Weekly winners added to expanded All-Star voting

BOONE, Iowa – Race fans will now have more candidates to choose from in the second round of voting for the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational field. Fourteen Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified drivers – winners of events paying $1,000 or more held through July 16, plus state and regional champions – will be elected in balloting that runs from July 20 to July 27. Fourteen more All-Stars, chosen from all winners of sanctioned Modified events held between June 19 and July 16, advance from the second round of voting July 29 to Aug. 5. The 12th annual invitational will be held Friday, Sept. 11 during the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals at Boone Speedway. The race pays $1,000 to win and $200 to start. Banks earns first Southern Iowa checkers of 2015

By Jeremy Fox OSKALOOSA, Iowa (June 17) – Brandon Banks won for the first time this season at Southern Iowa Speedway, in the Wednesday night Musco Lighting IMCA Modified main event. Banks jumped out to the lead at the start and never looked back, taking the checkers a full straightaway over Colt Mather, who was making his first appearance at SIS. Carter VanDenBerg finished third. Cayden Carter held off challenges from Brad Pinkerton, Damon Murty, Nathan Wood and Mike Hughes in topping the Budweiser IMCA Stock Car feature. Curtis VanDerWal won his fifth local KBOE Radio IMCA Northern SportMod feature this season, passing Cory Van Zante on the last lap. Dustin Griffiths took the lead on lap 11 en route to his third SIS Pepsi Cola Hobby Stock win of 2015. Bill Bonnett settled for second. Northern SportMod Nationals at Britt boasts possible $4,000 payday

BRITT, Iowa – Winning the Tuesday, June 23 MaxYield Seed Northern SportMod Nationals at Hancock County Speedway could be worth as much as $4,000. The main event for Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods pays a minimum of $2,500 to win. Five hundred dollar bonuses will be paid if the first-place driver is a previous event winner; has raced at least three times previously this season at Britt; and has won a regular season feature there this year. Twenty-four cars qualify and four more get sponsor provisionals. A 10-minute pit stop on the front straight is planned midway through the 40-lapper and the winner goes home with a six-foot tall trophy. FRANCIS CREEK, Wis. – 141 Speedway rolls out the red carpet for one of the top paying Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified events of the season on Wednesday and Thursday, June 24 and 25, sending the winner home with a check for $10,000. The Clash At The Creek is a qualifying race for the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. Qualifying begins on Wednesday and every driver taking the green in the main event earns a minimum of $750. Williamson collects third Wild West Modified Shootout win at SSP

(June 17) – Jesse Williamson’s drive to a career third Wild West Modified Shootout crown continued with his third feature win of the 2015 tour Wednesday at Sunset Speedway Park. B.J. Wild was the man to beat for much of the first half of the $1,000 to win Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified race. Wild was under constant pressure from Williamson but each time it seemed the challenger had the position secured the yellow would come out resulting in Wild retaining the lead. On lap 21, defending champion Alex Stanford negotiated his way into the lead and took right off. Stanford was catching lapped traffic before getting into the wall after contact was made with a lapped car on lap 37. Ahlers, Holm win first North Star Touring Series features

WORTHINGTON, Minn. (June 16) – Two drivers scored IMCA North Star Touring Series career first victories Tuesday at Nobles County Speedway. Dan Ahlers took the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod win in front of Jason Andrews and Dany Myrvold. Trevor Holm led the way in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock feature with Justin Nehring in second and Dustin Gulbrandson third. Defending champion Brandon Beckendorf became the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified wins leader with his tour career seventh checkers. Jeffrey Larson and Josh Rogotzke completed the top three. Williamson is first to repeat Wild West Modified Shootout checkers

By Ben Deatherage COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (June 16) – A two-time tour champion became the first two-time winner in the 2015 Wild West Modified Shootout Tuesday at Cottage Grove Speedway. Jesse Williamson rallied to win the fourth installment of the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified tour, and $1,000. He’d also topped the opener at Southern Oregon Speedway on June 13. Forty-three cars from eight states and Canada were on hand for the Tuesday show. Californian Troy Foulger was the early leader before giving way to Williamson on lap five. Williamson appeared to have checked out and had the race won until going off of turns three and four on lap 16. He got back on the track but relinquished the front spot to defending champ Alex Stanford. Cautions took lapped traffic out of play while Stanford continued to lead and Williamson worked his way through the field. Hensley flawless in first Northern SportMod win

(June 13) – Josh Hensley ran a smooth race up front and was rewarded with his first career 20 lap Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod victory Saturday at Chowchilla Speedway. Hensley had to deal with pressure from Rick Diaz and Keith Brown Jr. throughout the race. However, Hensley kept his cool and led every lap in victory. Diaz suffered a flat right rear tire with seven laps remaining and surrendered second to Brown. Brown tried making the low pass for the win but settled for second. Diaz charged back to finish third ahead of Nick Tucker and Marisa Odgers. Watsonville visitor Tim Clark Jr. won the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA IMCA Modified 20-lapper. Clark grabbed the lead from early leader Ray Mayer on a lap 11 restart and led the rest of the way. Contact sent Mayer spinning from second on lap 18. Harley Turner finished second.
