Opening night, Bill Davis Memorial events start season at Stuart

STUART, Iowa – Opening night kicks off a big week of IMCA racing at Stuart Speedway. 

IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks, Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods and Mach-1 Sport Compacts start the 2020 campaign at Stuart on Wednesday, May 20. 

IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, regional, state and track points will be awarded for the lidlifter. Pit gates open at 5 p.m. with hot laps at 6:45 p.m. and racing to follow.

Both IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks run Sunday, May 24. The second annual Bill Davis Sr. event on Memorial Day boasts a $1,000 to win, Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying feature for the IMCA Modifieds. Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods and Mach-1 Sport Compacts complete the Monday, May 25 card.

Pit gates open at 4 p.m. with racing at 6 p.m. and hot laps to follow both nights and IMCA national, regional, state and track points will be awarded.

All three shows will be draw/redraw. Pit passes are $30 on Wednesday and Monday and $35 on Sunday.

To properly allow for social distancing on Wednesday, track officials will allow all reserved pit stall drivers to pit in the main pits and hang up their sign where they requested to be this season. All other drivers will use the grassy area in the overflow pit. 

All crew, family, and friends’ personal vehicles will be parked where spectators normally park. Two pit gates will be open, by the ticket office and on the west road. No more than 10 people will be allowed in an individual driver’s pit stall at the same time. 

Drivers are also asked to get all their information for put on MyRacePass to speed up opening night.

Thornton is dynamic in Dirt Duel win at Stuart

By Josh Reynolds STUART, Iowa (June 12) – Another big-money event ended with Ricky Thornton Jr. in victory lane, this time in an IMCA Sunoco Stock Car. The multi-division star raced from eighth starting to win the 50-lap headline event at Stuart Speedway’s Dynamic Drivelines Dirt Duel presented by Sniper Speed & Midstate Machine Wednesday night. The checkers were good for $3,000 and came ahead of Abe Huls and Johnny Spaw.  Huls had taken the early lead over Elijah Zevenbergen and Spaw before the yellow flew on lap three. Huls led the next circuit with Zevenbergen taking over on lap five.  Zevenbergen led one more lap until he went into a wild spin in turn two to bring out the second and what proved to be final yellow of the night. Gilman scores after fast start at Stuart

By Josh Reynolds STUART, Iowa (June 21, 2023) – Multi-time and defending track champion Josh Gllman was the Friesen Performance IMCA Modified driver no one could catch Wednesday at Karl Chevrolet of Stuart International Speedway. Gilman led Drew Janssen and Martin Bennett over the first half of the race. Bennett faded as Canadian driver Isaiah Geisel got to third with five laps to go but there was no touching Gilman as he sailed to the 3.5 second win. Janssen finished second with Geisel third. The IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars saw Jeff Mueller use his front row start to rocket out to the lead. Buck Schafroth gave chase for the entire 20 laps but there was no catching Mueller on this night as he cruised to the feature win. Schafroth finished second with third going to Miciah Hidlebaugh. IMCA Stock Car heavyweights square off at Stuart

By Josh Reynolds STUART, Iowa (June 10) – The drivers running 1-2 in IMCA Sunoco Stock Car career wins ran 1-2 in a battle for the ages Wednesday at Stuart Speedway.  Brad Derry and Shawn Ritter lined up on the front row. Mike Nichols jumped to the lead on lap one and after a couple of cautions looked to cruise to the win, but a caution on lap 17 bunched the field and gave 11th starting Damon Murty a shot.  The top two put on a show over the last two laps and it was Nichols with a couple of strong moves to hang onto the lead and take the win by a half a car length. Murty finished in second with Todd VanEaton, Josh Daniels and Buck Schafroth the rest of the top five.  John Davis and Scott Bash led the IMCA Modified field to the green flag.
