Huls, Phillips, Abbot capture season championship night wins at Quincy

(Sept. 14) – Abe Huls put on a dominating performance in the Powder Coat Plus IMCA Stock Car season championship feature Sunday at Quincy Raceway, as he pulled away from the field to take the win and the track title as well. Following Huls to the checkered flag were Jake Powers, Brandon Savage, Jerry Jansen and William Dahl. Patrick Phillips grabbed the lead on the second lap of the Summy Tire and Auto Center IMCA Northern SportMod main event and held off all challenges to capture his first feature win. Joey Gower took the second spot followed by Brandon Dale, Adam Birck and Tanner Klingele. Tony Dunker won the track championship. Convincingly, Kay repeats as national IMCA Late Model champion

VINTON, Iowa (Sept. 12) – At the rate he’s going, Justin Kay won’t have to make room in the trophy case. He’ll have to build another one. On the strength of a division record 24 feature wins, Kay repeated as IMCA’s national Late Model champion. He earns a $5,500 share of a $21,300 point fund to be paid to top 20 finishers in national standings that become official on Sept. 29. From Wheatland, Kay finished with the maximum possible 820 points, a dozen more than runner-up Todd Cooney of Des Moines. “We raced more this year and got a lot of wins early,” said Kay, who received 20 bonus points as champion at Dubuque Speedway and also paced the points at Davenport Speedway. “It seemed like we couldn’t do anything wrong at Dubuque. Friday Deery at Farley rained out, Saturday show is still on

FARLEY, Iowa (Sept. 12) – Tonight’s Yankee Dirt Track Classic program, including the Deery Brothers Summer Series show, at Farley Speedway has been rained out. The Friday event for touring IMCA Late Models will not be rescheduled. Saturday’s program is still on as scheduled, headlined by a $7,500 to win, minimum $500 to start Deery Series feature. IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds following the XSAN Hawkeye Dirt Tour race for $2,000 to win on Saturday. Entry fee for the Late Models is $100 and all pit passes are $35. Spectator admission is $30 for adults, $27 for seniors ages 65 and older, $25 for students and free for kids 12 and under when accompanying a paid adult. Racing follows 6:30 p.m. hot laps on Saturday.

Strickler ends rollercoaster week with Super Nationals Modified crown

BOONE, Iowa (Sept. 6) – A rollercoaster four days at Boone Speedway ended with Kyle Strickler on top of the dirt track racing world. Strickler led all 40 laps of Saturday’s Modified main event at another record-setting IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s. The victory lane scene that followed was an emotional one. “This is the greatest race ever. Winning it means so much to me,” he said, pausing several times to wipe away tears of joy. “There is so much history here. I’d always wanted to put my name on the T-shirt and now I’ve done it.” The win came a night after Strickler’s Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot triumph and paid $2,700. Richie Gustin, the 2011 champion, defending champion Dylan Smith and Canadian Aaron Turnbull completed the top four. Redline Racing Parts North Star Series returns to Arlington

ARLINGTON, Minn. (Sept. 11) – The Redline Racing Parts North Star Series returns to Arlington Raceway for a Saturday, Sept. 13 show. Touring IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Mach-1 Sport Compacts also vied at Arlington in their most recent North Star outing, on Aug. 9. Pit gates open at 2:30 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 3:30 p.m. Saturday. Hot laps are at 4:30 p.m. and racing starts at 5:30 p.m. Grandstand admission is $12 for adults and $5 for kids. Pit passes are $25. The Modified portion of the evening’s program doubles as the Jeff Rucks Memorial. Completing the card is the finale for the RaceSaver Sprint Series of Minnesota. North Star Series standings in all five divisions are based on drivers’ best eight of 10 finishes. The tour concludes Saturday, Sept. 27 during the Jackson Speedway Nationals.
