop of the green and 50 laps later took home the biggest share of green from Marshalltown Speedway’s 12th annual World Nationals. Gustin outran Jordan Grabouski for Saturday’s $10,000 IMCA Modified payday. The outside pole starter was fast from the onset, getting the lead back after Grabouski enjoyed a brief stay at the front of the field, and then pulling away after the final restart with two laps to go. Already on the ballot for the 2019 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational, Gustin got the victory ahead of Grabouski, Cayden Carter, Tim Ward and former World Nationals winner Benji LaCrosse. $10,000 is top prize for IMCA Modifieds at Marshalltown World Nationals

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (Sept. 10) – Marshalltown Speedway wraps up 2018 with one of the top-paying events for IMCA Modifieds of the season. The $10,000 to win World Nationals special is Thursday through Saturday, Sept. 13-15. The 12th annual event is a qualifier for the 2019 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. MCA Sunoco Stock Cars and Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods race for $1,000 to win while IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks race for $500 to win both Friday, Sept. 14 and Saturday, Sept. 15. Qualifying starts on Friday for the Modifieds. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, regional and Allstar Performance State points will be awarded. Tow money for the Modifieds is $250. Eckrich outruns Deery pack for Marshalltown checkers

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (June 5) – After he kept the pack behind him, Andy Eckrich picked up the top check from Marshalltown Speedway’s Steve Priske Miller Lite 50 Deery Brothers Summer Series show. Eckrich led the last 48 of 50 laps in earning the $2,000 victory Tuesday night and pocketed another $400 in bonus money from Rumours Bar and Grill for winning his heat and the main event. “We got going pretty early but I figured the pack of wolves would be coming,” said Eckrich, who set sail after the final caution came out on the 14th circuit. “I got into traffic around lap 30 and with six to go caught up with four lapped cars that were racing hard. It took a while to get by them.” Point leader Justin Kay started 12th and chased Eckrich across the stripe, but didn’t get close enough to challenge. Miller Lite 50 at Marshalltown next for Deery Series

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa – IMCA Late Models following the Deery Brothers Summer Series make their annual mid-week visit to Marshalltown Speedway next Tuesday, June 5. The Steve Priske Miller Lite 50 pays $2,000 to win and a minimum of $300 to start. Rumours Bar and Grill pays $200 to each heat winner, plus another $200 to any driver who can win both their heat and the main event. Pit gates open at 4:30 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 5 p.m. Hot laps are at 7 p.m. with racing to follow. Dolan, Phillips top Dale DeFrance Memorial headliners at Marshalltown

By Joyce Eisele MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (May 10) – Ryan Dolan raced his way into the history book as the IMCA Late Model winner at Marshalltown Speedway’s inaugural Dale DeFrance Memorial. Dolan led all but the opening circuit in the 44-lapper and earned $1,500 for the Thursday night victory. Todd Cooney got the jump out front, early before relinquishing the top spot to Dolan, who maneuvered his way around the shiny blackened track skillfully throughout the entire race, slicing through lap traffic easily to take the win. Kyle Hinrichs drew close to Dolan at times, but in end was a distant runner-up. Cooney held on to third place, Jeremiah Hurst came from 12th to finish in fourth and Darrel DeFrance was fifth. Rust, Thornton hustle to $1,000 High Banks wins

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (April 26-27) – Joel Rust hustled his way to the $1,000 checkers Thursday night at Marshalltown Speedway. Ricky Thornton Jr. did the same on Friday. Rust and Thornton were IMCA Modified winners at Marshalltown’s season-opening Twin High Banks Hustle. While Thornton was already on the ballot, Rust’s victory made him vote eligible for the upcoming Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. After drawing the outside pole, Rust had to hold off Hunter Marriott late in the contest. Ninth starting Tyler Droste, Tim Ward and Ethan Dotson completed the top five. Thornton went from last on Thursday to first in the Friday feature, leading every lap and winning ahead of Marriott, Cayden Carter, Kyle Brown and Richie Gustin. MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa – A pair of $1,000 to win Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying features for IMCA Modifieds are on Twin Highbanks Hustle cards this Thursday and Friday, April 26 and 27. IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods run for $500 to win, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks for $300 to win both nights. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, regional and Iowa State points will be given each night with track points at stake as well on Friday. Marshalltown postpones World Nationals

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa – Track conditions and a less than promising weather forecast have forced Marshalltown Speedway track officials to postpone the $10,000 to win World Nationals special for IMCA Modifieds from this weekend to Sept. 13-15. The event will now be a qualifier for the 2019 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. The first race of 2018 at Marshalltown is now the April 6 Frostbuster, featuring IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks. The same four divisions run at Frostbusters April 4 at Lee County Speedway in Donnellson, April 5 at Benton County Speedway in Vinton and April 7 at Boone Speedway.
