Thornton is dynamic in Dirt Duel win at Stuart

By Josh Reynolds STUART, Iowa (June 12) – Another big-money event ended with Ricky Thornton Jr. in victory lane, this time in an IMCA Sunoco Stock Car. The multi-division star raced from eighth starting to win the 50-lap headline event at Stuart Speedway’s Dynamic Drivelines Dirt Duel presented by Sniper Speed & Midstate Machine Wednesday night. The checkers were good for $3,000 and came ahead of Abe Huls and Johnny Spaw.  Huls had taken the early lead over Elijah Zevenbergen and Spaw before the yellow flew on lap three. Huls led the next circuit with Zevenbergen taking over on lap five.  Zevenbergen led one more lap until he went into a wild spin in turn two to bring out the second and what proved to be final yellow of the night. Nielsen thunders to rich Hobby checkers at Algona

By Greg Grabianowski ALGONA, Iowa (June 13) – Cody Nielsen made like lightning in winning Thursday’s Thunder­dome IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock Shootout at Kossuth County Speedway. The victory paid $1,000 and came ahead of defending race winner Dylan Nelson.  Josh Sidles and Jamie Weishaar brought the feature field to the flag stand as Sidles took the ini­tial lead.  Cautions came out on laps two and eight to bunch the field back up; Nielsen grabbed the lead at halfway and went on to his second feature win of the season at Algona.  Keeran Sampson, national points leader Leah Wroten and Josh Sidles completed the top five. Nielsen also scored hard charger honors after starting 11th.  Jeremy Mills raced to IMCA Modified career win number 99 and Heath Tulp topped the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature.  Alec Fett was first to the Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod checkers while Jay DeVries was the Mach-1 Sport Compact winner. New promoters see Sunday car counts on upswing at The New Raceway Park

JEFFERSON, S.D. – An offer he couldn’t say no to got Sioux City businessman Steve Kiraly back into motorsports. The former driver and industry veteran Dennis Moore now co-promote The New Raceway Park in Jef­ferson S.D. With IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks, Karl Kustoms North­ern SportMods and Mach-1 Sport Compacts on regular weekly programs, they’ve seen car counts go up at every Sunday show since opening night on May 26. “It was excellent that we got the IMCA sanction,” said Kiraly. “We’re bringing the fun back to rac­ing at this track. We saw four-wide racing at our last show and the drivers had a blast. BOONE, Iowa – Online registration for the biggest and best event in all of dirt track racing is underway.  Drivers in all divisions except the Late Models planning to compete at the Sept. 2-7 IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s must pre-register online. The form for pre-registration can be found at www.imca.com and www.raceboone.com under the Super Nationals menu.  Drivers who do not already have a MyRacePass account can create one when they go to that link. “We began the on-line registration process last year and it helped speed up the entire process immensely,” said IMCA President Brett Root. “It made it considerably easier for our staff to prepare for Super Nationals leading up to the event and streamlined much of the actual week of Super Nationals for IMCA and Boone Speedway employees.”  Drivers must also pre-register to reserve pit stalls and to compete in the Aug. 31 Prelude at Boone Speedway. Deery Series doubleheader next at Maquoketa, Independence

MAQUOKETA, Iowa – Deery Brothers Summer Series drivers return to a pair of famil­iar venues next week, with $2,000 to win features Tuesday, June 18 at Maquoketa Speedway and Wednesday, June 19 at Independence Motor Speedway. Both IMCA Late Model main events pay a minimum of $300 to start.  Maquoketa, the site of a dozen previous Deery events, opens the pit gates at 3:15 p.m. Racing follows 6:15 p.m. hot laps, with IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods on the program as well. Winner banks $2,500 at IMCA Northern SportMod Nationals

BRITT, Iowa – There’s a $2,500 check waiting for the winner of Hancock County Speedway’s Tuesday, June 18 Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod Nationals.  The MaxYield Seed-sponsored special pays a minimum of $300 to start. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National and E3 Spark Plugs Iowa State, but no track points will be awarded and top finishers from each heat advance to the $200 to win DeKalb/Asgrow Dash to determine their starting spots in the main event. IMCA Wild West Modified Shootout set for June 21-29

Teams from Oregon, Washington, California, North Dakota, British Columbia, and beyond are expected to make the journey.
