
Abelson repeats at Raceway Park

(Aug. 9) – With the track illuminated by lightning all around, Chris Abelson raced to his second straight Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified victory Sunday at Raceway Park. After being penalized for a restart infraction early in the race, Abelson charged from the rear of the field to the front of the pack with only a handful of laps remaining. Chasing Abelson to the checkers were Jim Thies, Ricky Stephan and Sean Barragan. Eighty-two year old Don Tank became one of a handful of drivers to win a sanctioned IMCA feature over the age of eighty when the first and second place Mach-1 Sport Compacts under the flag failed post race inspection. The win also drew Tank into the middle of the points championship race with only three weeks remaining.
