Hofbauer nabs first IMCA Stock Car win on opening night at Boone

BOONE, Iowa (May 16) – The fans were missing at the Boone Speedway on Saturday for the opening night of the 2020 racing season, but the drivers got down to business. Due to the regula­tions by the state of Iowa during the Covid-19 pandemic, no spectators were allowed in the grand­stands, but drivers were eager to begin their racing season and get back to some sense of normalcy during this unprecedented time.

The IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars were up for a 20-lap feature event. Tony Hofbauer and Jeff Larson started on the front row and entered into a battle at the drop of the green. Larson jumped to the lead and then the two swapped the top spot for several laps until Hofbauer was able to establish it for good on lap 11. 

From then on, he pulled away and took the checkers, securing his first-ever IMCA Stock Car vic­tory.  Hofbauer, who did double duty on the night, also racing in the Modified class, finished comforta­bly ahead of second place Todd Reitzler. 

Ricky Thornton Jr. led all but the first lap in winning the IMCA Modified main. Jack Phillips paced the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks from start to finish and Johnathon Logue led the last half of the Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod feature. 

Racing continues next Saturday night, May 23rd, once again with no spectators during the Covid-19 restrictions. Tune in to IMCA.TV for pay-per-view coverage of the action.

It’s Roberts in a thriller at Boone, David Smith prevails in brotherly battle

By Joyce Eisele BOONE, Iowa (May 29) – The racers came out in full force for Saturday night racing at the Boone Speedway with 169 cars packing the pits and all IMCA regular classes would find first time winners on the season. The IMCA STARS Mod Lites were in town for a national event series race, as part of the Corn Belt Clash.   It was a thrilling finish to the 20-lap IMCA Modified feature that saw amazing crisscross moves during the race.  Nick Roberts started sixth and had the top spot by lap four, content to let the pack behind sort itself out.  Tim Ward came from 12th starting into second and began applying pressure quickly, and Kyle Brown was also in the picture.  Then the show really began when Roberts and Ward made some spectacular crisscross moves out of turn two with Brown sticking his nose into the mix as well.  Several more crossover moves had the crowd excited as the laps wore down, with Roberts always managing to come out on top. Season championship wins to Rust, Smith, Logue, Watson

By Joyce Eisele BOONE, Iowa (Aug. 24) – The 2019 IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing point season came to a close Saturday at Boone Speedway with season championship night.  Jake McBirnie held a thirty-two point lead over Cory Pestotnik going into the final go around of the season in the Elmquist IMCA Northern SportMod 23-lap feature.  McBirnie shot to the lead as the race went green and continued to hold it through three early cautions.  When the yellow flew on lap 10, Johnathon Logue had moved from sixth starting to third and on the restart made the move into second and began to hound leader McBirnie. His persistence paid off a handful of laps later when he made the pass at the flagstand to take over the top spot. He would then keep it the rest of the way to the checkers and the win.  Cory Pestotnik came home in second place and McBirnie finished third. McBirnie is the 2019 track champion. Hard working Ward rewarded with IMCA Super Nationals Modified championship

BOONE, Iowa (Sept. 9, 2023) – Tim Ward’s run to the Modified championship at the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s was even more spectacular than the fireworks displays that preceded and followed it. The Arizona native and Iowa transplant led the last half of Saturday’s 40-lap finale at Boone Speedway, ultimately outdistancing 2021 champion Cody Laney to earn his first title and $10,000. The 41st annual Super Nationals brought a record 1,017 cars to Boone, 17 more than the previous mark set just last September. “You have to work so hard to make the show, let alone win the thing,” said Ward, who’d begun his week at Iowa’s Action Track with the checkers in the Wild Rose Casino Double Down Prelude. “Two years ago I ran second to Cody and I was probably the grumpiest guy in the pits.
