$10 admission special this Saturday at Cottage Grove 

By Ben Deathrage COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. – After a grand slam opening night to mark the 60th race season on April 9, Cottage Grove Speedway looks forward to its next event this Saturday, April 16.  The histori­cal ¼-mile clay oval will offer a special $10 grandstand admission for fans ages 13 and up. Classes in action include the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods, Clark Printing Extreme Sprints and Quality RV Repair Hornets. The event will be the first time to see the Clark Printing Extreme Sprints and IMCA SportMods in action as the other two divisions participated in last week’s action. Collen Winebarger opened up his winning account in the IMCA Modifieds while K.C. Scott got the job done in Quality RV Repair Hornet competition. Pit gates open at 1 p.m., the front gates open at 4 p.m. and racing starts at 6:30 p.m.

Sabine sets six Saturday shows for IMCA Sprints

MANY, La. – Sabine Motor Speedway will crown the first-ever IMCA EMI RaceSaver Sprint Car track champion in Louisiana this season. Six race dates are scheduled in 2016 for the winged division on the quarter-mile clay oval at Many. Koty Adams was the opening night winner on March 19. Sabine had previously hosted RaceSaver tour events, most recently the Louisiana Bayou Sprint Series. “Our fans like Sprint Cars and a couple drivers talked to me and asked if I would be interested in getting an IMCA sanction,” promoter William Isgitt said. “I thought it would be good for them and for me. The division is economical. We had a driver come from the Houston area to race with us on opening night.” The sanctioned division returns to Saturday race programs on April 9, May 7, June 25, July 23 and Aug. 20. Cottage Grove opener is Saturday, first 60 fans get in free 

By Ben Deatherage COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. ­– Saturday, April 9 will kick off the 2016 season for Cottage Grove Speed­way. This year marks the 60th year of action at the historic ¼-mile clay oval and a special promotion will be offered for fans. The first 60 people in line when the front gates open at 4 p.m. will get into the race for free. In addition to Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds, classes in action include 360 sprints, late models, street stocks and Quality RV hornets. “It is so awesome that Cottage Grove Speedway can say they’ve had racing here for the last 60 years,” commented CGS Promoter Heather Boyce. “We’re expecting a very good car count with cars coming from all over the area and out of state. CSP returns to action this Saturday 

By Lonnie Wheatley PEORIA, Ariz. – The battles continue at Canyon Speedway Park on Saturday night, April 2 with Arizona Differential IMCA Modifieds headlining a full card of racing action atop the 1/3-mile clay oval. Along with the IMCA Modifieds, Saturday’s tilt that goes green at 7 p.m. will also feature the Allscapes IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars vs. SCRA Stock Cars and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks vs. Renegades. The CSP points race for the IMCA Modifieds is a tight one in the early going with only eight points sepa­rating the top five thus far. Zack Madrid holds a scant three-point edge over Mike Strobl go­ing into Saturday’s action with Bubba Stafford, Steve Stultz and Guy Norton among the early top five. Arlington Raceway celebrates 35 years of slingin’ dirt

MORTON, Minn. (March 19) ­– More than 300 people attended Saturday’s 2015 Arlington Raceway awards banquet, held at the Jackpot Junction Casino Hotel in Morton. Track champions honored included: Coors Light IMCA Sport Compacts, Nate Coopman of Mankato; Eckblad Trucking IMCA Hobby Stock, Cory Probst of Worthington; Unhinged Pizza IMCA Northern SportMod, Matthew Looft of Swea City, Iowa; B&B Racing Chassis IMCA Stock Car, Dan Mackenthun of Hamburg; 95.7 the Rock Station IMCA Sprint Car, Michael Stien of Ceylon; and the New Country MN 93 IMCA Modified, Clint Hatlestad of Glencoe. 2016 national de­cal placement program announced for IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars

VINTON, Iowa – The final portion of IMCA’s 2016 national decal program have been announced, with information released for the Stock Car division. Dirt Defender has signed on as part of that program, which also includes EngineQuest – title sponsor for both Northern and Southern regions – Speedway Motors, Intercomp, Holley, MSD, Sunoco and Fast Shafts. “The Stock Car division was the last to be announced because we wanted to confirm a couple of agreements and make sure we got Dirt Defender on board,” IMCA Marketing Director Kevin Yoder said. “Now that we have those solidified we’ll get the decals distributed before the majority of our tracks open weekly.” Drivers must provide proof of decal placement to become eligible for national and regional point fund shares. Car photos can be mailed to Yoder at the IMCA home office or emailed to kyoder@imca.com. Decal packets, which also include applicable contingency sign-up forms, are being mailed beginning this month to drivers who have purchased 2016 licenses. Deadline for submitting car photos and contingency forms is Aug. 1.

IMCA Late Models added to six Friday shows at Marshalltown

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (Feb. 26) – The Friday night lights shine on IMCA Late Models six times this sea­son at Marshalltown Speedway. Late Models tackle the ¼-mile dirt oval on June 10, July 1 and Aug. 5, 12, 19 and 26 in $600 to win events. “When we brought the Late Models back for three events last year, the interest level and the enthusi­asm were crazy,” promoter Toby Kruse said. “We’re trying to give fans more of what they want by bringing them back this season.” A track champion will be crowned and IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National and All­star Performance State points awarded. Northern SportMods make splash at Central AZ, division’s Arizona Speedway debut set for March

CASA GRANDE, Ariz. – After a successful weekend debut for the division at Central Arizona Speedway, promoter Jonah Trussel is looking for more of the same when Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods race for the first time at Arizona Speedway next month. A high of 20 and an average of 18 IMCA-sanctioned Northern SportMods ran during the Feb. 19-21 Snowbird Classic at Casa Grande. Opening night at Apache Junction will be March 19. Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds also run at both venues. “We have had an X-mod division for a long time and told drivers in that class two years ago that we’d be switching to Northern SportMods this season. Heartland Park Topeka releases 2016 schedule 

TOPEKA, Kan. ­– It was just a few weeks ago that Heartland Park Topeka officials named John and Larry Lowrey as co-promoters of the dirt track.  This week the announcements keep coming for 2016. “We are very excited about getting back to racing at Heartland Park Topeka on the dirt track,” said Larry Lowrey, “Bringing IMCA into the mix is really going to jazz things up another notch.” The core of the 2016 season will revolve around the weekly race program. New promotional era begins at Skyline Raceway Park

CORTLAND, N.Y. ­­– One era has ended and another begun at Skyline Raceway Park. Former track champion Dean Catlin and his wife Donna have purchased the facility from Frank and Audrey Payne, who had operated the 3/8-mile clay oval for 28 years. Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds return to Saturday night programs beginning April 23. The IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing point season at Cortland runs through Turbo Blue championship night on Sept. 17. The former Skyline Raceway has been IMCA sanctioned longer than any other track in New York and will crown a Modified champion for the 20th consecutive season in 2016. “This division is a lot different than most of the other cars around here,” Catlin noted. “They run on those narrow Hoosier tires and there’s a lot of talent needed to hook them up.
