Soares memorial service, celebration of life will be Sept. 14

PETALUMA, Calif. – Racers, sponsors, friends and fans are invited to a memorial service and celebration of life for Jim Soares this Sunday, Sept. 14 beginning at 2 p.m. in the Petaluma Speedway grandstands. Soares, 68, died Sunday, Sept. 7. He had promoted Petaluma and Merced Speedway. After the eulogy, anyone who would like to share a story or anecdote about Soares is invited to do so; anyone with a picture or memento is also encouraged to bring it for display. A catered barbeque will follow the service in the Sonoma-Marin Fairgrounds outdoor covered dining area located next to Herzog Hall. Side dishes would be appreciated. IMCA’s 2014 EQ Wild West Tour ends with Sweetwater twinbill

ROCK SPRINGS, Wyo. – The final checkers fall this weekend for the eighth annual EQ Cylinder Heads Wild West Tour. Traveling IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds are at Sweetwater Speedway for $1,000 to win, Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying events on Friday, Sept. 12 and Saturday, Sept. 13. The Wild West Tour All-Star Race is also on the weekend card. Pit gates at Rock Springs open at 3 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 5 p.m. both days. GLYNDON, Minn. – IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds race for $1,000 to win on the final night of the season at Buffalo River Race Park. BILLINGS, Mont. (Sept. 9) – A pair of $1,000 to win features for IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds are on the card this weekend at Billings Motorsports Park. Both Friday, Sept. 12 and Saturday, Sept. 13 Rebel Run races are 2015 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifiers and pay a minimum of $100 to start. All IMCA points, including local track, will be awarded. Non-qualifiers will get tow money if there are more than 20 entries. Pit gates open at 3:30 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 6 p.m. both days. Late arrival Werkmeister, Temeyer top Stock Car qualifiers BOONE, Iowa (Sept. 5) – He got to town late but Casey Werkmeister joined Justin Temeyer as a Stock Car qualifying feature winner at the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s on Friday night. A high school football coach, Werkmeister was on the sidelines when his team won on Thursday, drove part of the way to Boone after the game and completed the trip the next morning. He promptly won his heat, started third in the opening qualifier and sped to the win ahead of Rick Mahlberg, Michael Jaennette and Stefan Sybesma. BOONE, Iowa (Sept. 5) – Kyle Strickler enjoyed the privilege of racing with a lot of his idols as much as he did winning Friday’s Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational at Boone Speedway. Strickler led the last 23 circuits in the 30-lap Modified feature, on night five of the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s. He earned $1,230 – including lap money – for the victory, which came almost half a straightaway ahead of defending race winner Todd Shute. “This is such a big event.
