Lovell, Graham, are IMCA winners at Banks

By Ben Deatherage BANKS, Ore. (May 9) – Jeff Lovell was on a rail in Saturday’s IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified feature at Sunset Speedway Park. Lovell pulled away from the rest of the field, building a sizable lead before taking his first checkers of the season. Craig Cassell posted another runner-up finish. Doug Lockwood, Oscar Luckman and Kenny Miller completed the top five. The Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods were also in the house. Pamela Graham was the winner ahead of Michael Melton and Ken Frisbie.

Green grabs first IMCA Modified win

By Greg Grabianowski BRITT, Iowa (May 9) – It only took four weeks for Derek Green to earn his first career victory in a new division. Green made the switch from his usual IMCA Sunoco Stock Car to the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified division this year and grabbed his first win at Hancock County Speedway. Green started on the pole and outran Tim Ward, Ryan Ruter, Jesse Hoeft and Clayton Christensen to the checkers. Chad Palmer earned his first Stock Car win of the season after starting outside row three. For the second straight week, George Nordman took the double checkers in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod main. Cody Nielsen started inside row six and won his first local IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock feature of the year. Kaytee DeVries of Spencer took her second feature win of the season in the Mach-1 Sport Compacts, coming from the outside of the third row to do so. Tenth starting Justin Nielsen was the runner-up.

Cook captures rain-delayed Mod main at 34

By Dana Royer WEST BURLINGTON, Iowa (May 9) – Ryan Cook was the first feature winner Saturday at 34 Raceway, holding off Bill Roberts the last three times around the track to capture the rain-interrupted IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified feature from last week. Tyler Glass got his first win of the season, taking the checkered flag by several car lengths in the evening’s scheduled Modified feature. Glass took the lead from Brandon Rothzen on lap seven and never looked back. Seventeen IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars put on another show with John Oliver Jr. earning his first 34 Raceway win this season. Oliver took the lead from John Brockway on lap 14 in a contest that went caution free-up to lap 15. With one lap to go, the final caution came out setting up a green, white, checkered finish. Jim Redmann took the lead on the final lap coming out of turn three but Oliver powered forward to get the lead back and took the win. Hopkins starts last, finishes first in Bay Area Tour feature at Flomaton

FLOMATON, Ala. (May 9) – Greg Hopkins raced all the way from last starting to first at the finish of Saturday’s Bay Area Emerald Coast Tour main event at Flomaton Speedway. The victory was Hopkins series first and IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified career 36th. Jessie Barnhill shook off the recent bad luck he’s endured and followed his heat race win – ahead of brother Jason Barnhill – with a strong run to second place in the feature. Justin Galbreath, winner of the two previous tour events, was third. Joey Bartlett and Chris Bayhi completed the top five. Twenty-one different drivers have now purchased licenses to compete in the inaugural Bay Area Modified Tour. Duke drives to Pennsylvania Sprint Series win at Susquehanna

NEWBERRYTOWN, Pa. (May 9) – It was an exciting race on Saturday night with extra special significance on the eve of Mother’s Day. Ken Duke picked up the Pennsylvania Sprint Series win at Susquehanna Speedway Park for what to date is most significant victory in what is sure to be many future checkered flag runs. “That was the kid who used to race cars in the dirt in front of the grandstands,” proud father Ken Duke Sr. said after the race. Van Pay races to first career feature win at 141 Speedway

A new Van Pay has put his own tally in the win column after the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod feature Saturday night at 141 Speedway. Race Van Pay joined the ranks of feature winners earning his first career win in a highly contested race. All 20 laps of the feature belonged to Van Pay, who had his share of challengers along the way but held all of them at bay. A three-lap dash to the finish was the final test that Van Pay passed. LaCrosse plays chess with Czarneski at Luxemburg

By Greg Aregoni LUXEMBURG, Wis. (May 8) – Friday night was game night at Luxemburg Speedway, most notably in the IMCA Modified division when Benji LaCrosse was king. Russ Reinwald led the opening lap before heading down pit lane under caution. Tim Czarneski grabbed the top spot on the restart and pulled ahead of the field by half a straightaway. LaCrosse maneuvered through the field and got to the runner-up spot by lap 10. LaCrosse ran down Czarneski and a game of chess ensued. LaCrosse tried multiple lines with the leader maintaining the top of the track. With two circuits remaining, the duo reached lapped traffic. With the white flag in the air, Czarneski got behind a lapped vehicle on top of the track allowing LaCrosse to move to the bottom more quickly than the leader. Virginia Sprint Series checkers fly for Linkenhoker

By Jim Haines SHENANDOAH, Va. (May 9) – Anthony Linkenhoker used his smooth style to move up front and take his career first Virginia Sprint Series win Saturday at Shenandoah Speedway. The third different winner in as many IMCA Eagle Motorsports RaceSaver tour events this season, Linkenhoker took the landmark checkers ahead of Chris Ware and Charlie Ware. Chris Ware and Bill Rice paced the field to green with Ware out first by a nose but Rice came back to lead the lap as problems hit in turn one. Brian Lawson pushed up in to Tom Humphries, blocking the track and taking French Grimes with them. On the restart, Rice lead with Ware in second as Linkenhoker followed. Linkenhoker went around Ware and was off after Rice. On lap 10, Linkenhoker went under Rice and to the lead where he stayed for his first win at Shenandoah as Ware stayed close. Shawano win is Stankowski’s IMCA Modified first

By Scott Owen SHAWANO, Wis. (May 9) – Mitch Stankowski gained redemption by winning his first career IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified feature Saturday at Shawano Speedway. Jesse Peebles started outside row one and quickly looked as though he had the car to beat. Behind Peebles, Stankowski moved in to second on the track and the two began to distance themselves from the rest of the field. Peebles built a comfortable lead by lap 10 when he caught up with the back of the pack and had to contend with lapped traffic. Peebles had difficulties negotiating lapped cars, which allowed Stankowski to close in. Peebles was forced low by the cars in front of him. Charlie Wild joined the mix as Peebles and Stankowski raced side-by-side in lapped traffic for the lead. Stankowski was finally able to clear Peebles on lap 17 to take the lead and went on to win his first career feature in the division after nearly doing so last week. Tony Bouche tops Thunderhill Stocks

By Edward Anschutz STURGEON BAY, Wis. (May 9) – Saturday night at Thunderhill Raceway, a pair cagey veterans in Tony Bouche and Charlie Kroll squared off. Bouche was able to put his 38 years of racing knowledge to good use as he outdueled Kroll late in the going to score a popular win in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car main event. Four different drivers took turns over the first half of the contest. Trouble ensued just past midway as Billy LeMieux and John Anschutz locked horns, sending both of them spinning and bringing out the caution. The displeasure between the drivers was obvious. On the restart, Bouche in his Ford Thunderbird raced to second behind Kroll. For several laps the duo ran nose to tail on the high side. With four laps remaining Kroll slipped high allowing Bouche take the lead and eventual checkers.
