Rain can’t dampen Great Lakes Nationals win by Wonch

CRYSTAL, Mich. (Sept. 17) – That rain early in Sunday’s Great Lakes Nationals main event at Crystal Motor Speedway didn’t bother Austin Wonch a bit. Wonch was running third when the precipitation started, and ran the 10 or so track packing laps that followed confident he’d be able to work his way to the front of the IMCA Modified field. After doing just that, Wonch led the last 45 of 50 laps and took the $3,000 checkers ahead of John McClure. A.J. Ward, Mitchell Hunt and Myron DeYoung rounded out the top five in the typically stellar Great Lakes Nationals field. Snake River Roundup this weekend at Idaho Falls

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho – The Snake River Stock Car Association is proud to present the Snake River Roundup on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 22 and 23 at Idaho Falls Raceway. IMCA Modifieds will race 30 lap features for $1,000 guaranteed to win both nights with a minimum 10-car field. IMCA SportMods will race 20 lap features for $500 guaranteed to win both nights with a minimum 10-car field. It will be draw/redraw both nights for the Modifieds and SportMods. IMCA Modifieds, Northern SportMods on Stampede card at Jamestown

JAMESTOWN, N.D. – The 46th annual Stock Car Stampede at Jamestown Speedway will be the first to feature both IMCA Modifieds and Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods. Season championship night at Arlington honors Schoknecht

ARLINGTON, Minn. – The Saturday, Sept. 23 season championship night program at Arlington Raceway will be in honor of Scott Schoknecht. Schoknecht, from Belle Plaine, was very instrumental in helping many drivers with his unselfish knowledge in setting up race cars. Friends have collected donations from almost 40 individuals and businesses to add to the purse for the IMCA Modifieds and IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars. Both features will be $1,500 to win, $800 for second, $500 for third, $300 for fourth and $200 for fifth through 24th place. BEATRICE, Neb. – Five IMCA divisions are featured at Beatrice Speedway’s season-ending Septemberfest special this Friday and Saturday, Sept. 22-23. IMCA Modifieds run for $1,000 to win their opening night qualifier, with the top four finishers locked into Saturday’s $2,000 to win main event. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, Jet Racing Central Region and Allstar Performance State points, as well as a Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot bid, are at stake on Saturday. Phillips shows the way to $10,000 World Nationals checkers

By Joyce Eisele MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (Sept. 16) – Veteran Terry Phillips made his way to Marshalltown Speedway from the Show Me State and showed his IMCA Modified expertise on the track, topping Saturday’s $10,000 to win World Nationals main event. Richie Gustin of Gilman gave Phillips a run for the big money when he took the lead on lap 21, only to have Phillips come right back and regain it on the next lap. From there on, Phillips put distance between himself and Gustin, and took the 50-lapper by a comfortable margin. Along with the big payday, the checkers put Phillips on the ballot for the 2018 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. Gustin had to be content with the runner-up spot.
