RPM hosts IMCA Hughes Sunflower Classic this weekend

HAYS, Kan. (Oct. 5) – After finding a little line, Daniel Gottschalk took the big check at RPM Speedway’s Fall Nationals. A caution late in the 40-lapper helped open the door as Gottschalk topped the $5,000 Saturday night main event. “I didn’t know if I had a chance midway through but I found a little line and made it work,” said Gottschalk, who passed Tanner Black and Cody Laney for the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying victory. “I don’t get real emotional but that was probably the most excited I’ve ever been after taking the checkered flag.” Once in front, he pulled away on the white flag circuit and took the win half a se­cond ahead of Black, who’d raced his way up from 14th starting. HAYS, Kan. (May 29) – He’s enjoyed his share of success and then some at Hays in an IMCA Modified, but Jordan Grabouski wasn’t sure about his chances when taking the green flag in Thurs­day’s IMCA Sunoco Stock Car Shootout feature at RPM Speed­way. After the 40-lapper, he wasn’t sure where to best display the cool trophy.  Grabouski worked his way up from ninth starting, drove between Mike Nichols and Kyle Pfeifer to take the lead before midway, and stayed in front to the $5,000 checkers at the inaugural event, presented by First Class Chassis. “I didn’t think we had a shot, from where we started and with so many good cars starting ahead of us,” admitted Grabouski. “But my car was lights out. By Sheldon Wickwar HAYS, Kan. (May 25, 2024) – Friesen Performance IMCA Modified win number one of the season for Kyle Rohleder came Saturday night at RPM Speedway. The 2022 track champion at Hays got the lead on just the second circuit and held off a bevy of challengers before collecting his career 65th checkers in the class. Their 20-lap feature had started with a front row of Trevor Geist and Don Geist. Trevor gained the early advantage but quickly Rohleder settled into second place and took the lead on lap two. By lap four, Dylan Sherfick found third place and a lap later got by Trevor Geist for second. Jeremy Frenier got to third just before a caution came out. Sherfick and Rohleder raced side-by-side for the lead at halfway. Another caution came after Rohleder had again solidified the lead once but he slammed the door shut the last five times around the oval, winning in front of Sherfick and Daniel Gottschalk.
