Gustin, Olson race to IMCA wins on Iowa Donor Network Urbana 5 Night

VINTON, Iowa (June 10) – Richie Gustin and Tony Olson took home the top checks from Benton County Speedway’s Iowa Donor Network Urbana 5 Memorial Sunday night. Already on the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot, Gustin started third in the IMCA Modified 20-lapper and took the lead from Brennen Chipp with just a few circuits scored. Gustin pulled away before the seventh starting Troy Cordes found the fastest line and began making up ground. Cordes closed on Gustin and nearly drew even until a late caution. Gustin then pulled away for the $1,000 victory while Dripps worked past Cordes for second. Also the winner of 2015 and 2016 IDN/Urbana 5 Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod features, Olson started third row and raced the low side to the front early on. He’d withstand pressure from Joe Docekal, winner of Friday’s SportMod Challenge at Davenport Speedway, following two early yellows and again on a green, white, checkered finish. That win was good for $1.300. Ryan Dolan took advantage of his pole position start to earn his second IMCA [Read More]

By Greg Soukup EAGLE, Neb. (June 9) – Nick Beckman grabbed the lead on lap two and held off all challengers in winning Saturday’s Valentino’s IMCA Hobby Stock feature at Eagle Raceway. “I’d say it’s been four years since I’ve been on the front stretch here. It feels really good to be back in a Hobby Stock,” he said. “I knew I had to get out front and run away. I’m just glad that I was able to hold off all of the fast drivers.” Scott Bivens got the lead on the 11th circuit in winning the Hoosier Racing Tire IMCA Northern SportMod main. Likewise, it had been a while since he’d been to victory lane at Eagle. “It’s been a year and a half since my last win, at least,” Bivens said post-race. “But we just keep chugging along. We’re getting faster this year, so maybe we’ll do this some more.” Already on the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot, Jordan Grabouski earned $1,000 for his fifth Runner Freight IMCA Modified feature win of 2018. Szecsodi sizzles at Tri-City

AUBURN, Mich. (June 8) – Matt Szecsodi made his second visit of the season to victory lane at Tri-City Motor Speedway after taking over the lead of the Main Street Seed and Supply IMCA Modified feature on the 10th lap. The start of the feature was dominated by Craig Vance as he drove the bottom line to pace the field.  At lap nine, it was Chad Wernette who fought his way from mid -pack to lead. His turn up front would only last a lap as Szecsodi took over the lead. Nate Jones also fought his way through the field and got to second.  But without the help of any caution flags, Szecsodi’s lead was too big to overcome. Szecsodi parked in victory lane with his second feature win of 2018.  Jones grabbed his third runner-up finish of the season. Jones was followed by Wernette, Drasco, Ark., driver Heath Grizzle, and 19th starting Chris Cohoon. OSBORN, Mo. (June 8) – It’s been a few years since he’s been to Osborn but Trevor Grossenbacher showed he still knows how to get to the front at US 36 Raceway. Grossenbacher caught up with Tyler Drueke in traffic and made what proved to be the winning pass with four laps to go in Friday’s Budweiser Shootout feature for IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars. “The last time I ran here was five years ago,” said Grossenbacher, who earned $1,000 for the feature victory and another $200 for winning his heat race. “It’s a 2-1/2 hour trip for us but I’m sure we’ll go back. It was a fun night.” The fifth starting Drueke and fourth starting Grossenbacher ran 1-2 much of the 20-lapper, contested by 19 cars representing six states. The caution came out with six laps remaining; Grossenbacher used the top side to take the lead away two circuits later. “I thought for sure he’d (Drueke) go to the top for the restart,” Grossenbacher said. “He went to the bottom and that’s when I [Read More]

Bolac is the fastest at Dixieland’s Fast Friday

By Jim Haines ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. (June 8) – Dixieland Speedway hosted the first Virginia Sprint Series Fast Friday event of the season after an earlier rainout and Daren Bolac was the fastest at his hometown track. Bill Rice and Chris Ware paced to IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car field to green with Ware getting the run off the top and Rice down low. Ware was steady up top but ultimately no match for Bolac, who proved the bottom was fast as well in taking away the lead. Tom Humphries got by Rice and was shadowing Ware lap after lap but their pursuit was changing every corner of every lap as Jerald Harris, C.J. Faison, Tony Harris, Jake McLain, Jeff Taylor and Randy Sterling were all in a pack. Bolac stayed strong up front and Humphries got by Ware, leaving him to deal with Faison. Bolac was just not going to be caught as the checkered flag was waving for a popular win with Humphries second and Faison third. Next it’s a first-time visit to Hagerstown, [Read More]

Muenster tops Modified main at Luxemburg

By Scott Owen LUXEMBURG, Wis. (June 8) – In the racing world, it’s an impressive feat to win two races in a row, but to do it on back-to-back nights on two distinctly different surfaces is something rarely seen anymore. Eddie Muenster pulled it off, though, scoring a late model win on Thursday night and following it up with his first IMCA Modified win of the season Friday at Luxemburg Speedway. Chase Parker led early on, with Muenster and Brian Mullen hot on his heels. Parker did his best to keep the veterans at bay but Muenster eventually found his way past for the lead. Mullen also passed Parker and began to pester Muenster for the top spot. As Parker began to fade, Shawn Kilgore and Mike Mullen came from deep in the field to join the top four. At the end, Muenster held off Mullen for the win followed by 12th starting Kilgore, and 13th starting Mike Mullen. Parker held on for a strong fifth place finish in the caution-free affair. Brett Wenzel nearly equaled Muenster’s accomplishment, finishing [Read More]
