IMCA Modified, Stock, Hobby, SportMod drivers pursue Moser Engineering awards

PORTLAND, Ind. – Drivers in five IMCA divisions have targeted awards from Moser Engineering again in 2015. The Portland, Ind., rear end components manufacturer and 12-year IMCA marketing partner gives product certificates based on national or regional point standings and to designated place finishers at 80 special events. Runners-up in each of the five IMCA Modified regions and in both IMCA Sunoco Stock Car regions get $300 product certificates. Runners-up in standings for the two IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks regions and in national standings for both Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods and Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center Southern SportMods receive $200 certificates. Those awards will be presented during the national IMCA banquet in November. Brown is best in opener at Billings

By Dru Brown BILLINGS, Mont. (May 2) – Kasey Brown started the second season of IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified sanctioning at Billings Motorsports Park with his career sixth win in the class. Kasey Brown drew the pole for Saturday’s lidlifter with Jeremy Meirhofer to his outside, taking a commanding lead from the drop of the green. Dennis Hurd showed plenty of speed down low, catching Meirhofer for second and then peeking low. Multiple yellows waved for incidents around the track. Kenny Baumann was into the top three before another yellow waved with four laps to go. Brown stayed fast to the finish, capturing the season opener victory ahead of Tim Sorenson and Baumann. Three of Brown’s five 2014 wins in the division came at BMP.

Carrell can’t be caught at Sunset

Schrader, Wallace return for rescheduled IMCA Night specials at Longdale, Outlaw

LONGDALE, Okla. (May 4) – IMCA Night specials at Longdale Speedway tomorrow night and at Outlaw Motor Speedway in Muskogee on Wednesday have been rescheduled for July 28 and 29. NASCAR drivers Ken Schrader and Kenny Wallace will still compete both nights. Track officials noted forecasts calling for a 90 percent chance of rain and thunderstorms each of the next two days in announcing the rescheduled dates. Both IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified features pay $1,500 to win and a minimum of $100 to start. IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and IMCA SportMods race for $1,000 to win and a minimum of $50 to start each night. All applicable points, including local track points, will be awarded in the three IMCA divisions Tuesday and Wednesday, July 28-29. Pit gates and the grandstands open at 5 p.m. both days. Long haul pays off for Northeast Shootout winner Ward

By Jay Fish WEEDSPORT, N.Y. (May 3) – Nine and a half hours, 33 competitors and 35 grueling laps were what it took for Ionia, Mich.’s A.J. Ward to capture $2,500 and some impressive hardware in Weedsport Speedway’s inaugural IMCA Modified Northeast Shootout. “I didn’t come 9-1/2 hours for nothing,” a triumphant Ward declared, celebratory rifle in hand, a gift from Weedsport Speedway management for the Empire State Series event winner. “Stuff happened so fast, they bobbled, I shot the gap and next thing I know, I had the lead,” Ward recounted of his move for the lead with just six laps to go. Dundee, N.Y.’s Rich Karlnoski had led the previous 29 circuits when disaster struck. Karlnoski’s luck and suspension all broke into pieces and he’d have to settle for a 14th place finish. Maitland nabs first Modified win at Benton County Speedway

VINTON, Iowa (May 3) – Ryan Maitland led early and again late to score the first Cassill Motors IMCA Modified win of his career Sunday night at Benton County Speedway. Maitland, in his first full season in the division, raced into the lead at the drop of the green with Joe Docekal in tow. He ran the top groove while Docekal pressured from the bottom. Meanwhile, Scott Hogan was working through traffic from a third row start and settled into second at the seven lap mark. Hogan chased Maitland around the top side until he was able to get a run beneath the leader when the frontrunners encountered lapped traffic with four laps to go. Hogan held the point until he drifted off the top of turn four on the 19th of 20 circuits. That allowed Maitland to resume command to drive to his first career victory in the division. Late restart opens door for Bouche

(May 2) – Defending track champ Dave Bouche used a late restart to steal Saturday’s IMCA Sunoco Stock Car victory away from Billy LeMieux by inches at Thunderhill Raceway. LeMieux leapt from his front row starting spot to the lead early in the Stock Car headliner. Evan Madden hustled to the runner-up spot and began to put heavy pressure on LeMieux. At the midway point Madden worked the low groove, pulling even with the leader. LeMieux was able to keep his momentum up just enough to hold off Madden each lap. Madden encountered trouble in turn two, clipping the infield tire and causing his car to come to a halt, bringing out the caution with four laps remaining. Bouche used this to his advantage as the green flag few, diving under LeMieux. The duo raced door-to-door coming to the checkers with Bouche nipping LeMieux at the line by narrowest of margins. Horsham flies fastest at Eagle

By Greg Soukup EAGLE, Neb. (May 2) – Tim Horsham topped the Saturday Sam’s Club IMCA Sport Compact main event at Eagle Raceway. “I’m dedicating this win and my whole season to my niece Kim Brigham. She’s suffering from an inoperable brain tumor and this is all for her,” Horsham said. He concluded the post-race interview by stating, “I really didn’t expect that win. I’m still learning how to drive these things. Lindsey (Theisen) sure let me know she was right behind me. On the restarts she was bumping me to remind me. I knew then I better get going.” Dylan Smith took advantage of a restart to take the lead and drive to the Kaplan University IMCA Modified checkers. EAST MOLINE, Ill. (May 3) – The driver with the most feature wins in 28-plus seasons of Deery Brothers Summer Series history now has a trophy from the Hershel Roberts Memorial to add to his collection. Jeff Aikey slipped past defending IMCA Late Model race winner and tour champion Justin Kay on the 14th of 58 laps Sunday at Quad City Speedway. He led the rest of the way in collecting his 64th career Deery victory and a $3,000 payday at the fifth annual event Kay set the fast pace for the first 13th circuits, then chased Aikey in heavy lapped traffic before finishing on his back bumper.
