Nezworski and Becerra score “Drive For 5” qualifying wins at Lee County

by Brian Neal DONNELLSON, Iowa (June 17, 2022) – The action on track Friday night at Lee County Speedway was just as hot as the temperatures as the speedway hosted round three of the Drive for 5 for IMCA Sunoco Late Models and Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds, and the Drive for 3 for Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods. The first feature to take to the track was the 15-lap Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compact feature, with Josh Barnes taking the lead late to drive to his second win in a row. Brandon Reu, Chandler Fullenkamp, Kimberly Abbott and Luke Fraise completed the top five. Up next was the 18-lap IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature, with Chris Wibbell and Josh Foster making up the front row after Peter Stodgel elected to go to the rear. Great racing, memories fill Hall of Fame Night at Independence

by Jeremy Fox INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (June 18, 2022) – Saturday Night Independence Motor Speedway inducted the 2022 Hall of Fame class, including Rick Wendling, Darin Burco and Duane Van Deest for drivers. Special contributors inducted were Burco and Jerry Blue. Burco was the first to be inducted as a driver and contributor. Following a hall of fame meet-and-greet and autograph session, over 100 race teams signed in to tame the 3/8 mile dirt oval on the Buchanan County Fairgrounds. The first feature of the night was the 15 lap Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMod event. Robert Patava grabbed the top spot early, however Kip Siems stole the lead away from Patava on an early restart, Siems led until he slipped up on lap nine allowing Cole Suckow to take over the race lead. Suckow led until lap 13 when Tony Olson took advantage of Suckow leaving the door open. Olson held off Suckow and Siems to take his 35th career win in Independence, his fourth straight win at Indee. Morgan gets NY-Penn Series redemption at Bloomsburg

by Evan Canfield BLOOMSBURG, Pa. (June 19, 2022) – In the racing world, most drivers have that one big race that got away. For NY-Penn IMCA Modified Series driver Rodney Morgan, that race was Bloomsburg Fair Raceway in 2021. After leading much of that event, invader David Stremme slipped by Morgan late to take the win. Coming back to Bloomsburg on June 19th, Morgan was determined to get back the one he missed out on a year ago. Series points leader Keith Jack Lamphere set the pace for the beginning of the 25 lap feature, with Ray McClure starting to his outside. Once the green flag waved, Lamphere took the race lead. McClure faded back as Rodney Morgan slid up to second, bringing David Stremme and Brad Sites along with him. The caution waved on lap four as Shawn Bruce found the turn one wall. Olson drives borrowed car to victory at Benton County Speedway

VINTON, Iowa (June 19, 2022) – One driver didn’t think he’d be able to race while another wasn’t sure he’d even make it to the track. Both ended up in victory lane in an unlikely turn of events Sunday at Benton County Speedway. After suffering extensive damage to his own ride Saturday night, Kyle Olson wasn’t planning on racing Sunday. That all changed when Brandon Tharp asked him to drive his car. Tharp, who underwent an emergency appendectomy early Sunday morning and was sidelined for the evening, offered his ride to Olson for Sunday’s racing program at The Bullring. By night’s end, both drivers were posing for victory lane photos after Olson raced Tharp’s #B21 to the winner’s circle in the Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods. Kenawell Makes it a Double Weekend with Hagerstown win

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (June 18, 2022) – Stevie Kenawell stared the weekend winning with the Laurel Highlands Sprint Series at Dog Hollow Speedway and then followed it up at the Annual Dad’s Night Out weekend at Hagerstown Speedway by wiring the feature from pole to checkers. The Hagerstown event has been a highlight since the Laurel Highlands Sprint Series, PASS and Virginia Sprint Series got together at Hagerstown a few years ago for the once a year three series race. Kenawell and Dylan Shatzer paced the feature field to green and Kenawell took off with Shatzer in tow. The whole field was dicing for positions in all grooves behind them. Quickly it became a race for second as Kenawell really had the family-owned sprinter dialed in, just a straight arrow lap after lap as Austin Reed made his way to second with Shatzer still third. Current, Roth among winners at Maquoketa Speedway

MAQUOKETA, Iowa (June 18, 2022) – Saturday, June 18th provided perfect weather for the racing action at Maquoketa Speedway. The Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds 20-lap feature win went to fourth row outside starter Tim Current. Current wheeled his #12T to the front quickly taking the lead from Steve Johnson on lap number four. Current’s teammate Ryan Duhme ran second on Saturday night ahead of Travis Denning. A strong field of Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods ran a caution-free 15 lap main event on Saturday night. Jason Roth took first place honors by racing to the win ahead of Matt Mayo from Bakersfield, California. Front row starter Dakota Cole crossed under the checkers in third. The IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars provided a very entertaining feature. Joe Zrostlik led the feature until a late race caution set up a two lap dash to the finish. Brown gets Modified win, Spaw stays hot at CJ Speedway

by Jerry Mackey COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa (June 17) – Jarrett Brown scored the feature win in the Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds Friday night at CJ Speedway. Brown chased down race leader Kurt Kile making the pass at the midway point of the feature and went to score the win ahead of Matt Werner and Kile. Johnny Spaw has made three visits to CJ Speedway in 2022 and has scored the win every time he has raced in the very tough IMCA Sunoco Stock Car class. Spaw took the lead early from Kenny O’Donnell and went on to score an impressive win ahead of Matt Picray, who advanced from the third row and scored his best finish of the season. The Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods saw 24 drivers take the initial green flag. The main event belonged to Logan Anderson who started up front due to the redraw lineup. Johnson sprints to Arlington checkers

ARLINGTON, Minn. (June 11, 2022) – Saturday’s IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car feature at Arlington Raceway went flag to flag with Bill Johnson leading from his pole position and finding himself the winner after having motor troubles the first night of the season which sidelined him for a few weeks. Mike Stien, who started ninth, moved through the field and took second ahead of Brandon Buysse. Cory Probst is on a mission this year as he has won every IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock feature thus far at Arlington. He started 10th and by lap three he was in third. Scott Porter had the early lead but later drove into the pit with troubles. Probst and Cory Black then battled for the lead and a caution came out when the 16R spun out. Elston, Zogg top IMCA Drive For 5 features at Lee County

By Brian Neal DONNELLSON, Iowa (June 10, 2022) – Lee County Speedway got the best of Mother Nature and Tommy Elston and Chris Zogg got the best of their round two Drive For 5 foes Friday at Lee County Speedway. Elston pocketed $1,000 for his Iowa Corn Growers Association IMCA Sunoco Late Model victory, while Friesen Performance IMCA Modified winner Zogg took home a grand and became eligible to qualify for the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. Denny Woodworth and C.J. Horn drew the front row for the Late Model headliner. Just when Woodworth started to put some distance on the battles going on behind him, the first and only caution of the race appeared on lap five. Vanover holds off Woken for IMCA Stock Car Crown triumph at Dawson County

By Anthony Ainslie LEXINGTON, Neb. (June 12, 2022) – Kyle Vanover became the latest winner on the inaugural IMCA Sunoco Stock Car Crown Summer Series after the tour headed out west. The third round for the series made the Sunday trip to the Sandhills where Lexington, Neb.’s Dawson County Raceway played host. A stout field of 40 stock cars from Nebraska, Iowa and Kansas packed the pit area with the track’s four other IMCA weekly racing classes also in action. The $2,000 to win main event saw Robert Leonard lead the 21-car field down to the green flag. His lead was short lived as Kyle Vanover jumped from his outside front row starting spot to lead. Vanover led while Casey Woken was right behind in second followed closely by third-running Jeff Ware. Those three would be the top three for the majority of the race.
