Five IMCA divisions run at Salina Speedway’s Sept. 28, 29 Mid-America Clash

SALINA, Kan. – A pair of $1,500 to win, Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying features for IMCA Modifieds headline Salina Speedway’s Friday and Saturday, Sept. 28 and 29 Mid-America Clash. A minimum of $150 will be paid to start. Both cards also feature IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars in $1,000 to win, minimum $100 to start features while Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks both race for $750 to win. Start money is $75 for the SportMods and $60 for the Hobbies. Mach-1 Sport Compacts race for $300 to win and $35 to start on Saturday. Tow money is $50 for the Modifieds, $40 for Stock Cars and Northern SportMods, and $35 for Hobby Stocks and Sport Compacts. Gustin motors to Marshalltown World Nationals win

By Joyce Eisele MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (Sept. 14-15) – Richie Gustin took the lead at the drop of the green and 50 laps later took home the biggest share of green from Marshalltown Speedway’s 12th annual World Nationals. Gustin outran Jordan Grabouski for Saturday’s $10,000 IMCA Modified payday. The outside pole starter was fast from the onset, getting the lead back after Grabouski enjoyed a brief stay at the front of the field, and then pulling away after the final restart with two laps to go. Already on the ballot for the 2019 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational, Gustin got the victory ahead of Grabouski, Cayden Carter, Tim Ward and former World Nationals winner Benji LaCrosse. Terry Phillips, who’d won ahead of Gustin at last year’s World Nationals, was sixth. ROLLA, Kan. – Funeral services for Gene Link, 69, an integral part of a southwest Kansas IMCA race team, will be Saturday, Sept. 29 at 11 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Rolla. Beckendorf takes Iron Cup crown, Moore is night two IMCA Modified winner

JEFFERSON, S.D. (Sept. 14-15) – Gold and silver place finishes made Brandon Beckendorf the IMCA Modified champion at Park Jefferson Speedway’s fifth annual J&J Fitting Iron Cup Championship Night presented by I State Truck Centers. Beckendorf used multiple grooves to race from his 10th starting spot and win the Friday night feature, and $1,000. Already on the 2019 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot, he took the checkers ahead of Jim Thies and Bob Moore. Moore battled back to regain the lead from Beckendorf in winning the Saturday feature, earning $1,000 and the All-Star ballot berth. Third was Sean Barragan. Also scoring $1,000 wins on night two were Dusty Ballenger in the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars and Elijah Zevenbergen in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars. Ward puts check next to Great Lakes Nationals on IMCA Modified to-win list

CRYSTAL, Mich. (Sept. 16) – The ninth time was a charm Sunday for A.J. Ward. Ward won the Great Lakes Nationals in his career ninth start at Crystal Motor Speedway’s season-ending special for IMCA Modifieds. The victory was accompanied by a check for $3,000 and a very tall trophy. “I knew we were good at the end but I didn’t know if anyone behind me was saving their tires,” Ward said, after checking the last big IMCA Modified special in Michigan off his must-win list. “We’ve been trying to win this race for a long time. It feels good to finally be able to do it.” Brenten DeYoung ended the 50-lapper in second and five-time Great Lakes Nationals king Myron DeYoung was third. Soderberg Sprint Memorial checkers fly for Blurton

(Sept. 15) – Zach Blurton captured his second career Jerry Soderberg Memorial Championship event win atop the 3/8-mile Dodge City Raceway Park by wiring the field in Saturday night’s 25-lap DCRP Sprint Cars vs. United Rebel Sprint Series feature event. DAVENPORT, Iowa (Sept. 18) – The final event of the 32nd annual Deery Brothers Summer Series gets top billing at Friday’s Governor’s Cup Iowa State Championship at Davenport Speedway.
