Thornton sets tone with Night of 1,000 Stars feature win

BRITT, Iowa (Aug. 8) – At halfway, Ricky Thornton Jr. had to be wondering if fuel issues were going to resurface and knock him out of the running. But at the end of Hancock County Speedway’s 25th annual IMT Transport Night of 1,000 Stars feature for IMCA Modifieds Thursday night, Thornton was standing in victory lane with another tall tro­phy and a check for $4,500. Thornton caught Benji LaCrosse for the front spot just five laps before the mandatory front stretch pit­stop on lap 25. IMCA Modified stars will shine at Aug. 8-10 Hancock County Speedway specials

BRITT, Iowa – The stars of the IMCA Modified galaxy shine on three consecutive rich nights of racing at Hancock County Speedway. The Night of 1,000 Stars on Thursday, Aug. 8 pays a guaranteed $3,500 to win and $250 to start, plus a bonus of $1,000 to the leader at halfway and another $1,000 if the winner has perfect attendance at Britt this season. Winning the Night of 10,000 Stars on Friday, Aug. 9 pays $7,000, plus $1,000 bonuses to the halfway leader, for perfect attendance and for having won on Thursday as well. A minimum of $300 will be paid to start that main event.  And the Saturday, Aug. 10 Bob Shryock Memorial All Stars pays $3,000 to win and a minimum of $250 to start.  Thirty cars start three-wide in 50-lap main events on Thursday and Friday. Return to Hancock County, Hobo 100 win result in career-best payday for Cornelius

BRITT, Iowa (July 26) – Dean Cornelius came to Britt Friday night with the same setup that had put him in Hancock County Speedway’s victory lane in May. He left town with the Hobo 100 IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature win and a career-best payday of $4,300. Curt Lund made it a back-and-forth battle before Cornelius regained the upper hand. Jake Mas­ters challenged late but couldn’t catch the leader before the checkers flew at the end of the cau­tion-free 25-lapper. “I was faster off turn four,” Cornelius said of the duel with Masters. “I knew I’d be all right if I didn’t make a mistake and just kept doing what I was doing.” Cornelius had started fourth and passed Ned Kalis and then Lund for the lead. Gustin wins, Hibdon impresses in Britt Arnold Motor Supply Dirt Knights feature

BRITT, Iowa (July 23) – Richie Gustin equaled an Arnold Motor Supply Dirt Knights Tour record with his third straight victory Tuesday at Hancock County Speedway. Kollin Hibdon, meanwhile, turned heads with his runner-up finish in the IMCA Modified headliner at Britt. Gustin passed travel partner and race-long leader Hibdon on the 26th circuit, then led the last five laps to take the $1,500 checkers ahead of the youngster from Nevada, Jeremy Mills, Kyle Brown and Travis Hatcher.  Hibdon had started from the pole, Gustin from inside row two. The front pair were five seconds ahead of their nearest pursuit by lap 10. Gustin used the middle line to take the lead in traffic and pulled away for his tour career-leading 11th win. IMCA Stock Cars chase $4,000 check at Hancock County’s Hobo 100

BRITT, Iowa – IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars chase a $4,000 top check at Hancock County Speed­way’s Friday, July 26 Hobo 100.  Rounding out the card are IMCA Modifieds vying for $1,000 to win and a berth on the 2020 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot, while Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods run for $750 to win, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks for $500 to win and Mach-1 Sport Compacts for $200 to win.  IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, regional and E3 Spark Plugs Iowa State points will be awarded at the draw/redraw show. Logue finds answers, $2,500 feature win at Hancock County’s SportMod Nationals

BRITT, Iowa (June 25) – One win in his first 19 starts of the season had Johnathon Logue looking for answers.  He found them Tuesday night at Hancock County Speedway’s MaxYield Seed SportMod Nationals.  Logue won his heat, the dash and the Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod main event, earning $2,700 in all for his efforts. “My car was very, very good,” said Logue, whose one previous victory this year had also been at Britt, on June 7. “It seems like we’ve been on the trouble bus with it all season. To be able to run as well as we did made it a fun night.” Brayton Carter, Jared Boumeester, Jake McBirnie and Jim Chisholm completed the top five across the stripe in the $2,500 to win feature. WEST BEND, Iowa – The IMCA Northern SportMod Nationals will return to Hancock County Speed­way in Britt for the 2019 season. MaxYield Seed is once again the title sponsor of the event, which will be held on Tuesday, June 18 in partnership with DeKalb/Asgrow, LG Seeds, Latham Hi-Tech Seeds, and Croplan by Winfield. The winner of this year’s 30-lap feature for Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods will take home $2,500 guaranteed. Shryock Memorial checkers give Marriott another Hancock County special event win

BRITT, Iowa (Aug. 11) – Following his latest visit to victory lane at Hancock County Speedway, Hunter Marriott could lay claim to a singular achievement. Marriott topped Saturday’s Bob Shryock Memorial All Star event, a fast-paced IMCA Modified 40-lapper that ran green to checkered and paid $3,000 to win.
