Marriott becomes 10th, final XSAN Hawkeye Dirt Tour winner

FARLEY, Iowa (Sept. 13) – Hunter Marriott enjoyed more dividends from a season devoted largely to competing at IMCA’s top events Saturday night. Marriott became the 10th different winner in as many XSAN Hawkeye Dirt Tour events this season, earning $2,000 for his checkered flag efforts in the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified series finale at Farley Speedway. The victory came during the Yankee Dirt Track Classic and put Marriott on the ballot for the 2015 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. “I really didn’t think we were that good from the get-go,” admitted Marriott, who started sixth, took the lead before halfway and beat 24th starting Troy Cordes across the stripe by a comfortable margin. “But I changed my line right before the first caution on lap 10 and just kept turning it up.” Cordes had taken a provisional and started 24th; Cayden Carter, Brian Mullen and Scott Hogan completed the top five in the 40-lapper. North Star Series checkers fly for five, Benson best in Arlington Sprint tour field

ARLINGTON, Minn. (Sept 13) – Six drivers won IMCA special events features Saturday at Arlington Raceway. Redline Racing Parts North Star Series victories went to Brandon Beckendorf in the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds, Dan Mackenthun in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, Eric Larson in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods, Justin Luinenburg in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Nate Coopman in the Mach-1 Sport Compacts. Clint Benson made another long tow from Nebraska pay off with the RaceSaver Sprint Series of Minnesota triumph. Chad Porter had the early lead in the Modified feature but on the fifth lap, Beckendorf got around him and led the remaining 15 laps. Another year older and $7,500 richer, Callahan repeats Yankee Deery win

FARLEY, Iowa (Sept. 14) – Joel Callahan finished the Yankee Dirt Track Classic Deery Series main event at Farley Speedway a year older and $7,500 richer. The 100-lap IMCA Late Model tour event started late Saturday evening and finished in the wee hours on Sunday. Callahan, who figured he turned 50 somewhere around lap 27, inherited the front spot when race-long leader Colby Springsteen cut his right rear tire and then led to the checkers in repeating as the big money Yankee winner. “I think we step up our game for this race. Stallbaumer clinches Thunder Hill Modified crown

MAYETTA, Kan. (Sept. 13) – Bumper to Bumper Auto Parts and Wix Filters Championship Night at Thunder Hill Speedway brought an end to the 2014 point season. At the end of the night, champions were crowned in each of the IMCA divisions. In the BSB Manufacturing IMCA Modifieds, Mat Stallbaumer took the lead and a 29-point cushion. All he had to do was compete in this heat race to win the championship. Stallbaumer locked up the championship and moved on to the main event where there was a dominating performance by a former track and national champion. Jordan Grabouski brought a new car to Thunder Hill Speedway. As a matter of fact he didn’t even have any numbers on it, only a plain black car rolled out onto the track. Humphries cruises to Sprint Series win at Eastside

By Jim Haines WAYNESBORO, Va. (Sept. 12) – Tom Humphries won the final Fast Friday event of the year at Eastside Speedway to close out the dirt schedule for the Virginia Sprint Series. The IMCA Eagle Motorsports RaceSaver Sprint Car tour win was Humphries’ fourth this season. Chris Ware and Anthony Linkenhoker paced the field to green and Linkenhoker was out first with Brian Lawson and Humpries already on the way by lap one. Humphries was by Lawson on lap three and all over Linkenhoker by lap seven. Humphries saw a gap with the rear of the field coming up and shot through into the lead, then cruised to the win. Linkenhoker, Lawson, Ryan Price and Daren Bolac completed the top five. Wakeeney Speedway crowns track champions

By Mike Hughes WaKEENEY, Kan. (Sept.14) – WaKeeney (KS) Speedway wrapped up the 2014 racing season Sunday night with the regular five classes in action. Point leader Kyle Rohleder led all 20 caution-free laps in the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified feature to capture his second win of the season and the track championship. Dylan Sherfick gave chase the entire race but had to settle for second. Clay Sellard was third, followed by Nate Moore and Chris Heim. The 20-lap IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature saw track champion Jeff Tubbs jump out to the lead. Then as the field came to the halfway mark, Jason Rogers of Selden passed Tubbs on the outside in turn four to take the lead and drive on to win his third Wakeeney feature this year. Huls, Phillips, Abbot capture season championship night wins at Quincy

(Sept. 14) – Abe Huls put on a dominating performance in the Powder Coat Plus IMCA Stock Car season championship feature Sunday at Quincy Raceway, as he pulled away from the field to take the win and the track title as well. Following Huls to the checkered flag were Jake Powers, Brandon Savage, Jerry Jansen and William Dahl. Patrick Phillips grabbed the lead on the second lap of the Summy Tire and Auto Center IMCA Northern SportMod main event and held off all challenges to capture his first feature win. Convincingly, Kay repeats as national IMCA Late Model champion

VINTON, Iowa (Sept. 12) – At the rate he’s going, Justin Kay won’t have to make room in the trophy case. He’ll have to build another one. On the strength of a division record 24 feature wins, Kay repeated as IMCA’s national Late Model champion. He earns a $5,500 share of a $21,300 point fund to be paid to top 20 finishers in national standings that become official on Sept. 29. From Wheatland, Kay finished with the maximum possible 820 points, a dozen more than runner-up Todd Cooney of Des Moines. “We raced more this year and got a lot of wins early,” said Kay, who received 20 bonus points as champion at Dubuque Speedway and also paced the points at Davenport Speedway. “It seemed like we couldn’t do anything wrong at Dubuque. Friday Deery at Farley rained out, Saturday show is still on

FARLEY, Iowa (Sept. 12) – Tonight’s Yankee Dirt Track Classic program, including the Deery Brothers Summer Series show, at Farley Speedway has been rained out. The Friday event for touring IMCA Late Models will not be rescheduled. Saturday’s program is still on as scheduled, headlined by a $7,500 to win, minimum $500 to start Deery Series feature. IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds following the XSAN Hawkeye Dirt Tour race for $2,000 to win on Saturday. Entry fee for the Late Models is $100 and all pit passes are $35. Spectator admission is $30 for adults, $27 for seniors ages 65 and older, $25 for students and free for kids 12 and under when accompanying a paid adult. Racing follows 6:30 p.m. hot laps on Saturday.
