Aikey holds off Bruening, scores Deery Series win in Des Moines

By Ryan Clark DES MOINES, Iowa (July 29) – To say Jeff Aikey had to work for his Friday win at the Iowa State Fair Speedway would be an understatement. The current point leader in the Deery Brothers Summer Series for IMCA Late Models rolled off from the pole but was pressured throughout most of the 40-lapper by Tyler Bruening. Aikey, also the 2016 track champion in Des Moines, led the field through a pair of early cautions on laps three and nine, the only two stoppages of the event. Bruening, who started outside of row three, took advantage of the lap nine restart and stole second from Matt Ryan before running down the race leader. The lead pair built a near straightaway lead over the field while they battled for the top spot. Dodge City Raceway Park into the home stretch

By Lonnie Wheatley DODGE CITY, Kan. – Another season is quickly racing by at Dodge City Raceway Park. Including Friday’s Driver Appreciation Night special, only three nights of championship chase action remain for the track’s featured divisions of Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds, IMCA SportMods, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks. The only point race action that remains after Friday is the third annual SportMod Mayhem event on Aug. 27 and the season-ending Jerry Soderberg Memorial Championship on Sept. 24. Attention shifts first to Friday’s Driver Appreciation Night card that fires off at 7:30 p.m. While a large number of free tickets to Friday’s card will be distributed by drivers, additional tickets will be available at the gate for $15 for adults with children 11 and under admitted free when accompanied by an adult. Pit passes are $30.

Early entries already at 117 for IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Nationals

EAGLE, Neb. – One hundred and seventeen drivers representing 16 states, from border to border and coast to coast, as well as Canada have pre-registered for the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Nationals at Eagle Raceway. The fourth annual event is already the biggest in IMCA RaceSaver history and will be held Sept. 1-4; the Sunday main event will pay $2,500 to win. Pre-tech starts at 10 a.m. and an open practice runs from 7-10 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 1. Qualifying features on Friday, Sept. 2 and Saturday, Sept. 3 both pay $700 to win; qualifying is on Friday and the $1,000 to win Jake Ita Memorial Race of Champions is Saturday. Four new winners in Thunder Series during Osborne County Fair

By Mike Hughes OSBORNE, Kan. (July 27)—The Kansas Thunder Series moved to Osborne Speedway for racing action during the Osborne County Fair and the Wednesday night program saw all new series winners. Mike Petersilie led all 15 laps of the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified feature. Tanner Black chased Petersilie the entire distance but had to settle for the runner-up spot. Don Geist was third, trailed by Jesse Richter and Joe Cleveland. Chad Sterling took command of the 15-lap IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature on lap 12 from Kyle Pfeifer and held on for a trip to the winner’s circle. Following Pfeifer to the finish line were Nolan Remus, Dustin McClurg and Colin Heim. Zach Olmstead made a late-race pass of Colton Pfeifer to pick up the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock win. Southern SportMod champ at Super Nationals added to Stephenville Starter awards program

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – An IMCA marketing partner from the Lone Star State expands its awards presence this September at the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s. While returning for a third year as title sponsor of the Hobby Stock Race of Champions at Super Nationals, Stephenville Starter awards a starter to the champion of the inaugural main event for Southern SportMods at Boone Speedway. Droste, Moyer top Dubuque County Fair races

By Jerry Mackey DUBUQUE, Iowa (July 27) – Night two of the 63rd annual Dubuque County Fair included a night of spectacular stock car racing for the Julien Dubuque Classic. Five classes of cars were on the track being headlined by the Out-Pace Racing Products IMCA Late Models. The 35-lap main event saw Tyler Droste continue his recent dominance of the 3/8-mile Dubuque Speedway. Droste led every lap but the race win was in doubt right to the checkered flag. Tyler Bruening caught Droste as the front runners worked through lapped traffic. Bruening was able to draw even with Droste on several occasions but Droste prevailed for a car length win. Justin Kay took third ahead of Charlie McKenna. The Merfeld Brothers Automotive IMCA Modified feature was another hotly contested battle as rookie Austin Moyer took a hard-fought win over Kay. SPI announces free admission at West Liberty on Aug. 13

A full night of racing is on the program that evening with free admission to the grandstand. Race fans are encouraged to contact their favorite driver to receive tickets, which will enter that driver in a contest for free pit admissions. URSS readies for inaugural Ernie DiCroce Memorial

BYERS, Colo. – The 2016 URSS IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Series will invade Colorado Motorsports Park Saturday night, July 30 for the inaugural Ernie DiCroce Memorial. Gates open at 5 p.m. with a concert by School Of Rock. Races kick off at 7 p.m. A stellar field of drivers from Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska and Oklahoma will be ready to hit the clay once again as they shoot it out for the top prize. AFTON, N.Y. – There’s a new name atop the leaderboard coming into Friday’s Atomicwraps.com Empire State Series event at I-88 Speedway. The July 29 feature for traveling Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds pays $500 to win and minimum $75 to start.
