Holloway tops Stock feature at RPM

(Aug. 24) – With just two regular season races left on the schedule at RPM Speedway in Hays, KS, the points race is still up for grabs and drivers battled for position on Saturday evening August 24. It was also the Greg Close Memorial Race with the Close family awarding $50 to a Hard Charger and a $50 mystery position in all five divisions. The Advantage Glass Plus IMCA Stock Car feature went 20 caution-free laps with Shaylon Holloway leading from green to checkers to make his first trip to victory lane at Hays this year. Jeff Tubbs finished second, with Jason Davis, B.J. Wagoner and Jason Rogers completing the top five. Nolan Remus claimed the mystery position award. Dart wins Modified main, Tebon repeats early as titlist

(Aug. 24) – Todd Dart inherited the lead of the IMCA Modified feature on lap eight and went on to score his second feature win of the season at Thunderhill Raceway Saturday evening. Greg Gretz jumped to the lead, outpacing James Tebon on the opening lap. Gretz held the top spot, running the cushion as Dart worked low. Just before the midway contest, Gretz suffered mechanical issues, handing the lead over to Dart. A pit crew challenge was issued and right after midway, all the drivers headed to pit lane where they had to change one tire. Each driver pitched in $20 for whoever had the fastest stop and that honor went to Billy LeMieux’s crew. As the race restarted, Dart checked out, going unchallenged the remainder of the contest. By placing second, Tebon earned enough points to clinch his second Modified championship a week early. LeMieux, Scott Ratajczak and Gretz completed the top five. Cassell triumphant In Modified Tribute To Clair

(Aug. 24) – It was a great night of racing at Willamette Speedway Saturday evening as the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds were back in action for the prestigious Modified Tribute To Clair, an event dedicated to the late longtime owner and operator of the historic 1/3-mile oval, Clair Arnold. 2013 has been Craig Cassell’s year. The longtime crew chief for several top flight Late Model and Modified teams captured his third victory by leading the entire distance of the Modified Tribute To Clair. When Cassell put his mount in the winner’s circle he became the fourth different winner in as many years of the “Tribute To Clair” event. Trevor Glaser survived the DIRTcar Super Late Model main event to win pick up win number 11 of his 2013 season at Willamette. Gil Pickett won the caution-filled Super Sport feature.

Champions crowned at Eagle

By Greg Soukup EAGLE, Neb. (Aug. 24) – Dylan Smith got the Kaplan University IMCA Modified feature win along with his second straight track title Saturday at Eagle Raceway. Smith took over the front position with nine laps down. Mike Densberger passed Nathan Landauer on the low side for second with two laps left and Chris Ableson got past Landauer on the final circuit for third. Jason Martin won the IMCA Eagle Motorsports RaceSaver Sprint Car feature for the second straight week while runner-up Mike Boston secured his career seventh track title. Martin moved to the lead on lap nine. Boston settled into second for good on lap 14. Shawn Harker held on for the NAPA IMCA Northern SportMod victory with Joe Feyen, Dan Kovar and Benji Legg second through fourth. Gary Saaathoff ended in 11th and won his second championship. Charles rumbles to first feature win of season at Thunder Hill

By Bill Grit MAYETTA, Kan. (Aug. 24) – Tom Charles made his first trip to victory lane following the BSB Manufacturing IMCA Modified main event Saturday at Thunder Hill Speedway. Charles started from the third row outside and by the fourth lap was out in front. He was challenged by Kurt Johnston several times but was not to be denied. Johnston was the runner-up while Mike Petersilie put on a valiant effort after being put to the rear twice, passing more cars than any other driver on the track to end in third. Travis Burger held on for the Kansas National Guard IMCA Hobby Stock win with Kelly Pihl, Tyler Garst, Mallory Stiffler and Bill McConnaughy making up the top five. Four first-time winners at Algona

By Greg Grabianowski ALGONA, Iowa (Aug. 24) – Rob Hughes, John Wiemann, Doug Wickman and Jay DeVries all won features at Algona Raceway for the first time in 2013 to highlight the night of dirt track racing on Saturday, Aug. 24. The most dramatic race of the night came in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod feature. Mike Carlson started on the pole and grabbed the early lead before an early challenge from Phil Ricke as two went door-to-door for two laps. The only caution of the race waved on lap six. George Nordman, who started 11th, weaved his way into contention for the final five laps to put the heat on Carlson. Nordman patiently stayed behind Carlson until turn two on the final lap when he slid past on the bottom of the track and went on to the victory. Carlson was second with Nick Meyer placing third. Veterans lead race to Modified checkers at Winston

By Rick Staley WINSTON, Mo. (Aug. 24) – Veteran drivers r0se to the top three spots in the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified feature Saturday at I-35 Speedway in Winston. Jim Cameron made it two feature wins in as many weeks as he drove the Steve Starmer-prepared no. 96c to victory circle. Buz Kaster made his way through the pack to place second while fellow veteran Johnny McGinnis ran an impressive third. Point leader Steven Glenn worked the high line to fourth with John Hanson finishing fifth. Bruce Fair held the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car lead until the last turn of the last lap as point leader Dean Wray edged past by a fender at the line to finish. Ward wins first at Skyline

CORTLAND, N.Y. (Aug. 24) – Craig Ward earned his first career victory at Skyline Raceway in Saturday’s 20-lap IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified feature Working the high side of the speedway to perfection, Ward held off repeated challenges from championship contenders Kevan Cook and Chris Fleming to earn his first feature win. Cook mounted a last lap challenge to Ward but came up just short, finishing a solid second. Fleming drove to a third place finish, one spot behind Cook, meaning that the track championship will be decided next week. Bumps Scutt and Dan Searls finished fourth and fifth, respectively.

Sean Jerovetz earns top payday, spot in point standings at Oshkosh

OSHKOSH, Wis. (Aug. 23) – The bonus that Sean Jerovetz got along with a big payday at Oshkosh Speedzone’s George Scheffler Memorial was sole possession of the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified point lead. Jerovetz turned back repeated challenges by Marcus Yarie after the pair ran side-by-side for a dozen laps of the Friday night feature. In addition to the $1,000 top prize and a berth of the ballot for the 2014 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational, Jerovetz also gained a five point advantage over cousin Troy heading into the final weekly show of the season. Brian Mullen, Benji LaCrosse and Mitch McGrath were next to the checkers. Eric Scribner sat on the pole for the 20-lap contest but it was Speedzone regular John Schultz taking the lead on the opening lap. Hobby checkers fly for Moede at Luxemburg

By Greg Aregoni LUXEMBURG, Wis. (Aug. 23) – A caution on lap two was the only halt to Derek Moede’s drive to the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock checkers at Luxemburg Speedway. Dean Anhalt led the opening lap before giving way to Moede. Dan Van Pay worked in behind the leader on the third lap and kept the pressure while allowing Scott Boulanger to join the fun. Van Pay and Boulanger exchanged racing lines and positions over the final half of the race. Each took their stab at Moede but were unsuccessful. Moede picked up the win and will carry a two point advantage over Van Pay heading into the Aug. 30 season championships. Van Pay beat Boulanger to the checkered flag. Anhalt and Sawyer Haese rounded out the top five.
