Mighty Axe IMCA Modified wins go to Martini, Kendall

BRAINERD, Minn. (Aug. 26-27) – Eric Martini’s efforts to win the Mighty Axe Nationals took five years while Billy Kendall needed just seven minutes to race his way to the top step of the Modified podium at North Central Speedway. Martini topped Friday’s Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified headliner at Brainerd and earned $1,000, Kendall’s Saturday checkers were good for $1,200 and their wins landed both drivers on the 2017 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. Martini gained the Friday lead on the fifth of 25 laps, passing Erick Thiesse on the bottom and josh Beaulieu on the top. Oklahoma driver is wishing for sooner start to Super Nationals

HENNESSEY, Okla. – Social media has helped Hesston Shaw follow who’s won what at the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s for the past two years. He hopes to give his Facebook friends plenty to talk about this September. The Hennessey, Okla., driver makes his first trip to Boone Speedway to experience the motorsports event everybody’s been telling him about since he started racing an IMCA Sunoco Stock Car two years ago. “When I moved up to the Stock Cars, I ordered a new Jet from Johnny Saathoff and everybody was talking about Super Nationals,” said Shaw. “The last two years I’ve kept up with it on Facebook. Super Nationals race of champions events bring bragging rights

BOONE, Iowa – A season’s worth of bragging rights will be on the line Saturday, Sept. 10, when race of champions winners take their turn on stage at the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s. The winner of the 28th annual Harris Auto Racing Modified Race of Champions earns $1,000 while $500 is the top prize in the 16th annual Sunoco Race Fuels Race of Champions for Stock Cars. Both the BSB Manufacturing Race of Champions for Northern SportMods and Stephenville Starter Race of Champions for Hobby Stocks pay $300 to win. Those events will be held for the seventh time. SportMod and Hobby Stock ROC qualifying will be Tuesday, Sept. 6. Modified and Stock Car ROC qualifying is Friday, Sept. 9. Winebarger first in Fast Friday feature

(Aug. 26) – Friday saw a full house at Cottage Grove Speedway as the ¼-mile clay oval hosted the final Fast Friday of 2016 and all fans through the front gate got in for free. Eric Ashley was quick out of the box in the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified main event. Ashley paced the field until around lap 16 when he was passed for the lead. The driver to make it around him was Collen Winebarger. Winebarger led the rest of the way to score his fifth win of 2016 at CGS. Ashley was a second followed by John Campos in third. Craig Hanson was fourth while finishing fifth was Jeff Lovell.

Osborn leads at Lexington

By Kelly Ninas LEXINGTON, Neb. (Aug. 28) – Colton Osborn got the best of his Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified foes on season championship night Sunday at Lexington Raceway. Osborn and Anthony Roth were in a see-saw battle during the early laps. Osborn was able to gain a little breathing room and never looked back to earn the main event victory. Roth was the runner-up while Scott Smith ended in third. Cole Egge finally punched through for a feature win in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod division. Egge has led the most laps in numerous features this season but it was on the final night of competition that that young gun was able to lead all of the circuits to capture his first win in the division after starting on the outside of the first row. Williamson is $1,000 winner at Willamette

The opening laps of Saturday’s main event were pretty competitive but once Williamson got to the front he was remained there unchallenged. The victory landed him on the ballot for the 2017 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. Schram Brothers Excavating ponied up the extra purse money.

LaCrosse is king of the ring at Oshkosh

OSHKOSH, Wis. (Aug. 26) – Benji LaCrosse clinched King of the Ring honors with his Friday Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified feature win at Oshkosh SpeedZone Raceway. The third leg of King of the Ring saw Marcus Yarie and LaCrosse tied for the series lead. Both won their heat races, and started the main event in row two. It was LaCrosse who made the early move and took the lead after the opening lap with Dan Roedl, Yarie, Jeremy Christians, Tim Robbins and Brian Drexler behind. LaCrosse hooked midway up the track and Roedl was running the outside line. The rest of the field was bunched two and three-wide behind. Yarie moved up to second on lap four and was just behind the leader. A lone caution appeared on lap nine with LaCrosse and Yarie still leading the way. Roedl was holding third while Tim Lemirande was the quickest car in the field having moved from his 16th starting spot into fourth for the restart. Super Nationals entries near 800; early registration deadline now Friday

VINTON, Iowa (Aug. 31) – With early entry numbers approaching an amazing 800, the pre-registration deadline for the upcoming IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s has been extended to noon CST on Friday, Sept. 2. The 785 entries already in hand are 160 ahead of last year’s pace and include 256 Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds, 167 IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, 106 IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks, 163 Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods, 36 Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center Southern SportMods, 49 Mach-1 Sport Compacts and eight IMCA Late Models. Sprint Nationals set for Sept. 1-4 run at Eagle Raceway

EAGLE, Neb. (Aug. 31) – All roads lead to Eagle Raceway during the upcoming holiday weekend for the biggest IMCA EMI RaceSaver Sprint Car event of the season. The fourth annual Sprint Nationals run Friday, Sept. 1 through Sunday, Sept. 4 at Eagle, with a top prize of as much as $5,000 going to the winner of Sunday’s main event. BOONE, Iowa – One-way radios will be mandatory for all drivers in all divisions competing at the Sept. 5-10 IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s. Numerous one-way devices, such as the Nitro-Bee, are legal for use at Super Nationals; specific information on those devices and channels is to be announced. If they do not already own such a device, drivers will be able to purchase one on Manufacturers’ Row during the week.
