2019 racing season begins at Off Road Speedway

The best race of the night may have been the Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod feature where Colby Langenberg overcame a starting assignment on the inside of the fourth row and a significant lead by Jeremy Gnat and Robbie Thome before securing the win on the final lap of the 20-lap event. “I kind of got caught up with a couple guys that were running side-by-side, so I couldn’t go anywhere,” Langenberg said. “Finally they separated, and I was able to shoot through. Ward captures opening checkers at Crystal

CRYSTAL, Mich. (April 20) – After picking up a couple IMCA Modified feature wins during his racing vacation to Florida, A.J. Ward returned to a more familiar setting to continue pursuit of a fourth straight Dirt Works Eastern Region title. Ward topped Saturday’s opening night feature at Crystal Motor Speedway ahead of ninth starting Mitchell Hunt and Brenten DeYoung. Matt Szecsodi scored hard charger honors after qualifying out of his “B” feature, starting 18th and ending in sixth.

Turner turns in first IMCA Stock Car win

By Rick Staley BETHANY, Mo. (April 20) – C.J. Turner picked up his first-ever IMCA Sunoco Stock Car victory Saturday at Bethany Speedway. Turner set a blistering pace, getting out front early and showing the rest of the field the fast way around with heat winners Conner and Carson Masoner trying to run him down to no avail. Corey Piffer took his turn challenging Turner but faded in the closing laps. Turner was not be denied and proved the Jamesport Mafia is alive and well as he picked up his first Stock Car feature win. Conner Masoner passed Piffer and younger brother Carson for second place with a late-race charge. Carson Masoner battled Piffer to the line and claimed third. Cory Wray was the IMCA Modified winner and Garrett Nelson topped the Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod main.

Denning speeds to Maquoketa checkers

By Rob Hinckley MAQUOKETA, IA (April 20) – He glanced low and high. Travis Denning prefers the low groove at Maquoketa Speedway, but he made an exception Saturday evening. Denning pulled the number one pill on the redraw and launched to a flag to flag, 20-lap QCJeeps.com IMCA Modified victory. “I saw those guys coming and I usually don’t like to run high,” Denning said in victory lane. “But it worked when I had to use it and was great.” Brad Moring sped from the second spot and stayed there. Top runners Bryce Garnhart, Jeff Larson and Ray Cox, Jr. came next. “Any one of these guys can win here,” Denning added. “This is a great deal on a Saturday night – great competition.” Denning took home $700 on the night before Easter. IMCA Modifieds, Northern SportMods featured at Placerville Speedway’s Donnie Tilford Tribute

PLACERVILLE, Calif. – Both IMCA Modifieds and Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods are on the Saturday card at Placerville Speedway’s annual Donnie Tilford Tribute. The April 27 Modified feature is a Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifier, paying $1,500 to win, $800 for second, $600 for third, $450 for fourth, $375 for fifth and a minimum of $75 to start. Northern SportMods race for $500 to win and a minimum of $50 to start. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National and E3 Spark Plugs State points will be awarded in both divisions; Modifieds also earn Larry Shaw Race Cars Western region points. US 36 Modified win goes to Clancy

By Jacob Blair OSBORN, Mo. (April 19) – IMCA Modifieds provided one of the best races of the night Friday at US 36 Raceway, with Chad Clancy leading the way in a green, white, checkered finish. Brandon Williams had led the first 15 laps of the feature with Clancy draped all over the inside corner panel of his machine for most of that run. While those two battled, Steven Bowers Jr. closed in and made it a three-car battle. The front three were primed for a battle to the end when the first caution of the race flew at lap 15. Clancy chose the inside lane on the Delaware double file restart. Bowers got the top and, on the restart, found the grip, shot around Clancy and crossed to the inside of Williams. He cleared for the lead in turn three as Williams slipped up allowing Clancy into second. Newlin, Reigle race to PASS wins at BAPS Motor Speedway

YORK HAVEN, Pa. (April 20) – Defending Pennsylvania Sprint Series champion Zach Newlin joined Cale Reigle in visiting victory lane for the first time this season Saturday at BAPS Motor Speedway. Newlin led all the way to win the regularly scheduled 20-lap IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car feature after Reigle led all 19 laps of the evening’s first race, which completed a feature rained out two weeks earlier with one lap run. In the make-up feature, Devin Adams, Billy Ney, Newlin and Ken Duke Jr. followed Reigle across the finish line. The first feature was stopped following an early flip by Jake Frye but from that point Reigle sailed in front of the field while Ney, Larry McVey and Newlin dueled behind him. 15 chassis builders enter IMCA Manufacturer’s Cup contest

VINTON, Iowa – Fifteen chassis builders are in the running for national and regional honors in IMCA’s Manufacturer’s Cup contest. Standings will again be based on makes of chassis driven by top 10 drivers in each region. 2019 champions will be named based on points for individual regions while the builder with the highest point total overall will be named IMCA’s national Manufacturer of the Year. The national Manufacturer of the Year receives a trophy, to be presented during the IMCA awards banquet in Lincoln, Neb., in November. Long tow to Lee County pays off for Mullen

By Brian Neal DONNELLSON, Iowa (April 19) – Mike Mullen made the long tow from Wisconsin pay off by winning Friday’s IMCA Modified main event at Lee County Speedway. Chad Giberson and Dakota Simmons led the field to green in the 20-lap Budweiser IMCA Modified feature, with Simmons grabbing the initial lead on John Oliver Jr. and Dennis LaVeine. Oliver used the momentum off the top to grab the top spot on lap five. Mullen made it a three-car battle for the lead then on lap eight passed Oliver Jr. to take away the top spot. The one and only caution of the race appeared on the next lap. On the restart, Mullen jumped back out front with Michael Long and Oliver close behind.
